Těšín Theatre

Český Těšín District (Czech: okres Český Těšín, Polish: powiat Czeski Cieszyn) was a district (okres) of Czechoslovakia existing between 1920–1938 and 1945–1960. Its administrative centre was the town of Český Těšín. The district was formed after the division of Cieszyn Silesia on 28 July 1920, which split the town of Teschen/Cieszyn/Těšín into Cieszyn and Český Těšín as well as the preceding Teschen County originally formed in 1850 on the territory of Austrian Silesia. Following the Munich Agreement, in November 1938 together with the Trans-Olza region it was annexed by Poland. The Český Těšín District was administratively transformed to a short-lived Cieszyn Zachodni County and afterwards it was merged with Cieszyn County of Silesian Voivodeship. The area was then annexed by Nazi Germany at the beginning of World War II. After the war it was restored to Czechoslovakia. Český Těšín District ceased to exist as a result of a reform act issued on 9 April 1960 and was succeeded mostly by the Frýdek-Místek District, with some municipalities including Český Těšín transferred to the Karviná District.The territory of the district was in large part inhabited by the Polish minority. Český Těšín District covered the exact southern part of Trans-Olza area and Poles were proportionately more numerous there than in the newly gerrymandered Frýdek-Místek District, which also encompasses the ethnically pure Czech areas west of Trans-Olza.

(Polish: , German: Schibitz) was a village in Karviná District, Moravian-Silesian Region, Czech Republic. It was a separate municipality, but became administratively a part of Český Těšín in 1947. The name is derived from the świba bush, from the cornus genius.

Český Těšín (Czech: [ˈtʃɛskiː ˈcɛʃiːn] ; Polish: Czeski Cieszyn; German: Tschechisch-Teschen) is a town in Karviná District in the Moravian-Silesian Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 23,000 inhabitants. Český Těšín lies on the west bank of the Olza river, in the heart of the historical region of Cieszyn Silesia. Until the 1920 division of the region between Poland and Czechoslovakia it was just a western suburb of the town of Teschen, which after the division fell to Poland as Cieszyn. The combined population of the Czech and Polish parts of the town is around 57,000 (23,500 in Český Těšín, 33,500 in Cieszyn). The historic centre in Český Těšín is well preserved and is protected by law as an urban monument zone.

The Castle Hill Park is a romantic park created on the initiative of Carl Habsburg in the 1840s on the Castle Hill in Cieszyn, Poland.

Cieszyn Silesia, Těšín Silesia or Teschen Silesia (Polish: Śląsk Cieszyński [ˈɕlɔ̃sk tɕɛˈʂɨj̃skʲi] ; Czech: Těšínské Slezsko [ˈcɛʃiːnskɛː ˈslɛsko] or Těšínsko [ˈcɛʃiːnsko] ; German: Teschener Schlesien or Olsagebiet) is a historical region in south-eastern Silesia, centered on the towns of Cieszyn and Český Těšín and bisected by the Olza River. Since 1920 it has been divided between Poland and Czechoslovakia, and later the Czech Republic. It covers an area of about 2,280 square kilometres (880 sq mi) and has about 810,000 inhabitants, of which 1,002 square kilometres (387 sq mi) (44%) is in Poland, while 1,280 square kilometres (494 sq mi) (56%) is in the Czech Republic. The historical boundaries of the region are roughly the same as those of the former independent Duchy of Cieszyn. Currently, over half of Cieszyn Silesia forms one of the euroregions, the Cieszyn Silesia Euroregion, with the rest of it belonging to Euroregion Beskydy.

Piast tower in Cieszyn – a defence tower of the former castle of the dukes of Cieszyn on Castle Hill in Cieszyn, Poland one of the four that once existed there and the only one that survived. The tower is available for visitors (admission tickets). The tower offers a panoramic view of Cieszyn and Czech Cieszyn on the both banks of Olza river. Visibility permitting, one can admire an interesting panorama of Silesian Beskids and Moravian-Silesian Beskids.

The Cieszyn Brewery is a historic brewery in Poland and belongs to the Felix Investments. It is the longest continuously operating brewery in Poland. The brewery is located in the border town of Cieszyn, on the Castle Hill in the Classicist palace.

Habsburg Hunting Palace is a Classicist palace built in 1838–1840 in Cieszyn, Poland. It has been designed by Viennese architect Joseph Kornhäusel, constructed on the earthwork of the lower castle.

Venice of Cieszyn (Polish: Cieszyńska Wenecja) is a part of the Old Town in Cieszyn, Poland. It is a section of contemporary Przykopa Street (formerly Nad Młynówką) which comprises buildings from the 18th-19th century, many of them with bridges over the course of Młynówka (an artificial canal). In the past the buildings over Młynówka belonged to craftsmen: tanners, weavers, clothiers, leather-dressers and smiths, who needed constant access to water for their craft. It is the area between the intersection of Przykopa Street and Jan Łyska Avenue and the corner of Przykopa and Schodowa streets.

The Duchy of Teschen (German: Herzogtum Teschen), also Duchy of Cieszyn (Polish: Księstwo Cieszyńskie) or Duchy of Těšín (Czech: Těšínské knížectví), was one of the Duchies of Silesia centered on Cieszyn (Teschen) in Upper Silesia. It was split off the Silesian Duchy of Opole and Racibórz in 1281 during the feudal division of Poland and was ruled by Silesian dukes of the Piast dynasty from 1290 until the line became extinct with the death of Duchess Elizabeth Lucretia in 1653.The ducal lands initially comprised former Lesser Polish territories east of the Biała River, which in about 1315 again split off as the Polish Duchy of Oświęcim, while the remaining duchy became a fiefdom of the Bohemian kings in 1327 and was incorporated into the Lands of the Bohemian Crown in 1348. While the bulk of Silesia was conquered by the Prussian king Frederick the Great in the Silesian Wars of 1740–1763, Teschen together with the duchies of Troppau (Opava), Krnov and Nysa remained with the Habsburg monarchy and merged into the Austrian Silesia crown land in 1849. The so-called "commander line" of the Habsburg-Lorraine dynasty, a cadet branch descending from Archduke Charles, Duke of Teschen, held the title "Duke of Teschen" until 1918.

Saint George's Church is a church from the turn of the 14th/15th century, located in Cieszyn at Liburnia 1 street. Initially it was a chapel serving a local asylum and later a hospital church.

Adam Mickiewicz Theatre (Polish: Teatr im. Adama Mickiewicza) is a theatre located at the Theatre Square in the Old City in Cieszyn, Poland.
