Central School, also known as Bessemer City Elementary School, is a historic school complex located at Bessemer City, Gaston County, North Carolina. The main school building was built about 1929, and is a two-story, "U"-plan brick building with Collegiate Gothic detailing. It was rebuilt following a fire in 1942. Adjacent to the school is the Rustic Revival style, rough cut stone gymnasium built in 1933 with funds provided by the Works Progress Administration. Other contributing buildings are the Home Economics Building (c. 1938-1939), Classroom Building (c. 1953), and Storage Shed (c. 1953).It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2008.

Lithium Corporation of America was a mining company which mined lithium-bearing spodumene and pegmatite ores near Bessemer City, Gaston County, North Carolina, United States and in the Black Hills of South Dakota.In 1954, economist Armen Alchian used sudden increases in the stock price of Lithium Corporation to deduce that the new American h-bomb used lithium in its fusion fuel; this result was one of the first "event studies". In September 1959, Lithium Corporation of America was sued for breach of contract by a Canadian producer of lithium concentrate, Quebec Lithium Corporation, from which it had been buying lithium concentrate.In 1985, Lithium Corporation of America was acquired by FMC Corporation, formerly known as Food Machinery and Chemical Corporation. At the time it was acquired, the company was the world's largest producer of lithium. FMC's lithium operations were known as FMC Lithium. In 2019 FMC completed the spin-off of its lithium operations as a new company, Livent Corporation.

Bessemer City is a small suburban city in Gaston County, North Carolina, United States. The population is 5,340 (as of the 2010 census). The city is approximately 6 miles (10 km) northwest of Gastonia and 25 miles (40 km) west of Charlotte. It was settled in 1756 and founded in 1893.

It encompasses 23 contributing buildings and 10 contributing structures in Bessemer City's central business district. The buildings were built between after 1896, and include one- and two-story commercial buildings and two large, sprawling textile mill complexes. Notable buildings include: Whetstone Cotton Mills-Huss Manufacturing Company-Algodon Manufacturing Division of Pyramid Mills (1903, 1909, c. 1960) Southern Cotton Mills-Osage Manufacturing Company (1895, 1896, c. 1905, c. 1935, c. 1960) Gamble Hardware (c. 1945) Central Drug Store (1927, 1960s) Winn-Dixie Grocery (c. 1926) Shulman's Department Store (c. 1920; c. 1940; c. 1960) Kincaid Service Station and Pontiac Dealership (1932, c. 1937, c. 1960).It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2014.

Owned by Beasley Broadcast Group, WBAV's studios and offices are on South Boulevard in Charlotte's South End. In morning drive time, it carries the syndicated Steve Harvey Morning Show. WBAV-FM has an effective radiated power (ERP) of 100,000 watts, the maximum for most American FM stations. The transmitter is on Crowder's Mountain, along McSwain Groves Road in Gastonia (its city of license). The station broadcasts using HD Radio technology. It carries sports from Fox Sports Radio on its HD-2 subchannel It carries all-podcasts on its HD-3 subchannel.

Crowders Mountain State Park is a 5,217-acre (21.11 km2) North Carolina state park in Gaston County, North Carolina in the United States. It is near Kings Mountain, North Carolina and on the outskirts of Gastonia, North Carolina, it includes the peaks of Crowder's Mountain and The Pinnacle. Crowders Mountain is named for Crowders Creek which originates near its base. The cliffs are a popular destination for rock climbers.

Crowders Mountain is one of two main peaks within Crowders Mountain State Park, the other peak being The Pinnacle. The park is located in the western Piedmont of North Carolina between the cities of Kings Mountain and Gastonia or about 25 miles (40 km) west of Charlotte. Crowders Mountain abruptly rises nearly 800 feet (240 m) above the surrounding terrain, and has an elevation of 1,625 feet (495 m) above sea level. The monadnock is named for Crowders Creek, which originates near its base. The original namesake of Crowders Creek is unknown, but mostly likely lived farther south along Crowders Creek. Crowders Mountain and The Pinnacle, located to the southwest, once served as markers to separate the hunting grounds of the Catawba and Cherokee peoples. In the early 1970s a mining company began doing exploratory sampling of areas along what is now the Backside Trail with the intent of purchasing the minerals rights to excavate the mountain for kyanite, barite, and iron. This led local concerned citizens, educational institutions, and local governments to join together and convince state government pursue the creation of a state park in order to protect the area. In 1973 the State of North Carolina created Crowders Mountain State Park. It opened to the public in 1974. Crowders Mountain proper was added to the new park in 1978. The Pinnacle was added in 1987. In the year 2000, 2000+ acres were purchased. This purchase brought the entire ridge line of Kings Mountain into the park and took park boundaries to the North Carolina/South Carolina state line. Both monadnocks present sheer rock cliffs which are 100–150 feet (30–46 m) in height. The cliffs of Crowders Mountain are popular among rock climbers. Rock climbing is no longer permitted on The Pinnacle. Hiking trails lead to both summits, from which it is possible to view the skyscrapers of nearby Charlotte, North Carolina, on a clear day.

Webb Street School is a public school in the Gaston County Schools school district and is located in Gastonia, North Carolina, United States. Webb Street serves students ages 5–22 with intellectual disabilities. The school's instructional program follows the North Carolina Standard Course of Study. In addition, students are instructed within Gaston County through the Community Based Training program. The current principal is Kelli Howe.

Central School Historic District is a national historic district located at Kings Mountain, Cleveland County, North Carolina. It encompasses 52 contributing buildings and 4 contributing structures in a residential section of Kings Mountain. The houses date between about 1870 and 1950, and include representative examples of the Second Empire and Queen Anne architectural styles. Notable nonresidential buildings are the Second Southern Railway Depot (1925), St. Matthew's Lutheran Church (1921, 1950), First Presbyterian Church (1936), and Central·High School (1933).It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001.

The Pinnacle, is one of the two main peaks located within Crowders Mountain State Park. The other peak is Crowders Mountain. The park is located in the western Piedmont of North Carolina between the cities of Kings Mountain and Gastonia.

Jacob S. Mauney Memorial Library and Teacher's Home, also known as the Mauney Memorial Library and Dr. Jacob George Van Buren Hord House, is a historic home and library located at Kings Mountain, Cleveland County, North Carolina. It was built in 1923 as a private dwelling and donated to the city of Kings Mountain in 1947. From 1947 to about 1962–1963, the building also functioned as a teacherage for the Kings Mountain school system. It is a two-story, five-bay, yellow-brick Southern Colonial Revival-style house. The front facade features a two-story, pedimented tetrastyle portico with stucco-finished masonry columns. It has a one-story rear block added in 1987–1988 and the Harris Children's Wing, a two-level addition of 1999–2000.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2014.

The Kings Mountain Historical Museum is a local history museum at 100 East Mountain in Kings Mountain, North Carolina. It is located in the former United States Post Office building, a handsome Colonial Revival structure built in 1940 with funding from a Depression-era works program. The building was used as a post office until 1986. The city acquired the building in 2000, and leased it to the local historical society, which has used it as a museum since.The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2015.
