Sendagaya (千駄ヶ谷) is an area within Shibuya ward, one of the 23 special wards of Tokyo.

The Japan Shogi Association (日本将棋連盟, Nihon Shōgi Renmei), or JSA, is the primary organizing body for professional shogi in Japan. Kita-sando Station (北参道駅, Kita-sandō-eki) is a subway station on the Tokyo Metro Fukutoshin Line in Shibuya, Tokyo, Japan, operated by the Tokyo subway operator Tokyo Metro.

The Embassy of Turkey in Tokyo (Japanese: 駐日トルコ共和国大使館; Turkish: Türkiye'nin Tokyo Büyükelçiliği) is the diplomatic mission of Turkey in Japan. It was established in 1925. The Embassy Building were designed by the famous Japanese Architect Kenzō Tange. Korkut GÜNGEN has been the current Ambassador since 15 March 2021.

The National Noh Theatre (国立能楽堂, Kokuritsu Nōgaku Dō) opened in Sendagaya, Shibuya, Tokyo, Japan in September 1983. The auditorium seats 591 for performances of Noh and Kyōgen, and there is also a rehearsal stage, exhibition area, lecture room, and reference library. In 2007, the National Noh Theatre began to annually present regular programs by female performers.

The Tokyo Metropolitan Indoor Swimming Pool is an aquatics venue located in Tokyo. It hosted the water polo tournament during the 1964 Summer Olympics. It was constructed initially as the swimming venue for the 1958 Asian Games.

Water polo at the 1964 Summer Olympics was held at the Yoyogi National Gymnasium in Shibuya, Tokyo. The gymnasium was built in 1961-1964 as the first indoor pool for Olympic water polo; it also hosted all swimming and diving events and could accommodate over 13,000 people. In the water polo tournament, two teams from each of the four preliminary groups advanced to two semi-finals, and their four winners competed for the medals. The scores from preliminary rounds were taken into account in the semifinals, and the scores from the semifinals were taken into account in the finals.

The Tōgō Shrine (東郷神社 Tōgō-jinja) was established in 1940 and dedicated to Gensui (or 'Marshal-Admiral') the Marquis Tōgō Heihachirō shortly after his death. This shrine was destroyed by the Bombing of Tokyo, but was rebuilt in 1964. It is located in Harajuku, Tokyo, Japan. There, the Marquis Tōgō Heihachirō is celebrated as a shinto kami. A small museum and a bookshop dedicated to the Marquis Tōgō are located within the grounds of the shrine. The shrine is located near the intersection of Takeshita Street and Meiji Avenue and is accessible from Harajuku Station. The physical remains of the Gensui (or Grand Admiral) himself are interred at Tama Cemetery in Tokyo. According to The Telegraph, the Tōgō Shrine took possession in 2005 of Admiral Tōgō's original battle flag raised at the Battle of Tsushima; the flag had been in Britain since 1911.

Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium (東京体育館, Tōkyō Taiikukan) is a sporting complex in Sendagaya, Shibuya, Tokyo, Japan. Built in 1954 for the World Wrestling Championship, it was also used as the venue for gymnastics at the 1964 Summer Olympics, and hosted the table tennis competition at the 2020 Summer Olympics. The gymnasium was rebuilt to a futuristic design created by Pritzker Prize winner Fumihiko Maki from 1986 to 1990. The gymnasium is a one-minute walk from Sendagaya Station on the Chūō-Sōbu Line and Kokuritsu Kyogijo Station on the Toei Oedo Line.

At the 1964 Summer Olympics, fourteen different artistic gymnastics events were contested, eight for men and six for women. All events were held at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium in Tokyo from 18 October through 23 October.The scoring in all the events was the same, as for gymnastics events at the previous Olympics. The six best gymnasts on the apparatus in the team competition (by sum of two scores - for compulsory and optional routine) qualified for that apparatus finals. Each of the women's events was judged by five judges. The highest and lowest marks were dropped and an average of three remaining ones constituted the score. Each of the men's events were judged by four judges. The highest and lowest marks were dropped and an average of two remaining ones constituted the score.
