St. Bernard Projects was a housing project in the city of New Orleans. A subdistrict of the Mid-City District Area, its boundaries as defined by the New Orleans City Planning Commission were: Harrison Avenue to the north, Paris Avenue to the east, Lafreniere Street and Florida Avenue to the south and Bayou St. John to the west.

Pan American Stadium is a 5,000 seat multi-purpose outdoor stadium, located in City Park, in New Orleans, Louisiana. It is used for soccer, American football, lacrosse and rugby. In the wake of the enormous damage inflicted upon the park due to Hurricane Katrina, the Louisiana Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism began to partially subsidize the park's operations.City Park holds the world's largest collection of mature live oak trees, some older than 600 years in age. The park was founded in 1854, making it the 48th oldest park in the country,: 29  and established as the "City Park" in 1891.

The City Park/Pepsi Tennis Center is a tennis facility located in City Park in New Orleans, United States. The facility, built in 2011, serves as the home of the Loyola Wolf Pack and Tulane Green Wave tennis teams.The facility offers 26 lighted courts. It has 16 hard courts and 10 clay courts along with a practice court and a club house. The club house is 3,500 square feet and includes a meeting room, showers and lockers.The tennis center hosts the City Park Grand Slam Tennis Tournament and has hosted the Allstate Sugar Bowl Tennis Tournament.

The neighborhood is named after and dominated by City Park.

The Mother's Day bus crash, also known as the Interstate 610 bus crash, occurred on May 9, 1999, on Interstate 610 (I-610) in New Orleans, Louisiana, when a charter bus carrying 43 passengers veered off the roadway and collided with a dirt embankment. Of the 44 people on the bus (including the driver), there were 22 fatalities in the crash. In the aftermath of the crash, the National Transportation Safety Board launched an extensive investigation into the driver’s medical history and the motorcoach company's oversight. The NTSB ultimately determined that the bus driver had become incapacitated due to a combination of life-threatening medical conditions, including end-stage renal disease and congestive heart failure. The board’s final report was highly critical of the bus company for its failure to ensure the driver met federal medical standards. This disaster led to renewed calls for stricter medical certification processes for commercial drivers. It is the deadliest bus crash in Louisiana history and the fifth-deadliest in United States history.

St. Joseph Academy was an all-girls private high school in New Orleans, Louisiana, sponsored by the Sisters of St. Joseph.

Lake Area New Tech Early College High School was a former high school in Gentilly, New Orleans, Louisiana, United States. The New Beginnings Schools Foundation ran the school. The school was established in July 2011 as a result of a merger between Greater Gentilly High School and Thurgood Marshall Early College High School. The $39 million school building opened in August 2009 as Greater Gentilly High School with capacity for 800 students. It was one of the first built as part of the RSD's $1.8 billion post-Hurricane Katrina facility overhaul. In December 2017, it was announced that the school was closing and would reopen as John F. Kennedy High School on the same campus starting in July 2018.
