Holy Cross School is a Catholic school serving grades pre-K through 12 in New Orleans, Louisiana. It was founded in 1849 by the Congregation of Holy Cross. Holy Cross School was originally named St. Isidore's College and was a boarding and day school. Holy Cross School is located in the Archdiocese of New Orleans.

St. Frances Cabrini Church was a Roman Catholic parish church in New Orleans, Louisiana, from 1963 until 2005, when it was extensively damaged by floodwaters of Hurricane Katrina. The church was designed in the modernist style by New Orleans architectural firm Curtis and Davis. Their design was intended to facilitate parishioners' participation in religious ceremonies. The church building did not re-open after Hurricane Katrina and was demolished in 2007 amid controversy over architectural preservation.

Greater Gentilly High School was a high school in Gentilly, New Orleans, Louisiana, United States. The Recovery School District (RSD) was the administer of the school.The school opened in August 2009. It moved into a $39 million campus with capacity for 800 students; it was one of the first built as part of the RSD's $1.8 billion post-Hurricane Katrina facility overhaul. As of January 2011 the school had about 250 students. Around that time, the University of New Orleans charter school network launched a takeover attempt. Paul Vallas, CEO of the Recovery School District, argued that the takeover was necessary since the school was so small.In July 2011, the school merged with Thurgood Marshall Early College High School to become Lake Area New Tech Early College High School.

Lake Area New Tech Early College High School was a former high school in Gentilly, New Orleans, Louisiana, United States. The New Beginnings Schools Foundation ran the school. The school was established in July 2011 as a result of a merger between Greater Gentilly High School and Thurgood Marshall Early College High School. The $39 million school building opened in August 2009 as Greater Gentilly High School with capacity for 800 students. It was one of the first built as part of the RSD's $1.8 billion post-Hurricane Katrina facility overhaul. In December 2017, it was announced that the school was closing and would reopen as John F. Kennedy High School on the same campus starting in July 2018.

John F. Kennedy High School is a high school located in the Gentilly neighborhood of New Orleans, Louisiana in the United States. It is a charter school under the Orleans Parish School Board (OPSB).

The New Orleans Yacht Club (NOYC) was founded in June 1949 and is dedicated to further the sport of yacht racing, marine safety and seamanship. The club is located at West End's Municipal Yacht Harbor on the south shore of Lake Pontchartrain and is a member of the Gulf Yachting Association since 1953.Since its founding, New Orleans Yacht Club has been home to many regional and national regattas as well as sailing champions. The club annually hosts or co-hosts over 30 regattas on the lake and its membership is actively involved in many regional and national regattas, including hosting Mardi Gras Race Week and the Bastille Day Regatta. The club holds one of the largest Wednesday Night Racing regatta series in the United States with on average 50 boats participating weekly throughout daylight saving time and has an active junior sailing program.

The London Avenue Canal is a drainage canal in New Orleans, Louisiana, used for pumping rain water into Lake Pontchartrain. The canal runs through the 7th Ward of New Orleans from the Gentilly area to the Lakefront. It is one of the three main drainage canals responsible for draining rainwater from the main basin of New Orleans. The London Avenue Canal's flood walls built atop earthen levees breached on both sides during Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

The United States Department of Agriculture Southern Regional Research Center (SRRC) is one of four regional laboratories within the United States Department of Agriculture's Agricultural Research Service. Principal research areas of the SRRC include food safety, global food security, climate change, biofuels, agricultural sustainability, health and nutrition. It furthermore emphasizes improved product quality of natural fibers especially cotton, according to the SRRC's mission statement. The SRRC laboratory is located at 1100 Allen Toussaint Blvd, New Orleans, Louisiana 70124-4305 (Latitude 30.01881, Longitude -90.08952). It has an annual budget of approximately $25 million, employing 70 scientists and 130 other people in laboratory support roles. The SRRC laboratory was established as a result of the Agricultural Adjustment Act of 1938 by the United States Congress. Construction on the laboratory commenced in 1939 at its current 40 acre (162,000 m2) building site, a tract in the northeast corner of City Park on Allen Toussaint Boulevard near Bayou St. John, New Orleans, Louisiana. The laboratory opened in 1941. Research at the laboratory initially emphasized crops in the southern United States that were produced in surplus, especially cotton, sweet potato, and peanuts. The history of the laboratory is documented on-line by the United States Department of Agriculture's Agricultural Research Service. The laboratory was designated a National Historic Chemical Landmark in May 2004. The other regional research centers in the Agricultural Research Service are: the Western Regional Research Center (WRRC) in Albany, California; the National Center for Agricultural Utilization Research (NCAUR) in Peoria, Illinois; and the Eastern Regional Research Center (ERRC) in Wyndmoor, Pennsylvania. Additionally SRRC has had affiliation with field stations. The SRRC laboratory suffered $35 million in damage as a result of Hurricane Katrina. The laboratory was closed for the ensuing year, necessitating relocation of approximately 170 members of its staff. The laboratory restored full operation in August 2007, two years after the storm.

Demourelles Island (French: Île des Demourelles) is a small island in the Bayou St. John in New Orleans, Louisiana. It was created after the American Civil War by cutting off a deep bend in Bayou St. John, "the Devil's Elbow," that created difficulties for commercial navigation. It was owned by the Demourelle family until 1905. It is located in Orleans Parish, the bayou at this point is paralleled on both sides by St. Bernard Ave. and Wisner Ave. and crossed by Harrison Ave. The island itself is accessed by Park Island Drive. St. Anthony is a neighborhood of the city of New Orleans. A subdistrict of the Gentilly District Area, its boundaries as defined by the City Planning Commission are: New York Street to the north, Elysian Fields Avenue to the east, Mirabeau Avenue to the south and the London Avenue Canal to the west. The neighborhood is part of the Gentilly section of the city as well as the city's 7th Ward. The area experienced disastrous flooding at the end of August 2005 from a levee failure on the London Avenue Canal during Hurricane Katrina.
