Athénée Royal Vauban is a Francophone secondary school in Charleroi, Belgium. For much of its history it was a school for girls, originating from a private school opened by Mrs Dupuis in 1831. The royal decree of 26 Septembre 1881 created a state school for girls, Ecole Moyenne de l'Etat pour Demoiselles. It was officially designated a Royal Antheneum as per the Decree of the Regent of 27 August 1947. The preparatory section began having coeducational education in 1974, with coeducation affecting other portions by 1979. That year the school was renovated.

Tirou is a Charleroi Metro station, located in downtown Charleroi, in fare zone 1. Tirou is an open-air station located at street level (Rue de l'écluse) and offers same-platform bus transfer. The station's lateral platform are publicly accessible and serve as regular street sidewalks. The station and the nearby Tirou Boulevard are named after Joseph Tirou (1876–1952), a former Belgian politician and mayor of Charleroi.

Janson is a Charleroi Metro station, located in downtown Charleroi, Belgium, in fare zone 1. It is an underground station featuring a central platform, with street access at both ends. Interior decoration, designed by architect Jean Yernaux, is themed around the Belgian comics characters from Dupuis Publishing, a well-known Belgian comics publishing company based in Marcinelle (part of the Charleroi municipality). The station and the nearby Paul Janson Boulevard are named after Belgian politician Paul Janson.

On 6 August 2016, a man attacked two policewomen with a machete in Charleroi, Belgium, before being shot dead by another police officer.

The Maison Mattot is a modernist-style residential building on Frans Dewandre Boulevard in Charleroi, Belgium. It was designed in 1937 by architect Marcel Leborgne for the Reine Astrid Maternity Hospital's director, Dr. Mattot. It is a terraced townhouse with a consultation room on the first floor and an apartment on the piano nobile, adapted to the needs of a single person. The architect also designed the furnishings, of which only the built-in elements have survived.

Stade du Pays de Charleroi is a football stadium in the city of Charleroi, Belgium. It was built for the 2000 UEFA European Championship in Belgium and the Netherlands in replacement of the old stadium known as Mambourg. The name Stade du Mambourg officially changed in front of 25,000 spectators on 24 May 1999 during the inaugural match between Sporting and Metz. It is the home of Sporting Charleroi. Its capacity was 30,000 for Euro 2000 but was reduced shortly after to 25,000 in line with Charleroi's average attendances. The capacity was reduced again in 2013 to 15,000. After the capacity reduction, the stands T2, T3, T4 were covered by a new roof. Between 2014 and 2015, minor adjustments to the seating and compliance of the stands for European competitions have been made. The future of this structure of Charleroi is in doubt as the club plans to move to a brand new stadium in the periphery of the city.

Lodelinsart (Walloon: Lodlinsåt) is a town of Wallonia and a district of the municipality of Charleroi, located in the province of Hainaut, Belgium. It was a municipality of its own before the fusion of the Belgian municipalities in 1977.

Beaux-Arts (Fine arts) is the largest station in the Charleroi Metro network, located in Charleroi downtown, in fare zone 1. Because of its situation on a slope, the station terminates on a viaduct at one end (toward Ouest and Piges), and in a tunnel at the other end (toward Waterloo). The station has two street entrances leading to a mezzanine level where ticket counters and shops are located. Platforms are accessible from the mezzanine through escalators and stairs. The station has one lateral platform that used to serve former lines 88 and 89 to Anderlues, and one central platform that currently serves all lines. A third platform, not accessible to passengers, is used to exhibit old Charleroi trams. One particularity of the station is a reversing loop for light rail vehicles entering the station from the west (from Piges or Ouest). It is used by lines M2 and M3, leaving the central loop on their way to Anderlues and Gosseiles, respectively, to enter and leave the station from the same side, thus needing to execute a U-turn. To do so, vehicles first pass through the station on a track not linked to any platform, then enter a loop shaped tunnel to end up in the station again, but from the other side. The name of the station comes from the nearby Palais des Beaux-Arts (Fine arts palace), a music/theatre venue.

Waterloo is a Charleroi Metro station, located at the northern end of Charleroi downtown, in fare zone 1. The station has 3 street entrances (two on each side of the Jules Hénin Avenue, one on the Jules Hiérnaux Square), leading to the lowest level. Platforms are located on the upper level and are accessible through escalators and stairs. The station has one lateral platform which is currently not used (and not connected to any tram tracks). All current lines use a central platform. Waterloo is also the starting point of the partially built but unused Centenaire line. Starting from Waterloo is a short track section running to the North and surfacing north of the Jules Hiérnaux Square, which would have been the starting point of pre-metro lines to Lodelinsart and Gosselies on one side, and Ransart and Heppignies on the other side. (A tram line to Gosselies, beginning at Piges, has been built since.) The station features an extensive track network, allowing light rail vehicles to pass the station and reverse the travel direction by entering it from opposite direction (first bypassing it by a passing loop) or by travelling back after departing the station using a passing loop. On the initial project plan for the Charleroi Pre-metro, the Waterloo station was called Nord (French for North).

Marcinelle (French pronunciation: [maʁsinɛl]; Walloon: Mårcinele) is a town of Wallonia and a district of the municipality of Charleroi, located in the province of Hainaut, Belgium. Until 1977, it was a municipality of its own. The town of Marcinelle is renowned as the home of comics publisher Dupuis and as the birthplace of the celebrated Marcinelle school of Franco-Belgian comics. Many notable creators in the genre have been based in Marcinelle, lending to its reputation as a hub of comic artists. Marcinelle is also the place where serial killer Marc Dutroux lived, before his arrest.

The N5 is a road in Belgium connecting the small ring in Brussels and Philippeville via Charleroi (commonly named French: Route de Philippeville till the ring of Charleroi). This road could be one of the deadliest of the country. This is not only due to the traffic density and the old fashioned road safety features, but also because many country roads are joining onto a high speed lane, namely the tractors harvesting sugar beet. It has also been part of the history of Belgium in the Battle of Waterloo, during which the Imperial French Army went through this path to join the battlefield of Quatre-Bras/LignyThe N5 crosses or borders 17 municipalities in total. 4 municipalities are located in the Brussels Capital Region, 1 in Flemish Brabant, 5 in Walloon Brabant, 4 in Hainaut and 3 in Namur. The Digue Square and Digue Street are located in the lower town of Charleroi, Belgium. The triangular-shaped square rises from Dampremy Street in the east to Grand Central Street in the west. Before the works, it was a paved parking lot; since May 2014, it has been a pedestrian space above an underground parking lot. The street climbs from Digue Square towards Alliés Avenue, a little further north.
