Tápiószecső is a village in Pest county, Hungary. It is a very old settlement which has been inhabited since prehistoric times. Evidence of human activities has been found and exhibited in the Hungarian National Museum. In the Middle Ages the town was also known as 'Key-Town' which referred to the key of the city walls. According to tradition, the guardian of the key was called 'Szecső'. It is commonly believed that the name of the town origins from this guardian. 'Tápió' refers to the small stream near the village. The village lies next to Gödöllő hill. Small hills can be found near Tápiószecső with fertile soil (these hills were also referred to as 'Feketék', which means 'Black soil'), which made it possible to establish excellent vineyards. These vineyards were famous for being fruitful, making them a hallmark of the village. As for sightseeing, Hevessy Castle is a place to visit in Magdolna-telep (the western part of the village), which was owned by the noble Hevessy family for several centuries. The current mayor of the town is Gál Csaba, who was elected in 2019.

Battle of Tápióbicske

The Battle of Tápióbicske was a battle in the Spring Campaign of the Hungarian War of Independence (1848–1849), fought on 4 April 1849 between the Austrian Empire and the Hungarian Revolutionary Army. The Habsburg forces consisted of the I Corps of the Imperial Army led by Lieutenant Field Marshal Josip Jelačić. The Hungarians deployed I and III Corps led by General György Klapka and General János Damjanich respectively. Although initially the careless soldiers of the I. corps were put to flight by the Croatian and Austrian soldiers, after entering in their trap, the Hungarians were victorious, thanks to the intervention of the III. corps, and the main Hungarian armies could advance towards the Hungarian capitals (Buda and Pest), forcing the Austrian high commander, Field Marshal Alfred I, Prince of Windisch-Grätz fight a decisive battle at Isaszeg, which would decide the fate of Central and Western Hungary until the intervention of the Russian forces on the Habsburg side in June 1849.

Battle of Tura

The Battle of Tura was fought around the village of Tura by the cavalry of the IX. and the X. corps of the Hungarian revolutionary army led by General Mór Perczel and the Russian cavalry detachment led by Lieutenant General Aleksandr Petrovich Tolstoy and the 1. brigade of the 5. infantry division led by Lieutenant General Ivan Mikhaylovich Labintsov. The Hungarians advanced towards North in order to relieve the Russian pressure over General Artúr Görgei's Army of the Upper Danube, which after the second battle of Vác from 15 to 17 July was heading towards the Hungarian armies meeting point around Szeged. The battle started between the Hungarian cavalry units under Perczel and the Russian cavalry under Tolstoy. The Hungarians pushed back the Russian cavalry, but when the Russian infantry led by Labintsov arrived, Perczel retreated. The Russians did not pursued his troops. Although the Russians remained the masters of the battlefield, Perczel's objective to ease the Russian pressure over Görgei's troops succeeded, helping in this way the latter to succeed in his march to Southern Hungary.
