Smalley, Derbyshire

Amber Valley is a local government district with borough status in the east of Derbyshire, England, taking its name from the River Amber. Its council is based in Ripley. The district covers a semi-rural area lying to the north of the city of Derby. The district contains four main towns whose economy was based on coal mining and remains to some extent influenced by engineering, distribution and manufacturing, holding for instance the headquarters and production site of Thorntons confectionery. The seat in the House of Commons of Amber Valley is of smaller scope. The village of Crich and other parts of the district were the setting for ITV drama series Peak Practice.

Stainsby House is an architecturally notable house in Horsley Woodhouse, Derbyshire, England. It was designed by Nottingham architect David Shelley, and built for the businessman Robert Morley, owner of Alida Packaging at Heanor Gate. The house was completed in 1974.

Horsley Woodhouse is a village and civil parish in the Amber Valley district of Derbyshire, in the East Midlands of England. The population of the civil parish taken at the 2011 Census was 1,219. It is situated on the A609 road between the neighbouring villages of Kilburn and Smalley. The nearest towns are Heanor, situated 2.6 miles (4.2 km) northeast, and Belper, 3.2 miles (5.1 km) northwest, while the city of Derby is located about 6 miles (9.7 km) south-southwest. The name is said to mean "houses in the wood belonging to Horsley", and is often known by its dialect pronunciation "Ossley Woodhus".

Stanley Common is a village in the south-east of Derbyshire in the East Midlands of England.It is situated on the A609 main road between Ilkeston and Derby and is in the Erewash borough, although in the new (2010) UK parliamentary constituency of Mid Derbyshire. Stanley Common is part of the same civil parish as the village of Stanley which is situated a mile or so to the South. It has the larger population of the two villages and incorporates Smalley Common, once part of the neighbouring village of Smalley, but which is located much nearer to Stanley Common.

Heanor Gate Spencer Academy is a medium-sized secondary academy school and specialist Science College located in Heanor in the Amber Valley district of Derbyshire, England. Although in 2012 the school achieved an "outstanding" Ofsted report, in 2013 the school was downgraded to "inadequate", which resulted in the school being placed in special measures.

Heanor railway station was a former railway station at Heanor in Derbyshire, England, opened in 1891. It was the terminus of the branch from Ilkeston on the Great Northern Railway Derbyshire Extension line. It was one of two stations called "Heanor". The other had been opened by the Midland Railway the year before. It was not until 1950 that British Railways renamed them Heanor North and Heanor South. Unofficially, the station was known locally as 'Heanor Gate' to separate it from the other Heanor station before they were both officially renamed.The GNR station closed to passenger services in 1939 and for goods in 1963. The last stationmaster was H.H. Voss, also a Derbyshire County Council Alderman who retired after 44 years service on the railway locally in October 1963.

Kilburn is a village and civil parish in the English county of Derbyshire, known as Kilbourne until around 100 years ago. The population of the civil parish taken at the 2011 Census was 3,618.Forming part of the borough of Amber Valley, Kilburn has few amenities for the people who live there including a local police station, community officer and several parks for young children. There is a Chinese restaurant, Jade Garden. The local fish and chip shop, Kilburn Fish Bar, closed in April 2021. There is a shop in the village, Metro Stores. The village post office is inside of Metro. There are two hair and beauty salons in Kilburn, Amber Hair and Vanity. It was historically served by Kilburn railway station on the Midland Railway Ripley Branch. Kilburn used to have two public houses: The Hunters Arms and the Travellers Rest. Only the Hunters Arm remains open. There is also a working men's club (Kilburn Social Club) adjoined to the football field at the back of Chapel Street. The other prominent features of the village include the War Memorial situated at the top of Bywell Lane, and the Village Hall on Church St, which hosts various leisure activities and is available for residents to hire and use via their Facebook page. Kilburn is served by three schools within the village: Kilburn Nursery (4 - 5), Kilburn Infant School (5 - 7) and Kilburn Junior School (7 - 11). School children then progress to John Flamsteed Community School in Denby until they are 16. There is also a Baptist Chapel as well as a Methodist Chapel, located on Highfield Road and Chapel St, respectively. A number of associations serve the village. The Parish Council is elected from local residents and works toward improving and maintaining the village. The Kilburn Community Association voluntarily maintain and operate the Kilburn Village Hall. A village newsletter, locally circulated, report on the work of these bodies, as well as other institutions such as the local Women's Institute which serves both Kilburn and Denby. There are annual traditions such as a village treasure hunt, a village quiz, the junior school Summer Fair and Christmas Shopping Evening and carol singing which raise funds both for the village and charitable causes in Derbyshire.

Stanley and Stanley Common is a civil parish in south-east Derbyshire in the East Midlands of England. It comprises the villages of Stanley and Stanley Common. The population of the civil parish as of the 2011 census was 2,100.In former years, the civil parish was simply known as Stanley, but the name was changed in the 1990s. Although in the borough of Erewash, the parish is in the UK Parliamentary Constituency of Mid Derbyshire.

Brackley Gate is a hamlet in the Erewash district, in Derbyshire, England. It forms part of the civil parish of Morley. It is located northeast of Derby, southeast of Belper, west of Ilkeston, south of Ripley, and southwest of Heanor. It lies at the end of a dead-end road and consists of houses and farms. It is surrounded by open countryside and the nearby Bluebell Woods.

Loscoe is a village near Heanor in Derbyshire, England, lying within the civil parish of Heanor and Loscoe. It had prominent coalmines in the 19th and 20th centuries. Denby Common and Codnor Breach are hamlets on the western edge of the village.
