WEFM (95.9 MHz) is an FM radio station in Michigan City, Indiana, east of the Chicago metropolitan area. It is a member of the Indianapolis Colts affiliates radio network, and the flagship station of the Gary SouthShore RailCats.

It is the largest of the two principal cities of the Michigan City-La Porte, Indiana Metropolitan statistical area, which is included in the Chicago-Naperville-Michigan City Combined statistical area. In the Northwest indiana region known to locals as "The Region" and Michiana, the city is about 45 miles (72 km) east of Chicago, regarded as a suburb due to its popularity among Chicagoans as a tourism town and ease of affordable access via South Shore Line passenger train. Michigan city is also 40 miles (64 km) west of South Bend. It had a population of 31,479 at the 2010 census. Michigan City is noted for both its proximity to Indiana Dunes National Park and for bordering Lake Michigan. It receives a fair amount of tourism during the summer, especially by residents of Chicago and nearby cities in Northern Indiana. The lighthouse is a notable symbol of the city and is incorporated in its official seal and formerly in the heading of its former newspaper, The News-Dispatch.

It developed between about 1860 and 1963, and includes examples of Italianate, Greek Revival, Queen Anne, Colonial Revival, and Bungalow / American Craftsman style architecture. Notable buildings include the A.J. Henry House (1904, 1908), Kubik Doctors Office (1953), Manny House (1902), Haskell-Boyd House (1875, c. 1917), Moritz House (1911), Zorn Brewey (c. 1877), Petti Grocery (c. 1900), Luchtman Building (c. 1900), Dr. Ginther House (1940), Sherman Apartment Building (1921), First Baptist Church (1914), the Public Library (1896-1897), and the Adventist Church - Christian Science Church (c. 1860).It was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 2013.

11th Street station is a train station in the central city neighborhood of Michigan City, Indiana. It serves the South Shore Line commuter rail line and is one of two active stations in Michigan City, the other being Carroll Avenue station. It is located adjacent to the location of the historic 11th Street station of the former Chicago, South Shore and South Bend Railroad station (now demolished), which operated the station from 1927 until 1987. Prior to the May 2021 closure, the station was composed of a passenger shelter and a sign on the northwest corner of East 11th Street and Pine Street; boarding and alighting was done from the street itself. A more modern station with two tracks and high-level platforms opened in October 2023.

Barker House is a historic home located at Michigan City, LaPorte County, Indiana. It was built about 1900, and is a two-story, rectangular, Shingle Style / Prairie School style dwelling. It sits on a brick foundation and has a hipped roof with hipped dormer and has a modified American Foursquare plan. Also on the property are the contributing carriage house, dance studio, and garage.: 5  The house and grounds are occupied by the Save the Dunes offices and Barker Woods Nature Preserve, which is managed by Shirley Heinze Land Trust. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001.

Garrettson-Baine-Bartholomew House is a historic home located at Michigan City, LaPorte County, Indiana. It was built in 1908, and is a two-story, asymmetrical, Tudor Revival style dwelling. It features a full-length porch, stone first story, and stucco and half-timbering on the second story.: 5 It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001.

The district encompasses 73 contributing buildings and 1 contributing object in the central business district and surrounding residential section of Michigan City. It developed between about 1875 and 1955, and includes examples of Italianate, Gothic Revival, Queen Anne, Classical Revival, and Tudor Revival style architecture. Located in the district is the separately listed Michigan City Post Office (1909-1910). Other notable buildings include the Staiger House (c. 1908), Earl House (c. 1890, 1917), M & M Diner (1955), Zorn Building (1907), St. Paul's Lutheran Church (1876) and rectory (1888), First Federal Savings Bank (c. 1950), Aicher Block (1914), Brinkman Building (c. 1917), Trinity Episcopal Church (1889), Merchants National Bank Building (1926), Ledbetter Building (1908), Rodenbeck Saloon (c. 1894), First Methodist Episcopal Church (1922), Barker Hall (1929), Masonic Temple (1922-1923), and the Salvation Army Building (1925).It was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 2013.

Michigan City Post Office is a historic post office building located at Michigan City, LaPorte County, Indiana. It was designed by the Office of the Supervising Architect under James Knox Taylor and built in 1909. It is a one-story, Georgian Revival style brick and limestone building. It has a hipped roof behind a balustraded parapet and basement. A rear addition was built in 1926, and expanded in 1963. It housed a post office until 1973.: 5 It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2000. It is located in the Franklin Street Commercial Historic District.
