Wheler Street Moravian Church was founded in 1899 through outreach work from the nearby Fairfield Moravian Settlement. The new church stood at Wheler Street in Higher Openshaw, Manchester, England.

Droylsden Academy is a secondary school in Droylsden, Manchester. It opened in September 2009 on the site of the former Droylsden School, Mathematics and Computing College for Girls which it replaced. The former Littlemoss High School for Boys was also replaced by this school.The school buildings were completed in January 2012 and accommodates 1400 students. The School also housed a small number of sixth form students between the years of 2011 and 2013 under the name D6. This branch of the school was closed down in 2013 causing A-level students to relocate to other sixth form colleges, mainly to Clarendon Sixth Form College, formerly in Hyde.This school uses a slogan of PH2 (politeness hard-working and honesty.) The school has been reported to have brilliant teachers and good time schedules.

Droylsden is a town in Tameside, Greater Manchester, England, 4.1 miles (6.6 km) east of Manchester city centre and 2.2 miles (3.5 km) west of Ashton-under-Lyne, with a population at the 2011 Census of 22,689.Within the boundaries of the historic county of Lancashire, in the mid-19th century Droylsden grew as a mill town on the Ashton canal. Beginning in the early 1930s, Droylsden's population expanded rapidly as it became a housing overflow area for neighbouring Manchester. Since 1785, the Fairfield area of Droylsden has been home to a Moravian Church.

The Alhambra Theatre in Higher Openshaw, Manchester, England, was opened in 1910, part of the H. D. Moorhouse Theatre Circuit, but it had been converted to a cinema by the outbreak of the First World War in 1914. The cinema was converted into a bingo hall in the early 1960s. The auditorium was finally used as a sporting club, and what remained of the building was used as a restaurant, storage space and glass works. The Alhambra was demolished in 2009 to make way for a new Morrisons supermarket.

Cemetery Road is a tram stop on the East Manchester Line (EML) of Greater Manchester's light-rail Metrolink system. It opened on 11 February 2013, after a three-day free trial for local residents. Openshaw is a suburb of Manchester, Greater Manchester, England, about three miles east of the Manchester city centre. Historically part of Lancashire, Openshaw was incorporated into the city of Manchester in 1890. Its name derives from the Old English Opinschawe, which means an open wood or coppice.During the Second Industrial Revolution, when Openshaw become an area of heavy industry, socialism and trade unionism flourished. In 1910 the Openshaw Socialists were formed; Keir Hardie, founder of the Labour Party, spoke at their inaugural meeting. Annie Lee became Manchester's first socialist woman alderman in 1936, having been secretary of the Openshaw Independent Labour Party since the 1890s. Following profound de-industrialisation. Openshaw is now a multicultural area with diverse shops and services opening reflecting the change in demographic.

Gorton railway station serves Gorton district of the city of Manchester, England. The station is on the Manchester-Glossop Line and is 2+1⁄2 miles (4.0 km) east of Manchester Piccadilly. It was opened by the Great Central Railway (GCR) on 25 August 1906 and replaced an earlier station that opened on the line on 23 May 1842. From 1 January 1923, the station was operated by the London and North Eastern Railway (LNER). The new station was on the busy Woodhead Route to Sheffield Victoria and had four platforms. The original station was situated 200 yards (180 m) west of the present station. From its opening, the new station was named Gorton and Openshaw, and it reverted to its original name by 1977. It was referred to as Openshaw in the 1964 song "Slow Train" by Flanders and Swann. Only two platforms now remain in use.

Clayton is a suburb of Manchester, England, 3 miles east of the city centre on Ashton New Road. Historically in Lancashire, Clayton takes its name from the Clayton family who owned large parts of land around the area, including Clayton Vale, through which the River Medlock flows, separating Clayton from Newton Heath. Clayton was under the township of Droylsden until around 1890 when alterations to the Manchester boundary took place. Other towns added to Manchester around this time were Blackley, Crumpsall, Moston, Openshaw and Gorton.
