Coyote Lake (Santa Clara County, California)

Coyote Dam is a 140-foot (43 m) high, 980-foot (300 m) long, earth and rock dam built in 1936 (1936) in Santa Clara County, California, United States, located north of Gilroy. It impounds the 635-acre (257 ha) 3.5-mile (5.6 km) long Coyote Lake (also known as Coyote Reservoir). The Santa Clara Valley Water District owns the dam.

This general aviation airport covers 179 acres (72 ha) and has one runway. A self-service fueling facility offers 94UL aviation gasoline (not 100LL) continuously. Jet-A fuel is available from a full-service truck during FBO operating hours, and major airframe and powerplant service are available. San Martin Aviation is the fixed-base operator (FBO) at South County, serving aviation fuels and aircraft & hangar maintenance.Although still distinctly visible from the air and shown on some maps, taxiway "F", adjacent to the U.S. Route 101 fence, has been abandoned and decommissioned since about 2000. The Wings of History Air Museum is located adjacent to the airport.

The 1979 Coyote Lake earthquake occurred at 10:05:24 local time on August 6 with a moment magnitude of 5.7 and a maximum Mercalli Intensity of VII (Very strong). The shock occurred on the Calaveras Fault near Coyote Lake in Santa Clara County, California and resulted in a number of injuries, including some that required hospitalization. Most of the $500,000 in damage that was caused was non-structural, but several businesses were closed for repairs. Data from numerous strong motion instruments was used to determine the type, depth, and extent of slip. A non-destructive aftershock sequence that lasted throughout the remainder of the month was of interest to seismologists, especially with regard to fault creep, and following the event local governments evaluated their response to the incident.

Wings of History is an aviation museum in San Martin, California. It is a nonprofit organization that operates using donations and membership dues. The museum also has a restoration shop, library, and propeller shop.

The Crews Fire was a wildfire that burned east of the city of Gilroy in Santa Clara County, California, in the United States. The fire started on July 5, 2020. It burned 5,513 acres (2,231 ha) and was extinguished on July 13, 2020. Burning approximately three miles east of Highway 101, the fire caused the evacuation approximately 20 homes and 70 residents. One structure was destroyed, one was damaged, and one firefighter was injured. It threatened 30 structures and farm and ranch lands in southeast Gilroy in the San Juan Valley. Mandatory evacuations were ordered on July 5, and they were lifted on July 8.

Rancho San Francisco de las Llagas was a 22,283-acre (90.18 km2) Mexican land grant in present-day Santa Clara County, California given in 1834 by Governor José Figueroa to Carlos Antonio Castro. The grant extended along Llagas Creek from about one mile south of present-day Morgan Hill to about one mile north of Gilroy, and included present-day San Martin.

The San Ysidro District AVA is an American Viticultural Area located in Santa Clara County, California. It is part of the larger Santa Clara Valley AVA and is located in the foothills of the Diablo Range. San Ysidro District is significantly cooler than other parts of Santa Clara Valley. Cooling breezes can reach the area via the Pajaro River which cuts into the nearby foothills.

Christopher High School is a co-educational public school in Gilroy, California. It is one of two public comprehensive high schools in the city and has an approximate enrollment of 1,900 students. It is a part of the Gilroy Unified School District. The school is named for the Christopher family, owner of the Christopher Ranch, a local garlic farm that is one of the largest employers in Gilroy. Christopher donated 10 acres of land and started an endowment for the school with an initial investment of $75,000. The school opened in 2009.
