The North Table Mountain Ecological Reserve is a nature reserve of 3,315 acres (13.42 km2) located three miles (5 km) north of Oroville, in Butte County, northern California. The land was acquired by the state in October, 1993.

Oregon City, formerly Bloomingdale and Hengy, is a ghost town located between Oroville and Cherokee in Butte County, California. One of the first mining camps in the county, it was established in the autumn of 1848 by a party of Oregonians, who came to California over the Applegate and Lassen trails. Little more than a year later their captain, Peter H. Burnett, became the first civil Governor of California. For a time, Oregon City prospered as a gold mining and supply center, then it declined into virtual oblivion. It lies 1,184 feet (361 m) above mean sea level. The Hengy post office operated from 1894 to 1900 and from 1901 to 1902; it was named after the first postmaster, Jessie Hengy. The Bloomingdale post office operated from 1902 to 1905.The site of the camp is now a California Historical Landmark.The Oregon City Covered Bridge, also known as the Castleberry Covered Bridge, is located near Oregon City.

Nelson Bar is a former settlement in Butte County, California. It was located 5.25 miles (8.45 km) southeast of Paradise on the West Branch of the Feather River, at an elevation of 974 feet (297 m). It is now under Lake Oroville. The Nelson Bar bridge spanned the West Branch of the Feather River until Oroville Dam was built. It was submerged under Lake Oroville.

The 2001 Poe Fire was a destructive wildfire in the U.S. state of California's Butte County. After igniting on September 6, the fire burned 8,333 acres (3,372 hectares) and destroyed at least 133 structures in the Big Bend and Yankee Hill areas north of Oroville before it was fully contained on September 12, 2001. The fire was the most destructive incident of California's 2001 wildfire season.The fire started when a tree fell on a Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) power line, and the incident was the subject of a civil lawsuit by more than a hundred plaintiffs that PG&E eventually settled for several million dollars.

Yankee Hill (formerly, Rich Gulch and Spanishtown) is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Butte County, California. It is located 6.5 miles (10.5 km) east-southeast of Paradise, at an elevation of 1982 feet (604 m). The population was 333 at the 2010 census.

The 2010 United States census reported Butte Valley's population is 899.

On May 1, 2014, Butte–Glenn Community College District was named one of fifty five higher education institutions under investigation by the Office of Civil Rights "for possible violations of federal law over the handling of sexual violence and harassment complaints" by President Barack Obama's White House Task Force To Protect Students from Sexual Assault.

In February 2017, heavy rainfall damaged Oroville Dam's main and emergency spillways, prompting the evacuation of more than 180,000 people living downstream along the Feather River and the relocation of a fish hatchery. Heavy rainfall during the 2017 California floods damaged the main spillway on February 7, so the California Department of Water Resources stopped the spillway flow to assess the damage and contemplate its next steps. The rain eventually raised the lake level until it flowed over the emergency spillway, even after the damaged main spillway was reopened. As water flowed over the emergency spillway, headward erosion threatened to undermine and collapse the concrete weir, which could have sent a 30-foot (10 m) wall of water into the Feather River below and flooded communities downstream. No collapse occurred, but the water further damaged the main spillway and eroded the bare slope of the emergency spillway.

Adventist Health Feather River, also known as Feather River Hospital, is a 101-bed acute care hospital located in the town of Paradise, in Butte County, California, with a wide array of outpatient departments and services designed to meet the health care needs of Paradise, Magalia, and neighboring communities. It was severely damaged in the November 2018 Camp Fire and is currently closed.
