Merton Abbey railway station

Merton Priory was an English Augustinian priory founded in 1114 by Gilbert Norman, Sheriff of Surrey under King Henry I (1100–1135). It was situated within the manor of Merton in the county of Surrey, in what is today the Colliers Wood area in the London Borough of Merton.

Bennett's Ditch—sometimes spelled Bennetts Ditch—is a minor river (brook) located in the locality of Colliers Wood in the London Borough of Merton, Greater London, England. It is a tributary of Pickle Ditch, itself a tributary of the River Wandle. Bennett's Ditch ostensibly receives its name from Calico Print Works, which was located in the area and owned by a Mr. Bennett. Bennett's Mill, a textile manufacturing factory, used to be located by the stream.

Merton Abbey is an area in southwest London, England. It lies between South Wimbledon and Colliers Wood in the London Borough of Merton. Merton Abbey takes its name from Merton Priory, which once stood on the northern edge of the district. The area is bounded by Merton High Street to the north, the River Wandle to the west, Christchurch Road to the east and Deen City Farm to the south. Despite the area being considered by many to be part of neighbouring Colliers Wood, most of Merton Abbey falls within Merton's "Lavender Fields" ward. The area is within the SW postcode area.

Merton Abbey Mills is a former textile factory in the parish of Merton in London, England near the site of the medieval Merton Priory, now the home of a variety of businesses, mostly retailers. The River Wandle flowing north towards Wandsworth drove watermills and provided water for a number of industrial processes in Merton. Merton Abbey Mills were established by Huguenot silk throwers in the early eighteenth century; there were already textile works nearby from 1667.Liberty & Co. had been involved with the site since the 19th century, as their popular ranges of fabrics for dress and furniture were nearly all made there by Littler and Co. In 1904 Liberty & Co took over the Littler site. They continued to operate the Merton Abbey Mills until 1972, and textile production was continued by other firms until 1982. During World War II part of the site was used to construct gun-turrets for the Bristol Blenheim fighter-bomber.Today Merton Abbey Mills is a crafts market and the site of a summer theatre and music festival called Abbeyfest. A number of buildings from the Morris period, and even earlier, survive, and there are displays on the history of the site. A water-mill still turns in the summer, and the "colourhouse", a mid-18th century industrial building, is now a children's theatre. The water-mill and colour house are both Grade II listed buildings.

The King's Head was a public house in Merton High Street. An inn existed on the site from the 16th century, and served as a post house in the 17th century. The modern building was constructed in 1933, and is Grade II listed. It closed as a pub in 2004, and later became offices for London General Buses.

Pickle Ditch, also known as the Pickle, is a minor, 0.9-kilometre (0.56 mi) long stream—brook—in the locality of Colliers Wood in the London Borough of Merton, Greater London, England. Rising from the River Wandle, a tributary of the River Thames, and flowing back into it, Pickle Ditch is the last remaining course of the River Wandle's original course through Merton, before the other sections were straightened.

Wandle Park is a public park in the London Borough of Merton near Colliers Wood Underground station in south London, England.The park is located to the south of Wandle Meadow Nature Park and is approximately 11 acres (4.5 ha) in size. It is bounded to the south by Colliers Wood High Street, where there is an entrance, the River Wandle to the west (hence the name), and Byegrove Road to the north.

Colliers Wood is a London Underground station in South London. The station is on the Northern line, between Tooting Broadway and South Wimbledon stations. It is located at the corner of Merton High Street (A24) and Christchurch Road. The station is in Travelcard Zone 3.

Wimbledon Film & Television Studios is an English film and television production company and facilities provider, located in Colliers Wood, between Mitcham and Wimbledon in south London.

Phipps Bridge is a housing estate in Mitcham in the London Borough of Merton. It was built following a need created by the end of the Second World War on the site of old slums, and is named after a nearby bridge. Although it opened in the 1960s as a show-piece estate it took less than ten years for it to become a slum again, and the council continued to redevelop it into the 1990s.

Wandle Meadow Nature Park is a 4.15 hectare local nature reserve and Site of Borough Importance for Nature Conservation, Grade 1, in Wimbledon in the London Borough of Merton. It is owned and managed by Merton Council.A map of 1847 shows the site as Byegrove Mead, which may have been managed as water meadows. In 1877 it was acquired by a sewage company, and it formed part of a sewage works until this closed in 1970. A plan to build a stadium for Wimbledon Football Club on the site was strongly opposed by local residents, and in 1989 it was designated as a nature reserve by Merton Council.The Meadow lies between the River Wandle and Mead Path, part of the Wandle Trail. Wetland plants and animals include small sweet-grass, eared willow and broad-bodied chaser dragonflies. Bullfinches, whitethroats and reed buntings breed in woodland areas. There are also bodies of water which have a variety of frogs, toads and newts.The Nature Reserve is accessible via Chaucer Way, Boundary Road & North Road in Colliers Wood, a footbridge across the River Wandle from Garfield Road Recreation Ground in South Wimbledon and from a footpath at Plough Lane, Wimbledon.

South Wimbledon is a London Underground station in South Wimbledon, a suburb of Wimbledon in south-west London. The station is on the Northern line, situated between Colliers Wood and Morden stations. It is located on the corner of Merton High Street (A238) and Morden Road (A219). South Wimbledon is on the boundary between Travelcard Zone 3 and Zone 4.
