On 1 January 1965, it was merged into Ghent.It is situated near the canal that connects the cities of Ghent and Terneuzen, which puts Mendonk in the middle of an industrial area.

The municipality comprises the town of Wachtebeke proper, and a smaller town: Overslag. In 2021, Wachtebeke had a total population of 7.769. The total area is 34.53 km2.The current mayor of Wachtebeke (as of 2012) is Rudy van Cronenburg. The Langelede is a small canal and corresponding residential street in the town. The neighborhood is slowly migrating from a poor agricultural environment towards a higher middle-class residential area. In Wachtebeke lies the provincial park Puyenbroeck

Zandstraat is a small village in the Dutch province of Zeeland. It is a part of the municipality of Terneuzen, and lies about 27 km southeast of Vlissingen. Zandstraat is not a statistical entity, and the postal authorities have placed it under Sas van Gent. Zandstraat developed after 1848 when the land was poldered. It consists of about 150 houses. The Catholic Pastor van Erk Church was built in 1949 and decommissioned in 2013.

Overslag is a village in the municipality of Wachtebeke in the province of East Flanders in Belgium. The original village was cut in two by the Belgium–Netherlands border. The eponymous village in the Netherlands is part of the municipality of Terneuzen.

Overslag is a village in the Dutch province of Zeeland. It is a part of the municipality of Terneuzen, and lies about 36 km southeast of Vlissingen. The village was first mentioned in 1542 as "ten Overslach", and means place where goods could be transferred. It was located where the canal from Axel and canal from the Belgian Wachtebeke were closed together. It is a border village which is cut in two by the Netherlands-Belgian border. In 1547, the Sassevaart was dug and Overslag become obsolete for the transfer of goods. The parish church is located on the Belgian side. During World War I, it was not possible to completely shut the border and the Wire of Death, a lethal electric fence, ran through the village.Overslag was a separate municipality until 1970, when it was merged with Axel.

Assenede (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈɑsəneːdə] ) is a municipality located in the Belgian province of East Flanders. The municipality comprises the towns of Assenede proper, Bassevelde, Boekhoute and Oosteeklo. On 1 January 2021, Assenede had a total population of 14,369. The total area is 87.22 km².

Ertvelde is a village of the Belgian municipality of Evergem. Eddy Wally used to have his legendary show venue in the village-centre, called "Paris, Las Vegas". The Brouwerij Van Steenberge is located in Ertvelde. The brewery produces Gulden Draak, a strong tripel ale. You can also find historical things, like the 'Mottekasteel' and a collection of materials used in WWI at the (old) local government. The church is rebuilt after it was broken down by the Germans in WWII.' They renovated a large part of the 'Motte castle Hoge Wal', now you can have a view over the 'Hoge Wal'. The 'Hoge Wal' is a big parc with a Finnish path.

Doornzele is a village in the municipality of Evergem in the province of East Flanders, Belgium. The village is notable for its dries (village square) which is one of the largest in Belgium and in near original condition. Doornzele is located on the Ghent–Terneuzen Canal about 11 kilometres (6.8 mi) north of Ghent.
