Mendonk (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈmɛndɔŋk]) is a sub-municipality of the city of Ghent located in the province of East Flanders, Flemish Region, Belgium. It was a separate municipality until 1965. In 1927, part of the original municipality was already annexed to Ghent. On 1 January 1965, it was merged into Ghent.It is situated near the canal that connects the cities of Ghent and Terneuzen, which puts Mendonk in the middle of an industrial area.

The neighborhood is slowly migrating from a poor agricultural environment towards a higher middle-class residential area. In Wachtebeke lies the provincial park Puyenbroeck

Zelzate (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈzɛlzaːtə]) is a municipality located in the Belgian province of East Flanders. The municipality only comprises the town of Zelzate proper. In 2021, Zelzate had a total population of 13,124. The total area is 13.71 km2.Zelzate is divided into two parts by the Ghent–Terneuzen Canal. There is a concrete drawbridge and a tunnel to connect the two sides. Zelzate is known for the nearby polluting industry, which makes it the village with the lowest air quality in the country. Recently ArcelorMittal Ghent (Sidmar) made a major investment which resulted in an emission decrease of 90%.

The municipality is composed of the towns of Beervelde, Lochristi proper, Zaffelare and Zeveneken. As of 2021, Lochristi had a total population of 22,621. The total area is 60.34 km2 (23.30 sq mi).

Desteldonk is a village in the municipality of Ghent in the Belgian province of East Flanders. The first historical record of Desteldonk dates back to 966 when it was listed as Thesledung. In 1236, it was named as a parish. Part of the original municipality was already annexed in 1927. It became part of Ghent in 1965.

Overslag is a village in the Dutch province of Zeeland. It is a part of the municipality of Terneuzen, and lies about 36 km southeast of Vlissingen. The village was first mentioned in 1542 as "ten Overslach", and means place where goods could be transferred. It was located where the canal from Axel and canal from the Belgian Wachtebeke were closed together. It is a border village which is cut in two by the Netherlands-Belgian border. In 1547, the Sassevaart was dug and Overslag become obsolete for the transfer of goods. The parish church is located on the Belgian side. During World War I, it was not possible to completely shut the border and the Wire of Death, a lethal electric fence, ran through the village.Overslag was a separate municipality until 1970, when it was merged with Axel.

Sas van Gent is a town in the Netherlands. It is located in the Dutch province of Zeeland. It is a part of the municipality of Terneuzen and lies about 30 km south of Vlissingen on the border with Belgium. The Ghent–Terneuzen Canal passes through Sas van Gent, and at that point there was a lock in the canal. The name of the village, Sas van Gent, means sluice of Ghent.
