Central Subway

The Hotel Utah, is a historic mixed-use building known as a saloon bar, live music venue, and residential hotel, built in 1908 and located in the South of Market neighborhood of San Francisco, California. It is known for its diverse open mic nights, which have historically attracted some people who have later become famous. It is also known as The Utah Inn, The Hotel Utah Saloon, and simply The Utah. The Hotel Utah has been listed as a San Francisco Designated Landmark since November 2, 2018.

The Trocadero Transfer was an after hours dance club in San Francisco from its opening in December 1977 to the late 1990s. It was located at 520 4th Street at Bryant in the SoMa neighborhood. In 2000, the club was bought by a new owner, remodeled, and renamed to the Glas Kat. In late 2011, the club was again remodeled, and the name was changed to The Grand.

The Tool Box was a leather bar for gay men in San Francisco that operated from 1962 to 1971 on the east corner of 4th Street and Harrison Street. It was the first leather bar in the South of Market, and a meeting spot where influential personalities of the early San Francisco leather scene gathered. After a prominent feature in Life magazine in 1964, it was considered the archetypal leather bar, helping to cement San Francisco's reputation as the “gay capital” of the US. The bar's history was short-lived: from 1965 onwards, the epicenter of the leather scene shifted towards Folsom Street (most notably Febe's bar), which ultimately led to its closing in 1971. The Tool Box is commemorated at the San Francisco South of Market Leather History Alley. The patronage of the Tool Box included influential personalities of the early San Francisco leather scene, among others artist Bill Tellman, Jack H. (owner of the Detour and the Slot, co-owner of Febe's), artist Mike Caffee (creator of the logo and a statue for Febe's), as well as the Satyrs Motorcycle Club (oldest gay motorcycle club in the US) from Los Angeles. The artist Chuck Arnett also worked as a bartender at the Tool Box. On June 26th 1964, Life magazine published a cover story titled "Homosexuality in America", which not only brought San Francisco as a hub of gay life into public consciousness, but also the Tool Box. The article opened with a two-page photo-spread of its interior with patrons dressed in leather beneath a mural, photographed by Bill Eppridge. In the 1991 anthology, Leatherfolk, Jack Fritscher described the article as "an image-liberating historical issue that was read across the nation as an invitation to come to San Francisco and be a man's man." The article also included an interview with Bill Ruquy, part owner of the bar, who detailed the strict dress code that excluded tennis shoes among other garments that didn't fit the biker aesthetic. Especially for queer men living in conservative small towns, the publication shed a spotlight on this gay subculture of butch leathermen, who did not fit the widespread clichés of the 'effeminate homosexual'—and where to find them. Thus, the Life piece unintentionally became an advertisement for the leather scene and ultimately a catalyst of gay emancipation. Drummer magazine dedicated an article about the demolition of the Tool Box in its second volume in August 1975, titled "Requiem for a toolbox". This further illustrates the importance that contemporaries awarded to the Tool Box's role in gay leather history.

715 Harrison is a nightclub venue located in the SoMa neighborhood of San Francisco, California, known mostly for hosting Club X since 1989 and previously City Nights from 1985 to 2020. The club is designated by San Francisco as a legacy business and is additionally known within the Bay Area for being one of the few venues consistently open to guests above 18 years of age, rather than 21, as is the case with most clubs.

4th and Brannan station is an at-grade Muni Metro light rail station located in the median of 4th Street at Brannan Street in the South of Market (SoMa) district of San Francisco, California. It opened on November 19, 2022, as part of the Central Subway project. The station is served by the T Third Street line which runs between Chinatown and Sunnydale.

Yerba Buena/Moscone station is an underground light rail station of the San Francisco Municipal Railway's Muni Metro system that is under construction. It is located on the corner of 4th and Folsom streets at the northern end of the South of Market, San Francisco (SoMa) district. Its construction is part of the Central Subway Project and it will be a future station on the T Third Street line. Construction on the station was originally scheduled to be completed in 2017, but was substantially delayed with the rest of the subway. It is scheduled to open in October 2022.

Gallery 16 is a contemporary art gallery located in the SoMa district of San Francisco, California. It is owned by the San Francisco-based painter Griff Williams, and opened in 1993. Artists who have exhibited there include Graham Gillmore, Tucker Nichols, Rex Ray, Alex Zecca, Shaun O'Dell, Josh Jefferson, Thomas Heinser, Libby Black, Margaret Kilgallen, Arturo Herrera, Michelle Grabner, and Mark Grotjahn. In 2010 it hosted an exhibition on Emigre magazine.

Aphotic is a seafood restaurant on Folsom Street in the SoMa neighborhood of San Francisco, California. It has one Michelin star. The restaurant opened in March 2023 and has announced its forthcoming closure in December 2024.

Blow Buddies was the largest gay sex club in San Francisco, California. Its building was constructed in 1953. It is zoned Service/Arts/Light Industrial (SALI) with a 30 ft height limit, so neither housing nor a hotel can be built here, but affordable housing may be constructed.

The Children's Creativity Museum is an interactive museum for children aged 2-12 years, located in Yerba Buena Gardens, in San Francisco, California. It offers workshops and exhibits that allow children to produce their own media through various interactive, creative processes: stop motion animation, programming robots, music video production, design challenges, art projects, and more. It has around 100,000 museum visitors annually (as of 2016/17). The Children's Creativity Museum is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, with annual revenues of around $2.1 million (as of 2016/17), including $600,000 of funding from the city of San Francisco.

South Park is a small urban park and eponymous neighborhood in the larger South of Market neighborhood of San Francisco, California, consisting of 0.85 acres (0.34 ha) of public ground. The neighborhood centers on the small, oval-shaped park and South Park Street, which encircles the park. South Park is bounded by Second, Third, Bryant, and Brannan streets.The two halves of the South Park Street re-join at both ends of the park and continue for short, straight stretches before terminating at Second Street on one end and Third Street on the other. This creates a curved line of buildings, which gives the street and park an unusual enclosed, urban character. Local businesses, restaurants and many apartment buildings dot the street. In January 2016, the park was closed temporarily in order to undergo a $2.8 million renovation, which will include comprehensive infrastructural and cosmetic upgrades.

The George R. Moscone Convention Center (pronounced ), popularly known as the Moscone Center, is the largest convention and exhibition complex in San Francisco, California. The complex consists of three main halls spread out across three blocks and 87 acres (35 ha) in the South of Market neighborhood. The convention center originally opened in 1981. It is named after San Francisco former mayor George Moscone, who was assassinated in November 1978.
