Lauriston, Victoria

Lauriston Reservoir is a reservoir in Victoria, Australia, with a maximum capacity of 19,800 megalitres. The dam that created it, located 9 km west of Kyneton along Lauriston Reservoir Road, was constructed from 1938 to 1941 and has a spillway that measures 77 metres. The site is a popular picnic ground as one can fish there (although not from the dam structure itself), and barbecue facilities are available. The reservoir is known to contain redfin perch, rainbow and brown trout, roach and cod. The picnic and BBQ area near the dam wall at the end of Lauriston Reservoir Road are now free.

Redesdale Junction was a railway station and junction for the Redesdale line near Kyneton in Victoria, Australia. The junction employed a station master, porter, assistant gatekeeper and ganger. A post office operated from the junction until the station master position was abolished in 1930. The junction was an important centre for the small community. In 1918 the station master was given a lavish farewell and a marble clock when it was announced he was being transferred.The sandstone used for the Shrine of Remembrance was quarried nearby and taken by train to Melbourne via Redesdale Junction.

The Little Coliban River, a minor inland perennial river of the north–central catchment, part of the Murray-Darling basin, is located in the lower Riverina bioregion and Central Highlands region of the Australian state of Victoria. The headwaters of the Little Coliban River rise on the northern slopes of the Great Dividing Range and descend to flow north into the Coliban River within the impounded Upper Coliban Reservoir.

It included the towns of Kyneton, Malmsbury, Taradale, Carlsruhe and Woodend. The Malmsbury Viaduct is a large brick and stone masonry arch bridge over the Coliban River at Malmsbury on the Bendigo Railway in Victoria Australia. It was erected as part of the Melbourne, Mount Alexander and Murray River Railway between 1858 and 1861, and was at the time the largest masonry arch railway bridge built in Victoria. Construction of the Bendigo line commenced under the Melbourne, Mount Alexander and Murray River Railway Company in 1858, but this private consortium met with financial difficulties when it was unable to raise sufficient funds, and was bought out by the Victorian colonial government in 1860 when it formed the Victorian Railways Department.The contract for the first stage of the line from Footscray to Sandhurst (now Bendigo), was let to Cornish and Bruce for £3,356,937.2s.2d ($6.714 million) with work commencing on 1 June 1858. Completion of the permanent way was to be by 31 July 1861.The design work was then taken over by Captain Andrew Clarke, R. E., Surveyor-General of Victoria, with the bridge designs completed by William Bryson CE, Head Draftsman, who was responsible for many of the large structures such including bridges and viaducts under the supervision of George Christian Darbyshire for the Victorian Railway. William O’Hara, Senior Draftsman with the railways department, also had experience in the design of masonry structures and so probably also contributed to the design of the viaduct.The bridge is over 100m long with five 18.3 metre spans, standing about 25 metres high. 132,000 cubic feet of bluestone for the bridge was quarried at the east end of Malmsbury and carted to the site by horse and drays.The foundation stone for the viaduct was laid on 25 October 1859 and the bridge was completed on 24 October 1860. It was listed on the Victorian Heritage Register in May 2000.A celebration of the 150th anniversary of this event was held in 2010 organised by the Malmsbury Historical Society.

Malmsbury railway station is located on the Deniliquin line in Victoria, Australia. It serves the town of Malmsbury, and it opened on 21 October 1862.In 1968, a carriage dock and a number of sidings were removed. Further sidings were removed in 1978.A large bluestone station building remains on the former northern platform, and a collection of shelter sheds on the southern platform. As part of the Regional Fast Rail project in 2006, the double-track line from Kyneton to Bendigo was converted to single-track, with the track on the Melbourne bound platform removed.Disused stations Taradale and Elphinstone are located between Malmsbury and Castlemaine. Demolished station Chewton was also located between Malmsbury and Castlemaine, while Redesdale Junction was located between Malmsbury and Kyneton.

Between 1977 and 1979, the Kyneton Provender Coy Siding and Watson's Siding were both abolished.In August 1990, a number of sidings, crossovers, signal posts and the goods shed and goods platform track were all abolished.The station was upgraded as part of the Regional Fast Rail project in 2005, with the platforms re-aligned, the manual interlocking frame and level crossing gates decommissioned, and remote-controlled computer-based signalling provided. Also as part of the project, the double-track line between Kyneton and Bendigo was singled.The disused Carlsruhe railway station is located between Kyneton and Woodend. A demolished station was located at Redesdale Junction, between Kyneton and Malmsbury.
