The 1992 Roermond earthquake occurred on 13 April, around 3:20 AM (1:20 UTC) with a moment magnitude of 5.3 and a maximum Mercalli intensity of VIII (Severe). Striking on the Peel Boundary Fault, a normal fault near Roermond, it was the strongest recorded earthquake in the Netherlands and in Northwestern Europe, and caused substantial damage to older buildings in the Netherlands and adjacent countries of Belgium and Germany. A series of aftershocks followed.

Montfort (Limburgish: Mofert) is a small city in the Dutch province of Limburg. Montfort has about 3,000 inhabitants. It lies about 8 km south of Roermond. It received city rights in 1271 and is renowned for the ruins of Castle Montfort, built in the 13th century. Until 1991, Montfort was a separate municipality. It then became part of Posterholt, which was later renamed Ambt Montfort.Since 1 January 2007, Montfort has been part of the municipality of Roerdalen.

Maasgouw (Dutch pronunciation: [maːsˈxʌu]) is a municipality in the Dutch province of Limburg. It is located on both banks of the river Meuse southwest of the city of Roermond. It was formed in a merger of the former municipalities of Heel, Maasbracht and Thorn on 1 January 2007. The municipality contains a number of towns and villages:

Beegden (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈbeːɣdə(n)]; Limburgish: Bieëgdje [ˈbiəɣdʒə]) is a village in the Dutch province of Limburg. It is a part of the municipality of Maasgouw, and is located about 6 km west of Roermond. Until 1991, Beegden was a separate municipality. During that year the village became part of the municipality of Heel en Panheel. In 2007 the municipality of Heel en Panheel, including Beegden, became part of the new municipality of Maasgouw. The town currently has about 1800 inhabitants. During the past few years tourism has developed in Beegden, the key attractions of the town are the church, the seventeenth-century house Huis Nederhoven and the St. Lindert windmill. The last underwent a major restoration in 2000 and can be visited free of charge every Wednesday and Saturday.

Ambt Montfort (Dutch pronunciation: [ɑmpt ˈmɔntfɔrt] ) is a former municipality in the Dutch province of Limburg. In 1991, the municipalities of Montfort, Posterholt, Reutje and Sint Odiliënberg merged. The original name of the merged municipality was "Posterholt", but it was changed in "Ambt Montfort" in 1994. On January 1, 2007, Ambt Montfort merged into the municipality of Roerdalen. Ambt Montfort is the birthplace of Formula One driver Jos Verstappen.

From 2008 till 2018 it was awarded with two stars. GaultMillau awarded the restaurant 17.0 points (out of 20).The restaurant is a member of Alliance Gastronomique Néerlandaise, a Dutch/Belgian culinary association of quality restaurants and the Confrérie de la Chaîne des Rôtisseurs.

Maasbracht (Dutch: [maːzˈbrɑxt] ; Limburgish: Brach [ˈbʀɑx]) is a town in the southeastern Netherlands. It was a separate municipality until 1 January 2007, when it became a part of the new municipality of Maasgouw.

Echt (Dutch: [ɛxt] ; Limburgish: Ech [ˈæx]) is a city in the Dutch municipality of Echt-Susteren in the province of Limburg, Netherlands. It was a municipality itself until it merged with the municipality of Susteren on 1 January 2003. The municipality of Echt had about 19,300 inhabitants and an area of about 75,13 square km.
