Thomas Cole Mountain

The Blackhead Mountains range is located near the northern end of the Catskill Mountains, in Greene County, New York, United States, where it divides the towns of Windham and Jewett. The three named peaks in the range — Thomas Cole Mountain (3,940 feet; 1,201 m), Black Dome (3,980 feet; 1,213 m), and Blackhead Mountain (also in the 3,940-foot range) — are the fourth-, third-, and fifth-highest peaks in the Catskills, respectively. The gap between Thomas Cole and Black Dome is, at 3,700 feet, the highest in the Catskills. To the west of Thomas Cole are two lesser, officially unnamed summits known locally as Camel's Hump (3,520 feet; 1,073 m) and Caudal (3,320 feet; 1,012 m). All except Blackhead can be climbed via the popular Black Dome Range Trail; a short spur from that trail leads to the Escarpment Trail atop Blackhead. The range's distinctive rooster-comb profile is a visual signature of the Catskills. It can be easily seen from as far north as Albany and its suburbs, if there are views to the south to the range. Van Loan Hill is located west of the Blackhead Mountains.

The Catskill Escarpment, often referred to locally as just the Escarpment or the Great Wall of Manitou, and known as the Catskill Front to geologists, is the range forming the northeastern corner of the Catskill Mountains in Greene and Ulster counties in the U.S. state of New York. It rises very abruptly from the Hudson Valley to summits above 3,000 feet (910 m) in elevation, including three of the Catskill High Peaks, with almost no foothills. The plateau to the south and west averages 2,000 feet (610 m) above sea level. The Escarpment was the first area of the Catskills to attract the interest of European settlers. Botanist John Bartram wrote a widely read account of an expedition there prior to independence, and a century later the North-South Lake area he had visited became home to a number of exclusive resorts, including the Catskill Mountain House. Views of it inspired Thomas Cole and other painters of the Hudson River School, the first art movement in the United States. Today much of it is New York State Forest Preserve within the Catskill Park, and a popular place for hiking, camping and other outdoor recreation.

Burnt Knob is a mountain in Greene County, New York. It is located in the Catskill Mountains southeast of South Durham. Acra Point is located east-southeast, and Blackhead is located south-southeast of Burnt Knob.

East Jewett is a hamlet in Greene County, New York, United States. The community is 2.8 miles (4.5 km) north of Tannersville. East Jewett had a post office from January 31, 1829, until early 2000; it still has its own ZIP code, 12424.

Acra Point is a mountain in Greene County, New York. It is located in the Catskill Mountains south of South Durham. Burnt Knob is located west-northwest, and Blackhead is located south of Acra Point.

Windham High Peak is a mountain located in Greene County, New York. The mountain is part of the Catskill Mountains. Windham High Peak stands within the watershed of the Hudson River, which drains into New York Bay. The south and northwest sides of Windham drain into Batavia Kill, and thence into Schoharie Creek, the Mohawk River, and the Hudson River. The northeast side of Windham drains into Bowery Creek, thence into Catskill Creek, and the Hudson River more directly. And the southeast side drains via Plattekill Creek into Esopus Creek, a still lower Hudson tributary. The summit trijunction of the divides between these watersheds demarcated, until at least 1629, the traditional boundary tripoint of Mohawk, Mohican, and Delaware territory, respectively. Star Rock is a pillar in Greene County, New York. It is located in the Catskill Mountains north of Tannersville. Parker Mountain is located west-southwest of Star Rock.

All Souls Church is a historic Episcopal church located at Tannersville in Greene County, New York. It was built in 1894 as a small stone chapel in the Gothic Revival style. It was subsequently enlarged in the 1910s with the enlargement of the chancel and addition of transepts. It features a large square bell tower at the southwest corner that also serves as the principal entrance.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1993.
