Blackhead Mountains

Thomas Cole Mountain is a mountain in Greene County, New York. The mountain is named after the artist Thomas Cole (1801–1848), who lived in the area and is regarded as the founder of the Hudson River School. Thomas Cole Mountain is part of the Blackhead range, and is the fourth highest peak of the broader Catskill Mountains. Thomas Cole is flanked to the east by Black Dome (3,990 feet or 1,220 metres), and to the west by Camel's Hump (3,530 feet or 1,080 metres). Thomas Cole Mountain stands within the watershed of Schoharie Creek, which drains into the Mohawk River, the Hudson River, and into New York Bay. The south side of Thomas Cole drains into East Kill, and thence into Schoharie Creek. The north side of Thomas Cole drains into Batavia Kill, and thence into Schoharie Creek. Thomas Cole Mountain is within New York's Catskill Park.

Greene County is a county located in the U.S. state of New York. As of the 2020 census, the population was 47,931. Its county seat is Catskill. The county's name is in honor of the American Revolutionary War general Nathanael Greene.

The north side of Blackhead drains into the headwaters of Batavia Kill, and thence into Schoharie Creek. The east side of Blackhead drains into Trout Brook, thence into Shingle Kill, Catskill Creek, and the Hudson River. Blackhead is within New York's Catskill Park. The Long Path, a 350-mile (560 km) long-distance hiking trail from New York City to Albany, is contiguous with the Escarpment Trail.

The Catskill Escarpment, often referred to locally as just the Escarpment or the Great Wall of Manitou, and known as the Catskill Front to geologists, is the range forming the northeastern corner of the Catskill Mountains in Greene and Ulster counties in the U.S. state of New York. It rises very abruptly from the Hudson Valley to summits above 3,000 feet (910 m) in elevation, including three of the Catskill High Peaks, with almost no foothills. The plateau to the south and west averages 2,000 feet (610 m) above sea level. The Escarpment was the first area of the Catskills to attract the interest of European settlers. Botanist John Bartram wrote a widely read account of an expedition there prior to independence, and a century later the North-South Lake area he had visited became home to a number of exclusive resorts, including the Catskill Mountain House. Views of it inspired Thomas Cole and other painters of the Hudson River School, the first art movement in the United States. Today much of it is New York State Forest Preserve within the Catskill Park, and a popular place for hiking, camping and other outdoor recreation.

Burnt Knob is a mountain in Greene County, New York. It is located in the Catskill Mountains southeast of South Durham. Acra Point is located east-southeast, and Blackhead is located south-southeast of Burnt Knob.

Acra Point is a mountain in Greene County, New York. It is located in the Catskill Mountains south of South Durham. Burnt Knob is located west-northwest, and Blackhead is located south of Acra Point.

Star Rock is a pillar in Greene County, New York. It is located in the Catskill Mountains north of Tannersville. Parker Mountain is located west-southwest of Star Rock.

All Souls Church is a historic Episcopal church located at Tannersville in Greene County, New York. It was built in 1894 as a small stone chapel in the Gothic Revival style. It was subsequently enlarged in the 1910s with the enlargement of the chancel and addition of transepts. It features a large square bell tower at the southwest corner that also serves as the principal entrance.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1993.

Hathaway, also known as V. Everit Macy and Edith Carpenter Macy Estate, is a historic estate house located at Tannersville in Greene County, New York. The house was built in 1907 and designed by architects Delano & Aldrich. It is a large, two story rectangular residence surmounted by a hipped roof with deep overhanging eaves and exposed rafters. It is constructed of concrete block coated in stucco. Also on the property are a carriage house, solarium, garage, and shed. A fishing cabin was once situated on the pond of the property, but is no longer standing. Hathaway was previously run as a Bed and Breakfast lodge, with prominent Broadway actress Maude Adams among its guests. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2008.
