All Saints Church, Marple

Marple Junction (grid reference SJ961884) is the name of the canal junction where the Macclesfield Canal terminates and meets the Peak Forest Canal at Marple, Greater Manchester, England. The water of the two canal companies was kept apart by a stop lock in the narrows at the end of the later Macclesfield Canal, but this has long since been de-gated and the two canals run at the same level.

Hawk Green is a suburb of Marple, Greater Manchester, England, on the Macclesfield Canal around a traditional village green. High Lane is to the south and Turf Lea to the east. Just to the north of the centre of Hawk Green is Goyt Mill, a former cotton mill that now houses various businesses and recreational facilities, including a large indoor climbing wall. It was once home to the Frost family who, in 1823, except for their youngest daughter, Annie, died in a fire close to it. Charles Frost was a fantasy novelist.

Marple is a town in the Metropolitan Borough of Stockport, Greater Manchester, England. It is on the River Goyt, 9 miles (14 km) south-east of Manchester, 9 miles (14 km) north of Macclesfield and 4 miles (6 km) south-east of Stockport. In 2011, it had a population of 23,686. Within the boundaries of the historic county of Cheshire, the town lies along the Peak Forest Canal which contains the Marple Lock Flight and Marple Aqueduct. The Roman Lakes, to the south-east of the town centre, attracts anglers and walkers. The town is served by two railway stations: Marple and Rose Hill Marple, providing access to the rail network in Greater Manchester and beyond. It is also close to the Middlewood Way, a shared use path following the former Macclesfield, Bollington and Marple Railway line south from Rose Hill to Macclesfield.

Mellor Mill, also known as Bottom's Mill, was a six-story cotton mill in Marple, Greater Manchester built by Samuel Oldknow in 1793. This was a six-storey, 42-foot (13 m) wide and 210-foot (64 m) long mill with additional three-storey wings making it 400 feet (120 m) in all. The mill was built for Samuel Oldknow and used to spin coarse counts. It was originally driven by the Wellington water wheel. The River Goyt, and with it the then county boundary between Derbyshire and Cheshire was diverted and a weir built, the leat fed a millpond that in later times was named the Roman Lakes. This in turn fed a second mill pond along with water from reservoir in Linnet Clough. Supplementary power was provided by a second exterior wheel known as the Waterloo wheel. The Mill reached its peak production in 1804, when 10,080 spindles were operating and around 550 people were employed. It was destroyed by fire in 1892.

Marple railway station in Marple, Greater Manchester, England, is on the Hope Valley Line 8.9 miles (14.3 km) south-east of Manchester Piccadilly. The station, opened in 1865 by the Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway, was demolished and rebuilt in 1970. It is managed and served by Northern Trains, who provide two trains per hour in each direction. The other station in Marple is Rose Hill Marple, on a spur of the Hope Valley Line which, until 1970, continued towards Macclesfield.

The Church of St Martin is a 19th-century church in Marple, Greater Manchester, England (grid reference SJ963894). It was designed by J. D. Sedding for Maria Anne Hudson (1819–1906), who lived in nearby Brabyns Hall, and was built between 1869 and 1870. The north chapel and aisle were added later by Henry Wilson, in 1895–96 and 1909 respectively. The stained glass in the windows in the chancel are by the Morris company with designs by Edward Burne-Jones, Dante Gabriel Rossetti, Ford Madox Brown and William Morris. The organ from 1870 is by Henry Willis. On 11 October 1985, it was designated a Grade II* listed building. To the rear is a former schoolroom and schoolmaster's house, now a parish hall and private house, designed by Sedding's brother Edmund Sedding and separately listed at Grade II.

The Norfolk Arms (officially listed as Norfolk Arms and former National Westminster Bank) is a Grade II listed public house on Town Street in Marple Bridge, a district of Marple in the Metropolitan Borough of Stockport, Greater Manchester, England. Dating from the early 19th century, it appears on late 19th and early 20th‑century Ordnance Survey maps as an unnamed pub. The building was listed in 1967 and included in the Marple Bridge conservation area in 1974. The adjoining former bank premises were already in restaurant use by 2012 and remain so. The pub stands facing Marple Bridge, the Grade II listed bridge that gives the settlement its name.

Marple Lock Flight is a flight of sixteen canal locks, situated on the Peak Forest Canal in Marple, a suburb of Stockport.

Rose Hill Marple railway station is in Marple in the Metropolitan Borough of Stockport, England. The station, which opened in 1869, is the last surviving stop on the former Macclesfield, Bollington and Marple Railway (MB&MR). It is connected via a short branch to the Hope Valley Line. The original line to Macclesfield closed in January 1970, leaving Rose Hill Marple as the terminus of the route. Daily services run to Manchester Piccadilly, via the Hyde loop; there is no service on Sundays. The station provides access to the Middlewood Way, which follows the preserved route of the disused MB&MR.

Turf Lea is a hamlet located at the end of The Ridge, above Marple, in the Metropolitan Borough of Stockport, Greater Manchester, UK. Nearby is Wybersley Hall, where the author Christopher Isherwood was born.

Marple Bridge is a district of Marple in the Metropolitan Borough of Stockport, Greater Manchester, England, on the River Goyt, which runs through the centre of the village. Historically part of the civil parish of Glossop, Derbyshire, it was included in the new parish of Ludworth and Chisworth in 1866. Ludworth became a separate parish in 1896 and was abolished in 1936, when the former parish was transferred to Cheshire and amalgamated into Marple Urban District. In 1974, the urban district was abolished and Marple Bridge became part of the Metropolitan Borough of Stockport in the county of Greater Manchester. It shares borders with Mellor, Marple, Compstall, New Mills, Strines, Mill Brow and Chisworth. It is in the ecclesiastical parish of Mellor; the parish church of St. Thomas stands several hundred feet higher than the village, overlooking Greater Manchester and Cheshire.
