Historic Brookhaven

Brookhaven is a city in the northeastern suburbs of Atlanta that is located in western DeKalb County, Georgia, United States, directly northeast of Atlanta. On July 31, 2012, Brookhaven was approved in a referendum to become DeKalb County's 11th city. Incorporation officially took place on December 17, 2012, on which date municipal operations commenced. With a population of around 55,366 as of 2021, it is the largest city in DeKalb County. The new city stretches over 12 square miles (31 km2).

Town Brookhaven is a 600,000-square-foot (56,000 m2) mixed-use district developed by the Sembler Company, located on a 54-acre site at Peachtree Road and Town Boulevard (formerly Cross Keys Drive) in Brookhaven, Georgia, adjacent to Oglethorpe University. Major commercial tenants include Cobb Theatres Cine'bistro (a luxury dinner-and-a-movie theatre), Costco, Marshalls, an LA Fitness gym, and a Publix supermarket. In addition, there are more than 1,500 residential units and 150,000 square feet (14,000 m2) of office space in the complex.

The Brookhaven Historic District in Atlanta, Georgia is a 300 acres (120 ha) historic district which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986. The listing included 202 contributing buildings and two contributing structures.It is located east of Peachtree-Dunwoody Road and north and east of Peachtree Road. It spans across the border of DeKalb County and Fulton County. It is a residential area laid out and developed beginning in 1910.

The Rheumatology Research Foundation funds rheumatology research and training in the United States. The Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization dedicated to improving the health of people living with rheumatic disease. Cross Keys High School is a public high school in Georgia, United States which opened in 1958. It is located at 1626 North Druid Hills Road NE in the city of Brookhaven, near Atlanta, on the western edge of DeKalb County. It serves students from the Buford Highway Corridor in Brookhaven, Chamblee, and Doraville in the DeKalb County School System.

Oglethorpe University is a private college in Brookhaven, Georgia. It was chartered in 1835 and named in honor of General James Edward Oglethorpe, founder of the Colony of Georgia.

The International Time Capsule Society (ITCS) is an organization devoted to the subject of time capsules. Founded in 1990 at Oglethorpe University (following the lead of a precursor group established in 1937), the ITCS tracks the creation and status of time capsules in countries around the world.

The Crypt of Civilization is an impenetrable airtight chamber, built between 1937 and 1940, at the Oglethorpe University in Brookhaven, Georgia. The 2,000-cubic-foot (57 m3) repository is meant not to be opened before 8113 CE and contains numerous artifacts and sound recordings that illustrate civilization and human development to the 20th century. Classic literature and religious texts were also deposited, as well as items showing the extent of scientific progress to 1939. Thornwell Jacobs, the initiator of the project, was inspired by the opening of Egyptian pyramids and wanted to create a repository of everyday 1930s objects and a record of human knowledge over the preceding 6000 years. The Guinness Book of Records declared the Crypt to be the first genuine attempt to permanently preserve a record of 20th century culture for people of thousands of years into the future.

CityPlace at Buckhead was an approved residential complex that planned to include eight 493 ft (150m), tall, 42 floor, skyscrapers and a 27 floor, 353 ft (108m) tall building, in Atlanta, Georgia, United States. It was planned to take up 19.5 acres (79,000 m2), have almost 5,000,000 square feet (460,000 m2) of residential space and 95,000 square feet (8,800 m2) of retail space, and 3,800 units. It was approved July 27, 2006, and was being designed by Arquitectonica. In October 2009 the property was foreclosed on and returned to the lender, Wells Fargo Bank. As of April 2011 the property was back up for sale.

Northeast Plaza is a 466,000-square-foot (43,300 m2) strip mall-style shopping center on Buford Highway in Brookhaven, Georgia just east of the Buckhead area of Atlanta. The center was built in late 1957 and renovated in 1986. In the mid-1980s it ranked as the 12th largest retail center in the Atlanta area.In the mid-1980s the center was re-branded "Fashion Square" but this was later dropped in favor of the original Northeast Plaza name. In 2000, major tenants included a Publix supermarket, a 12-screen theater, China Cabinet and The Avenue. At that time, 145,000 square feet (13,500 m2) of the center's space was vacant, and new owners EIG Operating Partnership, who bought the center for $33 million, hoped to fill those vacancies with high-end antique stores and galleries.In 2012 the center was primarily occupied by discount and ethnic retailers. The largest single space, 56,000 sq. ft., once a J.C. Penney catalog store, then a Publix, was until 2011 the Mercado del Pueblo Hispanic supermarket. The vacant unit was to be acquired by G-Mart International Foods, a retailer aiming at the Korean-American and other ethnic markets. As of January 2013, the store was operating under the "Mercado del Pueblo" branding. Other tenants include Family Dollar, Dollar Tree, dd's Discounts, a Goodwill Industries store, Funtime Bowl, Metro Pawn Shop, and Ryan's cafeteria. Numerous ethnic restaurants are located in the center including Bangladeshi, Ethiopian, Mexican and Peruvian, as are a bowling alley, St. Joseph's Mercy Clinic, and the Atlanta Ballroom nightclub.

Salesforce Tower Atlanta is a 425 ft (130m) tall skyscraper in Atlanta, Georgia. It was completed in 1986 and has 34 floors. Smallwood, Reynolds, Stewart, Stewart & Associates, Inc. designed the building, which is tied with 1100 Peachtree as the 25th tallest building in Atlanta. A second tower with the same profile, but boasting ten additional floors, and a four-hundred-room hotel were originally planned for the surrounding site but never built.The building entry is undergoing renovations. Renovations are to begin August 1, 2017.On October 17, 2018 Salesforce.com announced plans to occupy 3 additional floors. This will bring their total occupancy to 7 floors thus earning Salesforce naming rights to the tower. Other office occupants include RentPath, Rubicon, SAS Institute, Ademco, Soltech, iFOLIO, and Carat.

Park Avenue Condominiums is a 486 ft (148m) tall skyscraper in Atlanta, Georgia. It was constructed from 1998 to 2000 and has 44 floors. Burt Hill Kosar Rittelmann Associates designed the building, which is the 16th tallest in Atlanta and was the tallest all residential tower until TWELVE Centennial Park passed it in 2007.
