The Miami Canal, or C-6 Canal, flows from Lake Okeechobee in the U.S. state of Florida to its terminus at the Miami River, which flows through downtown Miami. The canal flows in a south and southeasterly direction for approximately 77 miles, and passes through three counties: Broward, Palm Beach, and Miami-Dade. It was constructed in the early part of the 20th century to drain the Everglades Agricultural Area (EAA). Removing the canal was proposed as part of the Restoration of the Everglades.

Everglades High School is a public school located in Miramar, Florida, United States. The school serves approximately 2,425 students from Miramar and Pembroke Pines in grades 9 through 12. The current school hours are from 7:40 a.m. to 2:40 p.m. The most recent principal was Haleh Darbar, who was promoted effective February 1, 2022. In the 2007–08 school year due to overpopulation, another high school was constructed in Pembroke Pines, Florida, West Broward High School to resolve the overcrowding issue. Everglades High currently has an FCAT school grade of an "A" for the 2017–18 Academic School Year. Everglades has a student to teacher ratio of 22:1, above the state average of 15:1.

Saint Edward Catholic Church in Pembroke Pines, Florida, was established in 1995 and constructed in 1999. Part of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Miami, this charismatic parish is located in western Broward County. Located on 190th Avenue, it was the first church ever built west of Interstate 75 in Broward County and in the City of Pembroke Pines.

West Broward High School is a secondary school located in Pembroke Pines, Florida serving students in grades 9 through 12. The school is a part of the Broward County Public Schools district. West Broward High has an FCAT school grade of "A" for the 2009–2010 academic year.

Somerset Academy is a high school located in Pembroke Pines, Florida which teaches grades K-12. The school is operated by Academica, an education management organization, on behalf of Somerset Academy Inc., a charter management organization.

American Dream Miami is a proposed megamall and entertainment complex planned to be built in Miami-Dade County, United States. If completed, it would become the largest shopping mall in North America. The project shares its branding with American Dream Meadowlands in New Jersey; the second largest mall in the USA. The mall is being developed by the Triple Five Group, who own the 3 largest malls in North America: The Mall of America, the West Edmonton Mall, and the American Dream Meadowlands. The mall is slated to contain a large indoor water park and ice rink.

Pennsuco is a former rural community in Miami-Dade County, Florida, along the Miami Canal and U.S. Route 27. It was established in 1920 by the Pennsylvania Sugar Company, which built a sugar cane plantation and sugar mill, and a self-contained community housing employees and their families. The sugar operation failed by 1925, largely due to a series of floods and killing frosts which ruined crops; the land was then adapted for regular truck farming until 1931, when the company ended operations at the site. A post office operated here until 1933, and the area continued as a farming community. Today the area has become suburban, with the northern portion annexed by Hialeah Gardens and the southern portion industrialized and unpopulated. Virtually all of Pennsuco's old structures are no longer standing, but the name survives with Pennsuco Industrial Park and the Pennsuco Canal.

The Hollywood Sportatorium was an indoor arena in Pembroke Pines, Florida (originally Hollywood), located at 17171 Pines Boulevard (originally 16661 West Hollywood Boulevard). The Sportatorium was 26 miles (42 km) from downtown Miami and 23 miles (37 km) from downtown Fort Lauderdale. During its 18 years of operation, it was the only venue of its kind in heavily populated South Florida.

The Miami-Hollywood Motorsports Park was an auto racing complex in Pembroke Pines, Florida. Opened in March 1966, it was located east of the Hollywood Sportatorium near the corner of 172nd Avenue and what was then Hollywood Boulevard (now Pines Boulevard). The speedway featured a quarter-mile (0.4 km) dragstrip as well as an 0.375 mile (0.6 km) oval track. It went through many name changes over its long history, including Miami Speedway, Miami Speedway Park, Miami Dragway, Miami-Hollywood Speedway, and others.

The Broward Correctional Institution (BCI) was a correctional facility located in the former Country Estates CDP and in Southwest Ranches, Florida, operated by the Florida Department of Corrections. The Region IV Correctional Facility Office is located on the grounds of Broward Correctional Institution in the former Country Estates CDP. The prison was in proximity to Pembroke Pines. It was located along Sheridan Street, near U.S. Route 27.The facility was opened in 1977 to house a male inmate population. However, in its history the prison has had only female inmates. It housed female death row inmates until February 2003 when the female death row was moved to Lowell Annex. The Broward Correctional Institution served as a reception center for female inmates. As of 2011, a staff of approximately 272 individuals serviced the facility. As of 2012 624 prisoners, all female, were housed there. The facility was closed in 2012. Closure was scheduled for May 1 of that year. The Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel said "BCI was determined to have a relatively low population and a high per diem inmate cost of $111.48." ($145.02 when adjusted for inflation)

Barbara Goleman Senior High School is a secondary school located at 14100 NW 89th Ave in Miami Lakes, Florida; its principal is Manuel Sanchez. Goleman is part of Miami-Dade County Public Schools Region I, and is school number 7751.The school is named after Barbara Goleman, the 1969 National Teacher of the Year and the only Miami-Dade County Public School teacher to receive this title.Due to the construction of a new senior high school, Hialeah Gardens High School (located in nearby Hialeah Gardens), Barbara Goleman welcomed sophomores-to-be from American Senior High for the 2008-2009 school year, replacing a portion of the class of 2011, which was transferred to the new school.

Palm Springs North is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. It is part of the Miami metropolitan area of South Florida. The population was 5,030 at the 2020 census.
