Windlestone Hall is a mid-16th century Elizabethan country house, heavily rebuilt in 1821 to form a Greek revival stately home, situated near Rushyford, County Durham, England. The Hall sits within 400 acres of designed parkland. It is a Grade II* Listed building. As of 2022 it is back in private family ownership, with the surrounding estate maintained and conserved by a dedicated heritage charitable trust.

It is situated between Bishop Auckland and Spennymoor. It sits on top of a hill which is one of the highest points in County Durham, and is the location of an observatory built for Thomas Wright, who was the first person to suggest that the Milky Way consisted of a flattened disk of stars. The observatory is known today as "Wright's Folly".

Coundon is an old mining village and former civil parish in the County Durham district, in the ceremonial county of Durham, England. The Boldon Book mentions a mine in Coundon in the twelfth century. In 2001 it had a population of 2611. In 2011 the ward had a population of 7139.

Ferryhill School (formerly Ferryhill Business And Enterprise College and before that Ferryhill Comprehensive School) is a coeducational secondary school located in Ferryhill, County Durham, England. The school specialises in Business and Enterprise. Previously a community school administered by Durham County Council, in May 2018 Ferryhill Business And Enterprise College converted to academy status. The school is now sponsored by, and hosts, the Eden Learning Trust.

Middlestone Moor is a village in County Durham, England. It is situated to the south west of Spennymoor - within the town council's limits. On 12 February 2007, there was a major gas leak causing homes in Spennymoor, Crook, Howden-Le-Wear, and some in the Coundon area, to lose their gas supply. 30 houses in Westerton Close were evacuated and their inhabitants put into overnight accommodation.It is home to local football club, Middlestone Moor Masons Arms FC, who play from Middlestone Moor Community Centre playing fields/the South Durham Bowl, running from the Masons Arms public house. The club runs a Saturday team that competes in the 'Crook and District League', and a Sunday side competing in the 'Spennymoor Sunday League'. The club has achieved Chartered Standard status from the Football Association. During the annual 'Pups Vs. Veterans' football match in 2006, there was the second recorded occurrence of the horrific football injury Boothy Knee. There is also a working men's club and a pub called the Binchester in the village.
