Whitworth Park Academy

Tudhoe Grange is a suburb of Spennymoor, in County Durham, in England. Originally it was just a couple of farms on the edge of Tudhoe township, swallowed up as Spennymoor expanded through the 19th and 20th centuries, especially by housing for workers at Tudhoe Iron Works. The area included Tudhoe Grange School, formally Tudhoe Grange Comprehensive School. After the 100 year anniversary of its opening, Tudhoe Grange School closed in September 2012. Present students joined and moved sites to Spennymoor School, where the newly refurbished site was named as Whitworth Park School and Sixth Form College in 2012. The school is now named Whitworth Park Academy.

Middlestone Moor is a village in County Durham, England. It is situated to the south west of Spennymoor - within the town council's limits. On 12 February 2007, there was a major gas leak causing homes in Spennymoor, Crook, Howden-Le-Wear, and some in the Coundon area, to lose their gas supply. 30 houses in Westerton Close were evacuated and their inhabitants put into overnight accommodation.It is home to local football club, Middlestone Moor Masons Arms FC, who play from Middlestone Moor Community Centre playing fields/the South Durham Bowl, running from the Masons Arms public house. The club runs a Saturday team that competes in the 'Crook and District League', and a Sunday side competing in the 'Spennymoor Sunday League'. The club has achieved Chartered Standard status from the Football Association. During the annual 'Pups Vs. Veterans' football match in 2006, there was the second recorded occurrence of the horrific football injury Boothy Knee. There is also a working men's club and a pub called the Binchester in the village.

Spennymoor Town Football Club is a football club based in Spennymoor, County Durham, England. They currently compete in the National League North, the sixth tier of English football, and play their home matches at the Brewery Field. The club began playing in the Northern League in 1931–32 as Evenwood Town, reaching the first round of the FA Cup in the 1956–57 season. In 2005, the club merged with Spennymoor United, who had folded earlier that year, and collectively changed their name to Spennymoor Town.

Whitworth was a civil parish in County Durham, in England, centred on Whitworth Hall. It was one of several parishes abolished in 1937 to create the parish of Spennymoor. Whitworth Hall (now a hotel) is on the road between Spennymoor and Brancepeth, and is close to Tudhoe. The house was in former times the home of the Shafto family, whose most famous member (from the 18th century) was Bobby Shafto, subject of a famous English nursery rhyme.

Whitworth Hall which stands in Whitworth Hall Country Park, near Spennymoor, County Durham England, is a country house, formerly the home of the Shafto family and now a hotel. It is a listed building. Descendants of the Shafto family of Shafto Crag, Northumberland, served as Aldermen, Mayors and Sheriffs of Newcastle upon Tyne in the 16th and 17th centuries. In 1652 Mark Shafto, Recorder of Newcastle, purchased the manor of Whitworth. His son Robert, knighted in 1670 was Recorder from 1660 and his grandson was High Sheriff of Durham in 1709. Two sons of Mark Shafto junior represented Durham City in Parliament: Robert Shafto 1712/3 and 1727/30 and John Shafto 1729-42. John was the father of Robert Shafto, better known as Bobby Shaftoe, who vastly increased the family fortune by his marriage in 1774 to Anne Duncombe of Duncombe Park. Their son Robert Eden Duncombe Shafto, (also Member of Parliament for Durham City and later High Sheriff in 1842), who married Catherine Eden, daughter of Sir John Eden Bt of Windlestone Hall, replaced the old manor house with a new mansion in 1845. The house was substantially destroyed by fire and all that now remains of the 1845 rebuild is the detached library wing. The present two-storey seven-bayed house dates from the rebuild of about 1900. Branches of the Shafto family had seats at Bavington Hall, Beamish Hall and Windlestone Hall. Whitworth Hall Hotel & Deer Park is now privately owned and operated as a hotel and wedding venue.

Whitworth Hall Country Park is a parkland based set in 73 acres (300,000 m2) 8 miles (13 km) from Durham in England, which rests on the outskirts of the town of Spennymoor in County Durham. The park includes Whitworth Hall, a Grade II listed stately mansion (the ancestral home of Bobby Shafto an 18th-century MP) hotel, deer park, lake and Shafto's Inn. The park includes a Victorian walled garden which contains England's most northerly vineyard. The current building was rebuilt in the 19th century.

Kirk Merrington is a village in County Durham, in England. It is situated between the towns of Bishop Auckland and Ferryhill. It is part of the Spennymoor township.

The Diocese of Durham is a Church of England diocese, based in Durham, and covering the historic county of Durham (and therefore including the part of Tyne and Wear south of the River Tyne, and excluding southern Teesdale). It was created in AD 635 as the Diocese of Lindisfarne. The cathedral is Durham Cathedral and the bishop is the Bishop of Durham who used to live at Auckland Castle, Bishop Auckland, and still has his office there. The diocese's administrative centre, the Diocesan Office, is located at Cuthbert House, Stonebridge just outside Durham City. This was opened in 2015.
