St. Mary's Episcopal Church (Newton Lower Falls, Massachusetts)

The Newton Lower Falls Historic District encompasses the historic colonial village center of Newton Lower Falls, on the west side of Newton, Massachusetts. This area lies north of Washington Street, along Concord and Grove Streets, between Washington and Hagar Streets. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.The "lower falls" of the Charles River were an important geographic even before colonial days, because a Native American path traversed the area (roughly along the Washington Street alignment). In the 17th century the waterpower of the falls was already being harnessed by English colonists for the operation of gristmills and sawmills. Permanent residency on the Newton side of the river did not begin until the early 18th century, when an iron works was established. The oldest surviving house in the area is at 2345 Washington Street, built c. 1755. The residential portion of the village developed on the rise above the river, where St. Mary's Episcopal Church was built c. 1813; it is separately listed on the National Register. Adjacent to the church, a number of Greek Revival houses were built on Grove Street during the 1830s and 1840s, the height of the area's economically significant paper industry. The last significant construction in the district was the hose house (fire station) at 677 Grove Street in 1900.The historic portion of the village, once much larger, suffered a significant decline in the 20th century. Fashionable houses belonging to mill owners were demolished, as were more modest residences of mill workers, in some cases to make way for the construction of nearby Massachusetts Route 128. This intrusion also resulted in the destruction of a church and schools.

The Ware Paper Mill is a historic mill building at 2276 Washington Street in Newton, Massachusetts. Built in 1790, it is a remnant of the first paper mill to be built on the banks of the Charles River. The 1+1⁄2-story stone building was built by John Ware, a veteran of the American Revolutionary War, and was in use for paper production until 1938. A brick addition was added to the rear of the building in the 19th century; its interior was effectively stripped in the 1973.The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.

The Eaton-Moulton Mill is a historic industrial building at 37 Walnut Street in the Wellesley Lower Falls village of Wellesley, Massachusetts. The 2+1⁄2-story granite mill building was built c. 1853 by the firm of Reuben Ware and William Clark, manufacturers of papermaking machinery. The building is distinctive for its use of stone, a relatively uncommon construction material in this area. The Lower Falls area of Wellesley and Newton developed as a papermaking center in the 18th century, and began transitioning from handmade methods to machine methods producing rolls of paper in the 1830s. Ware and Clark were at the forefront of this transition, establishing a machine shop in 1832 where the manufactured equipment for this new process. This building was built for them in 1853, and continued under Eaton and Moulton and other owners until papermaking declined. The building now houses commercial office space.The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.

Newton Lower Falls, Massachusetts is one of the thirteen villages within the city of Newton in Middlesex County, Massachusetts, United States. The commercial area extends across the river into Wellesley, Massachusetts, where it is known as Wellesley Lower Falls, where a majority of the retail businesses are. The Charles River drops 18 feet over less than a quarter-mile at Lower Falls. A series of three small dams with fish ladders are located along the drop. The primary roads through the village of Lower Falls are Grove Street, Washington Street (Route 16), and Concord Street. The area is now a suburban neighborhood centered on the park at the old Hamilton elementary school (now Lower Falls Community Center), and bordered on the northwest by the Charles River and the Leo J. Martin public golf course. The historic heart of the Lower Falls village, St. Mary's Episcopal Church, and the adjacent residential area on Grove Street, are listed on the National Register of Historic Places as the Newton Lower Falls Historic District.

Weston Ski Track (Officially known as the Leo J. Martin Ski Track) is a cross-country ski and snowshoeing area located in Weston, Massachusetts. The facility is managed by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation and is situated along the Charles River, approximately 13 miles west of downtown Boston, Massachusetts.The ski track, open seasonally (typically December through March), provides a 2 kilometer lit ski loop with snowmaking, along with an additional 13 kilometers of groomed trails which are dependent on natural snowfall. In the warmer months, the land is used as the Leo J. Martin Golf Course.Trails at Weston Ski Track are groomed for both skate and classic techniques. The facility also serves as the home of the Eastern Massachusetts Bill Koch League junior Nordic ski program, in addition to a number of local high school, collegiate, and masters nordic ski teams in the surrounding region. Races geared towards disabled skiers and veterans have been hosted at the center, as a hub for adaptive skiing in the area. Skiers can walk across a bridge to access additional groomed trails within the town of Newton, MA. Lessons and equipment rentals are available on-site, including an indoor ski center with locker room facilities. Trails are maintained by a PistenBulley 100 groomer and LED lighting provides the opportunity for night skiing.

Riverside station is a Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) Green Line light rail station located in the Auburndale village of Newton, Massachusetts. It is the western terminal of the Green Line D branch service. The station is located near the interchange of Interstate 95 (Route 128) and the Massachusetts Turnpike (I-90) and serves as a regional park and ride station. West of the station is Riverside Yard, the main maintenance facility and largest storage yard for the Green Line. The station is fully accessible.

Newton-Wellesley Hospital (NWH) is a community teaching medical center located in Newton, Massachusetts on Washington Street. It is affiliated with Tufts University School of Medicine and Harvard Medical School. Founded in 1881, part of its campus is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as the Newton Cottage Hospital Historic District. It is a member of Mass General Brigham, a network founded by Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital. The hospital offers a range of medical, surgical, and specialty care, including maternity services, a 24-hour emergency department, and orthopedic, critical care, and oncology inpatient units.

Wellesley Farms station is an MBTA Commuter Rail station in Wellesley, Massachusetts. It serves the Framingham/Worcester Line. It is located in the Wellesley Farms area. The current station building, designed by Henry Hobson Richardson in 1886 and constructed in 1890, has been listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places as Wellesley Farms Railroad Station since 1986.

Massachusetts Bay Community College (MassBay) is a public community college in Norfolk and Middlesex Counties. Founded in 1961, MassBay currently serves more than 4,400 full-time and part-time students on its three locations: Wellesley, Ashland, and Framingham. MassBay offers more than 70 degree and certificate programs aimed at helping students transfer to a four-year college or university or towards direct placement into a career. Massachusetts Bay Community College is accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education.

The Clark House, also known as the Rev. Francis E. Clark House, is an historic house at located at 379 Central Street in the village of Auburndale in Newton, Massachusetts. It is a 2+1⁄2-story wood-frame structure, with a cross-gable configuration that has a large circular three-story tower at the corner, topped by a conical roof. It has a variety of gables, projections, and window shapes and placement, characteristics of the Queen Anne style of architecture. It was built in 1895 for Rev. Francis Edward Clark, founder of the Young People's Society of Christian Endeavour. On September 4, 1986, the house was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

Woodland station is a light rail stop on the MBTA Green Line D branch, located off Washington Street (MA-16) between the Newton Lower Falls and Auburndale villages of Newton, Massachusetts, United States. It serves as access to the Newton-Wellesley Hospital, as well as a park and ride station for nearby Route 128. Woodland station was originally opened in 1886 by the Boston and Albany Railroad. The line closed in 1958 for conversion to light rail, and a new Woodland station slightly to the east in 1959. In 2006, the station was rebuilt for accessibility and a parking garage built as part of an adjacent transit-oriented development.
