Newton-Wellesley Hospital (NWH) is a community teaching medical center located in Newton, Massachusetts on Washington Street. It is affiliated with Tufts University School of Medicine and Harvard Medical School. Founded in 1881, part of its campus is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as the Newton Cottage Hospital Historic District. It is a member of Mass General Brigham, a network founded by Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital. The hospital offers a range of medical, surgical, and specialty care, including maternity services, a 24-hour emergency department, and orthopedic, critical care, and oncology inpatient units.

The Old Shephard Farm is a historic farmhouse at 1832 Washington Street in Newton, Massachusetts. Around 1740 a house was built on what is now Washington Street by Alexander Sheperd, one of the early settlers of the Auburndale area of Newton. This is house was repeatedly enlarged and added, resulting in a large house consisting of a main block and three ells by the end of the 19th century. In 1952 its rear wing (believed to be the oldest portion of the house), was separated and converted into a separate residence; this portion is now numbered 1832 Washington, while the main portion is at 1828 Washington.The house at 1832 Washington was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986. It was extensively renovated in 2013–14.

Newton Lower Falls, Massachusetts is one of the thirteen villages within the city of Newton in Middlesex County, Massachusetts, United States. The commercial area extends across the river into Wellesley, Massachusetts, where it is known as Wellesley Lower Falls, where a majority of the retail businesses are. The Charles River drops 18 feet over less than a quarter-mile at Lower Falls. A series of three small dams with fish ladders are located along the drop. The primary roads through the village of Lower Falls are Grove Street, Washington Street (Route 16), and Concord Street. The area is now a suburban neighborhood centered on the park at the old Hamilton elementary school (now Lower Falls Community Center), and bordered on the northwest by the Charles River and the Leo J. Martin public golf course. The historic heart of the Lower Falls village, St. Mary's Episcopal Church, and the adjacent residential area on Grove Street, are listed on the National Register of Historic Places as the Newton Lower Falls Historic District.

The Bartlett–Hawkes Farm is a historic house at 15 Winnetaska Road, in the Waban village of Newton, Massachusetts. With its oldest portion dating to about 1736, it is the oldest surviving building in Waban. Enlarged several times, it was moved to its present location from Beacon Street in 1915. It was listed in the National Register of Historic Places on September 4, 1986.

The Winslow–Haskell Mansion, also known locally as The Castle, is a historic house at 53 Vista Avenue in Newton, Massachusetts. The large Gothic Victorian house was built c. 1870, and enlarged and remodeled in 1882. The early construction included Gothic pointed-arch windows and vergeboard trim. Later work added Queen Anne styling, including the three-story tower, with polychrome roofing and cement-like wall surfacing. It has several ornately decorated porches. The house was purchased in 1872 by Edwin Haskell, owner of the Boston Herald.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979, and included in the Lasell Neighborhood Historic District in 1986. It was converted into a multiunit condominium in the 1980s.

The Lasell Neighborhood Historic District is a historic district roughly bounded by Woodland, Studio Roads, Aspen, Seminary Avenue, and Grove Street in Newton, Massachusetts - a village of Auburndale, Massachusetts. The area includes high-quality late - 19th and early - 20th century housing built in the area and includes buildings on the campus of Lasell University, established as the Auburndale Female Seminary in 1851. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.

Lasell University (LU) is a private university in Newton, Massachusetts. Lasell offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in the liberal arts, sciences, and professional fields of study.

On May 28, 2008, shortly before 6 p.m., two westbound MBTA trains collided on the Green Line D branch between Woodland and Waban stations, behind 56 Dorset Road in Newton, Massachusetts. An investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) originally found the cause of the accident to be due to the operator texting while driving, but the NTSB later found that the operator of the rear train, Terrese Edmonds, had not been using her cell phone at the time of the crash, but rather went into an episode of micro-sleep, causing her to lose awareness of her surroundings and miss potential hazards up ahead. The collision killed Edmonds, and numerous others were injured. Fourteen passengers were taken to area hospitals; one was airlifted. This crash, along with another similar accident a year later, led the NTSB to set higher standards and regulations regarding the use of cell phones while operating a train.

Riverside station is a Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) Green Line light rail station located in the Auburndale village of Newton, Massachusetts. It is the western terminal of the Green Line D branch service. The station is located near the interchange of Interstate 95 (Route 128) and the Massachusetts Turnpike (I-90) and serves as a regional park and ride station. West of the station is Riverside Yard, the main maintenance facility and largest storage yard for the Green Line. The station is fully accessible.

The 10th Curtis Cup Match was played on August 8 and 9, 1958 at the Brae Burn Country Club in West Newton, Massachusetts. The match was tied with both team having 41⁄2 points, and so the British Isles retained the trophy as the previous winner.The British Isles won two of the three foursomes matches but the United States won three of the six singles matches and halved another to tie the contest.

The Brae Burn Road Historic District is a residential historic district on Brae Burn and Windermere Roads in Newton, Massachusetts. It encompasses as modest residential subdivision that was laid out in the then-rural area of Auburndale in 1911. Many of its houses were designed by the regionally notable firm of Gay & Proctor, and represent a well-preserved collection of modestly scaled Craftsman and Colonial Revival style houses. The district includes 26 houses. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.

Brae Burn Country Club is a golf course located in West Newton, Massachusetts. Designed by Donald Ross, Brae Burn has hosted seven USGA Championships, including the 1919 U.S. Open, and 1928 U.S. Amateur. Brae Burn is most noted for its diabolical greens, and classic layout.
