Stag's Leap Wine Cellars is a winery founded by Warren Winiarski in 1970 and based in the Stags Leap District of Napa Valley, California. The winery achieved significant international recognition in 1976, six years after its establishment, at the Judgment of Paris where its 1973 vintage Cabernet Sauvignon won first place among ten top French and California red wines in a blind taste test by leading French wine experts. The French wines tasted were prestigious first and second growths wines from the 1970 and 1971 vintage from Château Mouton-Rothschild, Château Haut-Brion, Château Leoville Las Cases and Château Montrose. The result of the tasting has been described by Decanter as "a victory that put California on the winemaking map, and established Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars as a global superstar".

Stags' Leap Winery is a winery located near Yountville, California, United States, in the Stags Leap District of Napa Valley. The winery's 240-acre (97 ha) estate vineyard was first planted in 1893. In 1997, Stags' Leap was purchased by Beringer Wine Estates, which in 2000 was in turn purchased by the Australian company Foster's Group, whose two wine groups combined to become Beringer-Blass Wine Estates. Beringer-Blass was demerged from Fosters in 2011 to become Treasury Wine Estates. Robert Brittan continued the revitalization of the vineyards and winery until 2005. A wine tasting and visitation space is being converted from the winery's 19th-century manor bed-and-breakfast, to increase its daily visitation from 10 to 40 appointments per day, with food and wine pairings, by the parent company Treasury Wine Estates

Ricardo Herrera has been the full time winemaker at Baldacci since 2015 and he has worked throughout the years at such iconic wineries as Stag's Leap Wine Cellars, Dominus and Screaming Eagle. Older brother and Consulting Winemaker, Rolando Herrera who used to be cellar master of Stag's Leap Wine Cellars and has worked at Napa Valley wineries Chateau Potelle, Vine Cliffe Winery and Paul Hobbes Wines still provides a guiding hand. Along with Stags' Leap Winery and others, Baldacci Family Vineyards is a member of the Stags Leap District Winery Association.

The wine industry in Napa Valley recovered, and helped by the results of the Paris Wine Tasting of 1976, came to be seen as capable of producing the best quality wine – equal to that of Old World wine regions. Napa Valley is now a major enotourism destination.

Yountville (//ˈjʌntˌvɪl// YONT-vil) is an American Viticultural Area (AVA) located in Napa County, California centered around the town of Yountville. It was established as the nation's 137th, the state's 83rd and the county's fourteenth appellation on March 19, 1999 by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF), Treasury after reviewing the petition submitted by Mr. Richard Mendelson, on behalf of a number of wineries and grape growers in the locale proposing a new Napa Valley viticultural area known as "Yountville." The viticultural area is located entirely within the Napa Valley appellation encompassing approximately 8,260 acres (13 sq mi), of which 3,500 acres (1,416 ha) were cultivated at the outset. The viticultural area was determined by extending the wine growing area from around the town of Yountville until it abuts the previously established viticultural areas of Oakville on the north, Stags Leap District on the east, and Mt. Veeder on the west. To the south is an area called Oak Knoll which was petitioned and designated a viticultural area in 2004. The town's founder George Calvert Yount planted the first vineyard in the region around 1836. The appellation is one of Napa Valley's coolest climate which helps contribute to its long growing season. It is particularly known for its very tannic Cabernet Sauvignon varietal wines that have the capability of aging well in the bottle.
