Morganton, North Carolina

Mountain View is a historic plantation house at Morganton, Burke County, North Carolina. It was built about 1815, and is a 2+1⁄2-story, five-bay, Federal-style brick house. It was remodeled in the 1870s in the Gothic Revival style. It features a two-story gabled porch with decorative bargeboards. Later remodelings added Victorian- and Colonial Revival-style decorative elements.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.

Franklin Pierce Tate House is a historic home located at Morganton, Burke County, North Carolina. It was designed by architect Electus D. Litchfield and completed in 1928. It is a two-story, Colonial Revival style dwelling constructed of irregularly-coursed, rock-faced granite blocks. It consists of a main block measuring 52 feet by 33 feet, with a recessed two-story wing. The front entrance features a semi-circular, flat-roofed portico. It was built by Franklin Pierce Tate (1867–1937), a prominent Morganton banker and mill-owner, and son of Colonel Samuel McDowell Tate who built the Tate House.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986. It is located in the West Union Street Historic District.

It was built by Thomas George Walton, great nephew of George Walton, a signer of the Declaration of Independence.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972.

Alphonso Calhoun Avery was born at Swan Ponds in 1835, the fifth son of Isaac Thomas Avery (1785-1864). Avery had a notable legal, military and political careers highlighted by an eight-year term as an associate justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. It is located in the North Green Street-Bouchelle Street Historic District.

The core was built about 1850, and is a two-story, three-bay, brick mansion with a center hall plan in the Greek Revival style. It was remodeled in the Second Empire style in 1868, with the addition of a mansard roof and large three-story octagonal tower. It was the home of Samuel McDowell Tate (1830–1897), who undertook the 1868 remodeling.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.

The current Burke County Courthouse is located at 201 South Green Street, Morganton, Burke County, North Carolina and operates as the courthouse for Burke County. It was opened in 1976 to replace the Old Burke County Courthouse. The old courthouse, in use by 1837, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
