Morganton Downtown Historic District is a national historic district located at Morganton, Burke County, North Carolina. It encompasses 62 contributing buildings in the central business district of Morganton. It includes commercial, industrial, and governmental buildings built between about 1889 and 1940. It includes representative examples of Classical Revival, Art Deco, and Italianate style architecture. Notable buildings include the Old Burke County Courthouse, Morganton Post Office, and the Morganton Community House.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.

Gaston Chapel is a historic African Methodist Episcopal church located at 100 Bouchelle Street in Morganton, Burke County, North Carolina. It was built from 1900 to 1911, and is a brick church building with a high-pitched hip roof and Late Gothic Revival style design influences. It features a Gothic-arched tripartite stained-glass window. It is the oldest extant, and first substantial, African-American church structure in Burke County.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.

Garrou-Morganton Full-Fashioned Hosiery Mills, also known as Premier Hosiery Mills and Morgantown Hosiery Mills, is a historic hosiery mill complex located at Morganton, Burke County, North Carolina. The complex encompasses three contributing buildings and one contributing structure. They are the two Art Moderne style main buildings (1927-1929 and 1928–1939); Outlet Store (1924) and Water Tower Structure (c. 1939).It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999.

Tate House, also known as The Cedars, is a historic home located at Morganton, Burke County, North Carolina. The core was built about 1850, and is a two-story, three-bay, brick mansion with a center hall plan in the Greek Revival style. It was remodeled in the Second Empire style in 1868, with the addition of a mansard roof and large three-story octagonal tower. It was the home of Samuel McDowell Tate (1830–1897), who undertook the 1868 remodeling.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.

Avery Avenue School, also known as Catawba Valley Legal Services, is a historic school building located at Morganton, Burke County, North Carolina. It was built in 1923, and is a two-story, brick, crescent-shaped building. It has a polygonal center section features a pyramidal roof covered in mission tile and topped by a small belfry. The building housed a school until 1957 when it was converted to offices for Burke County.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.

South King Street Historic District is a national historic district located at Morganton, Burke County, North Carolina. It encompasses 10 contributing buildings in Morganton. It includes residential, religious, and educational buildings built between about 1893 and 1939. It includes representative examples of Colonial Revival, Georgian Revival, and Gothic Revival style architecture. Notable buildings include the Grace Episcopal Church (c. 1893), Morganton Library (c. 1935), and Works Progress Administration constructed nurses' home.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.

The primarily residential buildings were built between about 1895 and 1935. It includes representative examples of Bungalow / American Craftsman and Shotgun style architecture.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.

Grace Episcopal Church is a parish of the Episcopal Diocese of Western North Carolina in Morganton, North Carolina. Founded in 1845, property was procured at the corner of King Street and Meeting Street, and the original structure was constructed in 1846 primarily from timber, seating approximately 50 people. The current structure was constructed in 1896 from local granite and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.Grace has enjoyed a rich history of mission and outreach. At the turn of the 20th century, Grace Episcopal Church clergy and members founded five additional Episcopal mission congregations in Burke County, North Carolina, most of which included a chapel and school. Two of the original five mission congregations survive today as parishes: St. Mary & St. Stephen Episcopal Church in Morganton and St. Paul's Episcopal Church at Lake James. In 1906, Grace Episcopal Church founded Grace Hospital, originally located adjacent to the existing church building on King Street. Today, Grace Hospital is part of the Blue Ridge Healthcare System. From there, Grace members went on to start the first Red Cross chapter in Burke County, the first hospice in Burke County, and the first Boy Scouts troop for deaf scouts in the United States.Today, Grace continues its commitment to serving the community in many ways. In particular, its extensive backpack ministry, providing more than 200 10-pound backpacks of food for children and families at a local elementary school. Grace also offers grants to local non-profit service-oriented organizations through the Grace Foundation, founded in 1969, and disbursing between $70,000 and $80,000 per year.Grace Episcopal Church's current rector is The Rev. Marshall A. Jolly, who was called in May 2015. The parish deacon is The Rev. Deacon Mike Jenkins.

It encompasses 37 contributing buildings in a predominantly residential section of Morganton. It includes buildings built between about 1876 and 1935, and includes representative examples of Colonial Revival, Bungalow / American Craftsman, and Late Victorian style architecture. Located in the district is the separately listed Alphonse Calhoun Avery House.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.

Alphonse Calhoun Avery House, also known as the Avery-Surnrnersette House, is a historic home located at Morganton, Burke County, North Carolina. It was built about 1876, and is a two-story, U-shaped, Late Victorian style brick house. It features a 2+1⁄2-story, squarish, brick tower topped by a mansard roof. Alphonso Calhoun Avery was born at Swan Ponds in 1835, the fifth son of Isaac Thomas Avery (1785-1864). Avery had a notable legal, military and political careers highlighted by an eight-year term as an associate justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. It is located in the North Green Street-Bouchelle Street Historic District.

Gaither House is a historic home located at Morganton, Burke County, North Carolina. It was built about 1840, and is a one-story, three-bay, hip roofed, Greek Revival style frame house. It features a three-bay, pedimented entrance porch supported by four, large, fluted Doric order columns. It was the home of Burgess Sidney Gaither (1807-1892), a Whig party attorney long prominent in local and state political activities.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.

Southern Railway Freight Station is a historic railway station located at Morganton, North Carolina. Built-in 1929, it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
