Stoke, Cheshire East

Stoke Hall is a Grade II listed mansion on Stoke Hall Lane in the civil parish of Stoke in Cheshire East, England. The large L-shaped building dates originally from the early 17th century, but has a 19th-century appearance. It is built from red brick, in Flemish Bond, with a slate roof.The hall originally belonged to the Minshull family, who owned the manor of Stoke in the 17th century. A disused dovecote with a bell turret in the grounds of the hall dates from the late 18th century; it is also listed at grade II.The building was Grade II listed on 10 June 1952. The hall gives its name to the lane from which it is accessed. The photograph is of Stoke Manor not Stoke Hall.

Barbridge Junction (grid reference SJ612570) is the name of the canal junction located at Barbridge, Cheshire, where the Shropshire Union Canal Middlewich Branch terminates and meets the Shropshire Union Canal main line.

Wardle is a village and civil parish in the unitary authority of Cheshire East and the ceremonial county of Cheshire, England. The village lies on the Shropshire Union Canal, north west of Barbridge Junction (at SJ610570), and is 4 miles to the north west of Nantwich, and the parish also includes part of the small settlement of Wardle Bank. The total population is around 250. RAF Calveley was a flight-training station during the Second World War, and the Mark III radio telescope stood on the airfield site in 1966–96. The modern civil parish includes Wardle Industrial Estate and is otherwise largely agricultural. Nearby villages include Barbridge, Calveley and Haughton.

Burland is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Burland and Acton, in the unitary authority area of Cheshire East and the ceremonial county of Cheshire, England, about 2+1⁄2 miles west of Nantwich. The civil parish also included the small settlements of Burland Lower Green, Burland Upper Green, Hollin Green and Stoneley Green, as well as parts of Gradeley Green and Swanley. The eastern part of the village of Ravensmoor also falls within the civil parish (also in the parish of Baddiley). According to the 2001 census the civil parish had a total population of 582, decreasing slightly to 580 at the 2011 Census.

Ravensmoor Windmill is a former windmill located to the south of Wrexham Road (A534) between the villages of Acton and Burland, Cheshire, England. It is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II listed building. The structure dates from the early 19th century, and is constructed in red brick. It consists of a circular tapering tower with a boarded roof. The original roof and sails are no longer present, and water pumping mechanism has been installed on the roof. There are windows on three levels, some of which are blocked.

The Battle of Nantwich was fought on 25 January 1644 in Cheshire during the First English Civil War. In the battle, Sir Thomas Fairfax in command of a Parliamentarian relief force defeated Lord Byron and the Royalists. The Parliamentarian victory halted a series of Royalist successes in the area and was a major setback to King Charles' planned military campaign for 1644.

Cholmondeston ( CHUM-stən) is a village and civil parish in the unitary authority of Cheshire East and the ceremonial county of Cheshire, England. The village lies 5 miles (8 km) to the northwest of Nantwich. Nearby villages include Aston juxta Mondrum, Barbridge, Calveley and Wettenhall. The Middlewich Branch of the Shropshire Union Canal and the Crewe–Chester railway line run through the civil parish. The area is predominantly rural, with a total population of around 150 in 2001, increasing to 175 at the 2011 Census.
