Danby, New York

Danby is the primary hamlet and a census-designated place (CDP) in the town of Danby, Tompkins County, New York, United States. It was first listed as a CDP prior to the 2020 census.The community is in southern Tompkins County, in the north-central part of the town of Danby. It is in a valley at the headwaters of Buttermilk Creek, which flows north over Buttermilk Falls to Cayuga Inlet and then into Cayuga Lake at Ithaca. New York State Route 96B runs through the center of Danby, leading north 7 miles (11 km) to Ithaca and southeast 12 miles (19 km) to Candor.

East Hill Historic District is a national historic district located at Ithaca in Tompkins County, New York. The district consists of 263 contributing buildings and one contributing structure. It contains the greatest concentration of Ithaca's architecturally and historically significant buildings and has retained the architectural integrity of the 1870-1920 period.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.

It was first listed as a CDP prior to the 2020 census.The community is in southern Tompkins County, on the west side of the town of Danby. It is bordered to the west by the town of Newfield. New York State Routes 34 and 96 run together through the center of the hamlet, leading north 10 miles (16 km) to Ithaca and south 8 miles (13 km) to Spencer. West Danby is on the west side of the deep valley of Cayuga Inlet, which runs north to Cayuga Lake at Ithaca.

The Clinton B. Ford Observatory is an astronomical observatory that is operated by the Ithaca College physics department. The observatory is located in the forest on the south end of the Ithaca College campus in Ithaca, New York (United States). It was constructed in 1998 using funds from the National Science Foundation and a bequest from the late Clinton B. Ford. It houses a CCT-16 16-inch (0.4 m) f/8 Cassegrain telescope.
