Danby is the primary hamlet and a census-designated place (CDP) in the town of Danby, Tompkins County, New York, United States. It was first listed as a CDP prior to the 2020 census.The community is in southern Tompkins County, in the north-central part of the town of Danby. It is in a valley at the headwaters of Buttermilk Creek, which flows north over Buttermilk Falls to Cayuga Inlet and then into Cayuga Lake at Ithaca. New York State Route 96B runs through the center of Danby, leading north 7 miles (11 km) to Ithaca and southeast 12 miles (19 km) to Candor.

The Clinton B. Ford Observatory is an astronomical observatory that is operated by the Ithaca College physics department. The observatory is located in the forest on the south end of the Ithaca College campus in Ithaca, New York (United States). It was constructed in 1998 using funds from the National Science Foundation and a bequest from the late Clinton B. Ford. It houses a CCT-16 16-inch (0.4 m) f/8 Cassegrain telescope.

Buttermilk Falls State Park is a 811-acre (3.28 km2) state park located southwest of Ithaca, New York, United States. Like Robert H. Treman State Park, a portion of the land that was to become the state park came from Robert and Laura Treman in 1924.

The Roy H. Park School of Communications is one of five schools at Ithaca College, in Ithaca, New York, United States. The school is named after media executive Roy H. Park, who lived in Ithaca and who served on the board of trustees at Ithaca College for many years. As one of the first schools of communications in the U.S., it runs the first and longest-running student-operated television cable channel (ICTV) and offers students access to studios and more than three million dollars of portable and lab equipment. It has been named a top school for film, journalism, media, and entertainment by Variety, The Hollywood Reporter, The Princeton Review and more.In addition to its campus facilities in Ithaca, it runs the Pendleton Center in Los Angeles where students can study and engage in internships for a semester. Coreorgonel was an 18th-century Native American village in what is now Tompkins County, New York. The name has been translated as "Where we keep the pipe of peace."In the mid 18th century, a group of Tutelo, a Siouan-speaking people, migrated north from their homelands in Virginia to seek the protection of their former enemies, the Haudenosaunee (Iroquois). The Cayuga adopted the Tutelo and a related tribe, the Saponi, in 1753. The Tutelo built the village of Coreorgonel with about 25 to 30 homes, near the present-day junction of state routes 13 and 13A along the Cayuga Inlet, just south of Ithaca.In 1779, a detachment of the Sullivan-Clinton Expedition under Colonel Henry Dearborn, tasked with wiping out Native opposition to the American Revolution, burned the village and displaced the inhabitants. Many of the survivors fled north to Canada with the Cayuga. The site is now the location of Ithaca's Tutelo Park.
