Ithaca College School of Music

Ithaca College is a private college in Ithaca, New York. It was founded by William Egbert in 1892 as a conservatory of music and is set against the backdrop of the city of Ithaca (which is separate from the town), Cayuga Lake, waterfalls, and gorges. The college is best known for its large list of alumni who have played prominent roles in the media and entertainment industries. Ithaca College is internationally known for the Roy H. Park School of Communications, which is ranked by several organizations as a top school for journalism, film, media and entertainment. The college has a strong liberal arts core, and offers several pre-professional programs, along with some graduate programs.Ithaca College has been ranked among the Top 10 masters universities in the "Regional Universities North" category by U.S. News & World Report, every year since 1996, and was ranked tied at ninth for 2021. Ithaca College is consistently named among the best colleges in the nation by Princeton Review, with the 2018 guide ranking the college number 3 for theater, number 3 for newspaper, and number 6 for Radio, and is among the top schools producing Fulbright scholarship recipients.

The Roy H. Park School of Communications is one of five schools at Ithaca College, in Ithaca, New York, United States. The school is named after media executive Roy H. Park, who lived in Ithaca and who served on the board of trustees at Ithaca College for many years. As one of the first schools of communications in the U.S., it runs the first and longest-running student-operated television cable channel (ICTV) and offers students access to studios and more than three million dollars of portable and lab equipment. It has been named a top school for film, journalism, media, and entertainment by Variety, The Hollywood Reporter, The Princeton Review and more.In addition to its campus facilities in Ithaca, it runs the Pendleton Center in Los Angeles where students can study and engage in internships for a semester. Students also may study away at the college's center in London and through a newly established New York City program. Diane Gayeski, an alumna of the school and a faculty member since 1979, served as its dean for more than a decade before retiring in 2020.

The Clinton B. Ford Observatory is an astronomical observatory that is operated by the Ithaca College physics department. The observatory is located in the forest on the south end of the Ithaca College campus in Ithaca, New York (United States). It was constructed in 1998 using funds from the National Science Foundation and a bequest from the late Clinton B. Ford. It houses a CCT-16 16-inch (0.4 m) f/8 Cassegrain telescope.

South Hill is a census-designated place (CDP) in Tompkins County, New York, United States. The population was 6,673 at the 2010 census. The South Hill CDP is located within the town of Ithaca. It is located near the south end of Cayuga Lake. The name South Hill is shared with a contiguous area within the City of Ithaca. Ithaca College is located in the South Hill CDP.

Rufus and Flora Bates House is a historic home located in the South Hill neighborhood of Ithaca in Tompkins County, New York. It was built about 1828 and is a 1+1⁄2-story, five bay, center entrance frame dwelling in the Greek Revival style. It is sheathed in clapboard and has a three bay wing. It was the home of Rufus Bates, one of the early presidents of the Village of Ithaca.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2009.

The Ithaca Commons is a two-block pedestrian mall in the business improvement district known as Downtown Ithaca that serves as the city's cultural and economic center. The Commons is a popular regional destination, and is filled with upscale restaurants and shops, public art, and frequent community festivals.

State Theatre of Ithaca is a historic, 1600-seat theatre located at Ithaca in Tompkins County, New York that hosts various events from bands, to plays, to comedy acts, to silent films, and more. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1996.

Ithaca Downtown Historic District is a national historic district located at Ithaca in Tompkins County, New York. The district consists of 64 contributing mostly commercial buildings. It is composed mainly of multi-story buildings with brick exteriors and flat or low-pitched roofs fronted by a variety of parapets set off by decorative cornices. The district includes three separately listed properties: Clinton House, Clinton Hall, and the State Theater.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.

The Sciencenter's Sagan Planet Walk is a walkable scale model of the Solar System, located in Ithaca, New York. The model scales the entire Solar System—both planet size and distances between them—down to one five billionth of its actual size. The exhibition was originally created in 1997 in memory of Ithaca resident and Cornell Professor Carl Sagan.Consisting of eleven obelisks situated along a 1.18 km (0.73 mi) path through the streets of downtown Ithaca, the original Planet Walk leads from the Sun at Center Ithaca to Pluto at the Ithaca Sciencenter. In 2012, the model was expanded 7,630 kilometers (4,740 mi) to include a representation of Alpha Centauri, the Sun's closest neighboring star, at the ʻImiloa Astronomy Center at the University of Hawaii. The addition of the Alpha Centauri Obelisk made it the world's largest exhibition, until the Akaa Solar System Scale Model added Proxima Centauri in 2018 at a distance of 13,370 kilometres (8,310 mi) away from Akaa. In 2014, the inner planets and Sun were removed as part of extensive construction being done to the Ithaca Commons, but have since been replaced. In 2015, a grant was approved to further expand the exhibition by installing an exoplanet Kepler-37d station on the Moon 384,500 kilometers (238,900 mi) away.

St. James AME Zion Church is a historic African Methodist Episcopal Zion church located at Ithaca in Tompkins County, New York. It is a two-story, frame church structure set on a high foundation and featuring a four-story entrance tower. The church structure was begun in the 1830s and modified many times since. The original stone meetinghouse was built in 1836 and is believed to be Ithaca's oldest church and one of the oldest in the AME Zion system. Historically, the church has played an important role in the history of Ithaca. During the 19th century, it was the site of abolitionist activity, both by ministers there and as a stop on the Underground Railroad. In the 20th century, the church was the site of the foundation of Alpha Phi Alpha, the nation's first official African American fraternity, and it also held early meetings of the NAACP in the region. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.
