Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation

The Great Blue Heron Casino is located on Scugog Island, just east of the community of Port Perry, Ontario, and northeast of Toronto. Both the Casino and the land on which it is built are owned by the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation. The First Nation theme is carried throughout the facility, in the interior art and is especially noticeable in the signature red, blue and cream colour roof. The Great Blue Heron Gaming Company, a partnership of Casinos Austria, the Steiner Family, and Sonco Gaming, operates the Casino. The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation manages the slots, while the Baagwating Community Association, a non-profit, charitable organization formed by the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation, manages the table games. Revenues and profits are distributed among the parties, and to various charitable organizations, based upon contractual sharing arrangements. Opened originally in 1997, with gaming tables and a 650-seat bingo hall, the Casino was extensively renovated in 1999 and 2000. Its floor area is approximately 25,000 square feet (2,300 m2), in which there are now two bars, one restaurant, a slots' room with 545 machines and a 60 table games. The table games include: Roulette, Blackjack, Spanish 21, Mini Baccarat, Let it Ride Poker, Texas Hold Em Poker, Pai Gow Poker, Three & Four Card Poker and Texas Hold Em Bonus Poker. As of 1999, there is no longer a bingo hall on premises. On November 1, 2021, The Great Blue Heron Casino announced the completion of their renovation and hotel, which was announced on January 9, 2018. The renovation was delayed multiple times due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The renovation consists of a 100 room hotel and a 20,000 foot addition to the casino.

Scugog Centre is a community in the township of Scugog, Ontario. Located on the shores of Lake Scugog's east side (opposite Scugog Island centred at Island Road (Regional Road 7) and Demara Road) just east of Lakeside Beach. The area is mainly agricultural with few homes, with more residential areas along the lake. At the intersection of Island Road, Demara Road and Stephenson Point Road are a few historic structures: Scugog Island Hall (banquet facility built in 1884) Scugog Island United Church and Manse (built 1868) Scugog Island Centre School (built 1865)

Scugog is a township in the Regional Municipality of Durham, south-central Ontario, Canada. It is northeast of Toronto and just north of Oshawa. The anchor and largest population base of the township is Port Perry. The township has a population of roughly 22,500. A smaller Scugog Township was also a historic municipality and geographic township prior to the amalgamation that formed the current municipality.

Sonya (pronounced Sawn•ya) is a small hamlet in Durham Region and the City of Kawartha Lakes in Ontario, Canada. It is located 3 km north of Seagrave on Simcoe Street, also known as Regional Road 2. A recently constructed sub-division has expanded the hamlet from about 15 houses to more than 30. At one time it had a railroad station, as part of the Whitby, Port Perry, and Lindsay Railroad, a post office, a blacksmith shop, and a general store. The railroad closed in the 1940s and the general store was destroyed by fire in the 1950s. The railroad trackbed is still visible just west of the hamlet where it crossed the concession road, and the station, now gone, was located just north of the road. The former Knox Presbyterian Church, built in 1893, is now a private residence, after closing in the 1980s. The village park land is now surrounded by the new subdivision and was once home to the Sonya Sleigh Riders baseball team.

Port Perry is a community located in Scugog, Ontario, Canada. The town is located 84 kilometres (52 mi) northeast of central Toronto, north of Oshawa, and east of Whitby. Port Perry has a population of 9,553 as of 2021. Port Perry serves as the administrative and commercial centre for the township of Scugog. The town is home to a 24-bed hospital (Lakeridge Health Port Perry), Scugog Township's municipal offices and many retail establishments. Port Perry serves as a hub for many small communities in the Scugog area, such as Greenbank, Raglan, Caesarea, Blackstock and Nestleton/Nestleton Station. The Great Blue Heron Charitable Casino is a major employer. Located at the basin of the Trent-Severn Waterways is Lake Scugog, one of Ontario's largest man-made lakes.

Durham is a provincial electoral district in Ontario, Canada, that has been represented in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario since 1999 and from 1926 to 1975. The Durham provincial riding was created in 1999 when Ontario adopted federal riding boundaries for provincial elections purposes. It was created from Durham East and Oshawa It consisted initially of the Township of Scugog, Scugog Indian Reserve No. 34, the Town of Clarington, and the part of the City of Oshawa lying north of a line drawn from west to east along Taunton Road, south along Ritson Road North, east along Rossland Road East, south along Harmony Road North, and east along King Street East. In 2007, the riding gained the Township of Uxbridge but lost all of its territory in Oshawa with the exception of the areas north of Taunton Road.

Durham (formerly known as Clarington—Scugog—Uxbridge) is a federal electoral district in Ontario, Canada, that has been represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1904 to 1968 and since 1988. Its first iteration was created in 1903 from Durham East and Durham West ridings. It consisted of the county of Durham. The electoral district was abolished in 1966 when it was merged into the Northumberland—Durham riding. It was recreated in 1987 from parts of the Durham—Northumberland and Ontario ridings. The second incarnation of the riding initially consisted of the Town of Newcastle, the townships of Scugog and Uxbridge, Scugog Indian Reserve No. 34, the part of the City of Oshawa lying north of Rossland Road, the allowance for road in front of lots 1, 2, 3 and 4, Concession 3 and part of the Town of Whitby lying north of Taunton Road. In 1996, it was redefined to consist of the Township of Scugog, Scugog Indian Reserve No. 34, the Town of Clarington and part of the City of Oshawa lying north of a line drawn from west to east along Taunton Road, south along Ritson Road North, east along Rossland Road East, south along Harmony Road North and east along King Street East. The electoral district was abolished in 2003 when it was redistributed between Clarington—Scugog—Uxbridge, Oshawa and Whitby—Oshawa ridings. Clarington—Scugog—Uxbridge was defined to consist of the townships of Uxbridge and Scugog, the Municipality of Clarington and the Mississaugas of Scugog Island reserve. In 2004, Clarington—Scugog—Uxbridge was renamed to its current name of Durham. Following the Canadian federal electoral redistribution of 2012, the riding lost territory to Pickering—Uxbridge and Northumberland—Peterborough South and gained territory from Oshawa and Whitby—Oshawa. On August 24, 2020, then-Durham MP Erin O'Toole won the Conservative Party leadership election and was named Leader of the Official Opposition.

Port Perry/Hoskin Aerodrome (TC LID: CPP3) is located 2.5 nautical miles (4.6 km; 2.9 mi) southeast of Port Perry, Ontario, Canada. The private airfield has a single 2,200 ft (670 m) turf runway located in the northwest corner of Shirley Road and Graham Road in the Township of Scugog.
