Gierałtowice, Silesian Voivodeship

Gmina Gierałtowice is a rural gmina (administrative district) in Gliwice County, Silesian Voivodeship, in southern Poland. Its seat is the village of Gierałtowice, which lies approximately 9 kilometres (6 mi) south-east of Gliwice and 21 km (13 mi) west of the regional capital Katowice. The gmina covers an area of 39 square kilometres (15.1 sq mi), and as of 2019 its total population is 12,096.

Knurów ([ˈknuruf]; German: Knurow; Silesian: Knurōw) is a city near Katowice in Silesia, southern Poland. Knurów borders on the Upper Silesian Metropolitan Union, a metropolis with a population of two million. Knurów is located in the Silesian Highlands, on the Bierawka River, a tributary of the Oder River.

The Przyszowice massacre (Polish: Zbrodnia przyszowicka or tragedia przyszowicka) was a massacre perpetrated by the Red Army against civilian inhabitants of the Polish village of Przyszowice in Upper Silesia during the period January 26 to January 28, 1945. Sources vary on the number of victims, which range from 54 to over 60 – and possibly as many as 69. The Institute of National Remembrance, a Polish organization that carried out research into these events, has declared that the Przyszowice massacre was a crime against humanity.

Przyszowice [pʂɨʂɔˈvit͡sɛ] (German Preiswitz) is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Gierałtowice, within Gliwice County, Silesian Voivodeship, in southern Poland. The village has a population of 3,199. It lies approximately 5 kilometres (3 mi) north-east of Gierałtowice, 7 km (4 mi) south-east of Gliwice, and 18 km (11 mi) west of the regional capital Katowice. Among the most notable landmarks of the area is an eclectic palace of the von Raczek family built between 1890 and 1895, the St. John of Nepomuk's Church built in 1938 and a wooden granary of 1829. During the final stages of World War II the village was the site of the Przyszowice massacre in which roughly 70 Polish civilians were murdered by the Red Army.

Gmina Czerwionka-Leszczyny is an urban-rural gmina (administrative district) in Rybnik County, Silesian Voivodeship, in southern Poland. Its seat is the town of Czerwionka-Leszczyny, which lies approximately 15 kilometres (9 mi) north-east of Rybnik and 24 km (15 mi) west of the regional capital Katowice. The gmina covers an area of 115.65 square kilometres (44.7 sq mi), and as of 2019 its total population is 42,152. The gmina contains part of the protected area called Rudy Landscape Park.

Czerwionka-Leszczyny [t͡ʂɛrˈvʲɔŋka lɛʂˈt͡ʂɨnɨ] (German: Czerwionka-Leschczin) is a town in Silesian Voivodeship in southern Poland. It is the only town in Rybnik county (which is separate from Rybnik city) and the seat of the larger Czerwionka-Leszczyny municipality which also includes 6 villages. Czerwionka-Leszczyny was created by a merger of two towns (Czerwionka and Leszczyny) and two villages (Czuchów and Dębieńsko), which to this day maintain their separate identities. As of December 2021, the town has a population of 27,683.A former mining town, it has transformed into a commuter town for the nearby cities of Rybnik, Gliwice and Katowice.

Dębieńsko (German: Dubensko) is a dzielnica (district) of Czerwionka-Leszczyny, Silesian Voivodeship, southern Poland. It was an independent village, but became administratively part of Leszczyny in 1977, renamed to Czerwionka-Leszczyny in 1992. It has an area of 15,01 km2.Historically Dębieńsko was subdivided into two municipalities: Dębieńsko Stare (German: Alt Dubensko, lit. Old Dębieńsko), Dębieńsko Wielkie (German: Gross Dubensko, lit. It lies approximately 5 kilometres (3 mi) north-east of Gierałtowice, 10 km (6 mi) south-east of Gliwice, and 17 km (11 mi) west of the regional capital Katowice. The village has a population of 2,297.

Its seat is the village of Ornontowice, which lies approximately 10 kilometres (6 mi) west of Mikołów and 19 km (12 mi) south-west of the regional capital Katowice. The gmina covers an area of 15.1 square kilometres (5.8 sq mi), and as of 2019 its total population is 6,134.

The Budryk coal mine is a large mine in the south of Poland in Ornontowice, Silesian Voivodeship, 320 km south-west of the capital, Warsaw. Budryk represents one of the largest coal reserve in Poland having estimated reserves of 235.5 million tonnes of coal. The annual coal production is around 5 million tonnes.
