Riverton, New Jersey

The Riverton School District is a community public school district that serves students in kindergarten through eighth grade from Riverton in Burlington County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2017-18 school year, the district and its one school had an enrollment of 298 students and 25.2 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 11.8:1.The district is classified by the New Jersey Department of Education as being in District Factor Group "GH", the third-highest of eight groupings. District Factor Groups organize districts statewide to allow comparison by common socioeconomic characteristics of the local districts. From lowest socioeconomic status to highest, the categories are A, B, CD, DE, FG, GH, I and J.For ninth through twelfth grades, students in public school attend Palmyra High School in Palmyra, together with students from Beverly, as part of a sending/receiving relationship with the Palmyra Public Schools. In the early 1990s, the district had considered options to ends its sending relationship with Palmyra. As of the 2017-18 school year, the high school had an enrollment of 429 students and 41.3 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 10.4:1.

Riverton is a station on the River Line light rail system, located along South Broad Street between Thomas Avenue and Main Street in Riverton, New Jersey, though it is officially addressed as being on Main Street.The station opened on March 15, 2004. Southbound service from the station is available to Camden, New Jersey. Northbound service is available to the Trenton Rail Station with connections to New Jersey Transit trains to New York City, SEPTA trains to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Amtrak trains. Transfer to the PATCO Speedline is available at the Walter Rand Transportation Center. The station contains a traffic circle at South Broad Street and Lippincott Avenue, with non-functioning railroad signals and a sign on the evolution of grade crossing signs in front of a bicycle rack. A similar display can be found at Burlington South further to the northeast.

Pompeston Creek is a creek in Burlington County, New Jersey. Pompeston Creek drains an area of 9 square miles, and runs through Riverton, Moorestown, Delran, and Cinnaminson. The river's headwaters are located in Moorestown, and Pompeston Creek flows directly into the Delaware River. Wetlands are common along the banks of the river.

Palmyra is a station on the River Line light rail system, located on East Broad Street between in Cinnaminson and Highland Avenues in Palmyra, New Jersey, though its official address is on East Broad Street. The station opened on March 15, 2004. Southbound services go to Camden, New Jersey and northbound services go to the Trenton Transit Center. Palmyra station is located just east of Borough Park and the Palmyra Borough Hall.

Southbound service from the station is available to Camden, New Jersey. Northbound service is available to the Trenton Rail Station with connections to New Jersey Transit trains to New York City, SEPTA trains to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Amtrak trains. Transfer to the PATCO Speedline is available at the Walter Rand Transportation Center. The station is located across from the Cinnaminson Harbour condominium community. A pedestrian crosswalk provides access to the development, as well as to Bannard Street across the tracks.

Palmyra High School is a six-year comprehensive public high school that serves students in seventh through twelfth grades from Palmyra in Burlington County, New Jersey, United States, operating as the lone secondary school of the Palmyra Public Schools. High school classes began shortly after the completion of the Spring Garden Street School in 1895; this building is on the National Register of Historic Places. With increased enrollment, the school was moved to a former girls school, Berkeley Hall, in 1907, and to its own building in 1909. A large addition was completed in 1922. The 1909 structure was destroyed by fire in 1957, and after a vote that narrowly defeated establishing a regional high school, additions were made to the building in 1958 and 1961. As of the 2019–20 school year, the school had an enrollment of 349 students and 31.6 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 11.1:1. There were 97 students (27.8% of enrollment) eligible for free lunch and 24 (6.9% of students) eligible for reduced-cost lunch.Students from Beverly and Riverton attend the district's high school as part of sending/receiving relationships. In past years, students from Cinnaminson Township, Delanco Township, Delran Township, Riverside Township, and the Delair portion of Pennsauken Township had also attended Palmyra High School.

Cinnaminson High School is a four-year public high school that serves students in ninth through twelfth grades from Cinnaminson Township in Burlington County, New Jersey, United States, operating as the lone secondary school of the Cinnaminson Township Public Schools. The campus covers approximately 26 acres (110,000 m2). The school has been accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Elementary and Secondary Schools.As of the 2020–21 school year, the school had an enrollment of 829 students and 66.6 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 12.4:1. There were 95 students (11.5% of enrollment) eligible for free lunch and 30 (3.6% of students) eligible for reduced-cost lunch.

The Philadelphia House of Correction is one of five local prisons operated by the Philadelphia Prison System. It is located at 8001 State Road in the Holmesburg neighborhood of Northeast Philadelphia. The facility was built in 1874 and rebuilt in 1927. Originally it was designed to the same pattern as the now-disused Eastern State Penitentiary, but the reconstruction and modifications over the decades has produced many differences. Both facilities were outfitted with cells along a number of hallways radiating from a central hub. The cells were designed for single-occupancy in accordance with the Pennsylvania System.Although the facility can hold 1,250 prisoners in 666 cells, this prison was emptied of inmates in 2019 and Mayor Jim Kenney plans to officially close the facility in 2020.Given its age, the jail is the subject of political discussion concerning its future or replacement. The facility lacks modern fire-control systems and air conditioning.

On June 11, 2023, a tanker truck carrying gasoline lost control as it was attempting to exit the highway and caught fire under the overpass carrying Interstate 95 (I-95) at the Pennsylvania Route 73 (PA 73, Cottman Avenue) interchange in the Tacony neighborhood of Northeast Philadelphia. The extreme heat caused the northbound lanes to collapse and damaged the southbound lanes. This resulted in a roughly nine-mile (14 km) closure of both directions of I-95 between the Betsy Ross Bridge/Aramingo Avenue (exit 26) and PA 63/Woodhaven Road (exit 35). After emergency construction of a temporary roadway, traffic resumed June 23, less than two weeks after the fire.A similar incident was seen in 2007 where a large fire caused the collapse of a connector in the MacArthur Maze in Oakland, California, and in 2017 where a large fire caused the collapse of an overpass that was a part of I-85 in Atlanta, Georgia.

On November 7, 2020, four days after the United States presidential election, Rudy Giuliani, former mayor of New York City and an attorney for then-president Donald Trump, hosted a press conference at Four Seasons Total Landscaping, a small business in the Holmesburg neighborhood of Near Northeast Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The event was held at the company's garage door and parking lot to discuss the status of the Trump campaign's legal challenges to the ballot-counting process in the state, where the president's early election lead over Joe Biden had shifted to a shortfall as mailed-in ballots were counted for Philadelphia, historically a heavily Democratic city. The site of the press conference, a local landscaping business, was unexpected. Many journalists and others quickly observed a comical aspect to its location, near a sex shop and a crematorium. This site selection led to speculation that the Trump campaign meant to book the upscale Four Seasons Hotel Philadelphia, five city blocks from the Pennsylvania Convention Center, where Philadelphia's ballots were being counted. Shortly after Giuliani began talking to the assembled reporters, the Associated Press projected Biden as the winner of the Pennsylvania vote and thus the nationwide election. Several news outlets characterized the event as the symbolic end of Trump's presidency.The event was ridiculed by journalists and users of social media. It garnered further ridicule after it emerged that one of the speakers at the event was a convicted sex offender. It resulted in lawyers withdrawing from the legal team that the Trump campaign had assembled to challenge the election results. In response to the press conference, a Four Seasons-themed charity run was created, and the landscaping company capitalized on the newfound attention by selling T-shirts and other merchandise.
