Estonian History Museum

The Great Guild (Estonian: Suurgild, German: Große Gilde) was a guild for merchants and artisans, operating in Tallinn from at least the 14th century until 1920. It was based in the Great Guild hall, a Gothic building in the historical centre of Tallinn, today housing the Estonian History Museum. In 2013, the Great Guild hall was named a European Heritage site.The building was erected in 1407-1410, with the interiors finished in 1417. The façade is decorated with blind arches, and has a typical, prominent portal. Inside, the main hall especially retains the medieval atmosphere. It is a large (365 square metres (3,930 sq ft)) room, supported by a range of pillars with decoratively carved capitals.The Great Guildhall is considered a typical example of medieval Tallinn architecture.

Maiasmokk (Estonian: Sweet lip) is an old café in the capital city of Tallinn, Estonia that is located at the address of Pikk tn 16. It is said to have finished in its modern form in 1864, making it the oldest operational café in Estonia. The premises also contain a museum about the history and uses of marzipan. It is currently owned by the Kalev company.

The Church of the Holy Ghost or Church of the Holy Spirit (Estonian: Püha Vaimu kirik, , German: Heiliggeistkirche ) is a medieval Lutheran church in the old town district of Tallinn, Estonia. It is located behind Raekoja plats, and lies opposite the Great Guild and Maiasmokk, Tallinn's oldest café.

Raekoja plats (English: Town Hall Square) is a town square beside Tallinn Town Hall (Estonian: Raekoda) in the center of the Tallinn Old Town in Tallinn, Estonia. It is a venue for numerous small festivals or concerts like Tallinn Old Town Days (Estonian: Tallinna Vanalinna Päevad), and several bars and restaurants are located in the near vicinity. The square also hosts a market regularly, with many stalls selling traditional Estonian items and souvenirs (Estonian: Suveniirid).

Vanalinn (Estonian for "Old Town") is a subdistrict (Estonian: asum) in the district of Kesklinn (Midtown), Tallinn, the capital of Estonia. It has a population of 4,437 (As of 1 January 2015).

Victory over the Swedish army in the Battle of Lihula inspired the Oeselians for further fightings. In 1221 they tried to conquer the Danish stronghold in Tallinn with the help of Revalians, Harrians, and Vironians. They besieged the stronghold for 14 days and all Danish outbreaks were repulsed. One day, four cogs appeared unexpectedly, which the Oeselians thought to have been carrying the Royal Army of the Danish king. The siege was ended and the Oeselians left.

Estonian Health Care Museum (Estonian: Eesti Tervisemuuseum) is a health museum in Tallinn, Estonia. The museum collects, exhibits and analyzes things related to healthcare in Estonia.The museum was established in 1921. Its first exhibition, held from 1924 to 1928, had 300 exhibits borrowed from foreign museums. Before 1945, the museum was located in Tartu. In 1932, the branch was opened in Tallinn. In 1945, the museum was re-organized into the educational sanitary house (Estonian: sanitaarharidusmaja). In 1950, the sanitary house was closed.During the Soviet occupation of Estonia, the museum was closed and many of its items destroyed. The museum re-opened in 1980 in Tallinn as the Health Museum of the Centre of Sanitary Education of the Republic. In 1989, the museum changed its name back to the Estonian Health Care Museum when it reorganized as an independent entity.

Estonian Museum of Applied Art and Design (ETDM, Estonian: Eesti Tarbekunsti- ja Disainimuuseum) is a museum dedicated to the history of applied arts and design in Estonia. Located in Tallinn, the museum was established in 1971, and opened in 1980 as part of the Estonian National Art Museum branch. It became independent in 2004.

Canute Guild or Guilde de Saint-Canut (Estonian: Kanuti gild) was a guild in Tallinn, Estonia. The guild was named after Knud Lavard.The guild was probably established in 13th century. The first mentioning was in 1326. At the beginning, the guild was composed by artisans and merchants. After creation of Great Guild (circa 14th century), the merchants moved to the Great Guild.By nationality, most of the guild's members were German. For Estonians, becoming a guild's member was restricted, especially between 1508 and 1698.The guild was closed in 1920.

The Bombardment of Reval (Swedish: Beskjutningen av Reval) was an attack carried out by the Dano–Lübeckian Navy against the town of Reval (modern-day Tallinn) in 1569 during the Northern Seven Years' War. The attack led to Peder Munk bringing home a large booty from plundering merchant ships. If he had landed his men in time, he would have been able to capture the city as well.

From the 13th century until the first half of the 20th century, Tallinn was known in most of the world by variants of its other historical name Reval. Tallinn received Lübeck city rights in 1248, however the earliest evidence of human population in the area dates back nearly 5,000 years. The first recorded claim over the place was laid by Denmark after a successful raid in 1219 led by king Valdemar II, followed by a period of alternating Scandinavian and Teutonic rulers. Due to the strategic location by the sea, its medieval port became a significant trade hub, especially in the 14–16th centuries, when Tallinn grew in importance as the northernmost member city of the Hanseatic League. Tallinn's Vanalinn ("Old Town") is one of the best-preserved medieval cities in Europe and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.Tallinn has the highest number of start-ups per person among European countries and is the birthplace of many international high-technology companies, including Skype and Wise.
