Giessenlanden

Hoornaar is a town in the Dutch province of South Holland, in the Alblasserwaard, north of the river Merwede and south of the river Lek. It is a part of the municipality of Molenlanden, and lies about 5 km north of Gorinchem. In 2007, the town of Hoornaar had 1655 inhabitants. The built-up area of the town was 0.24 km². The statistical area "Hoornaar", which also can include the peripheral parts of the village, as well as the surrounding countryside, has a population of around 1580.Hoornaar was a separate municipality between 1817 and 1986, when it became part of Giessenlanden.The town hall of the municipality Giessenlanden lies within the town's borders. The small rivers Kromme Giessen, Giessen and Kleine Vaart flow through the town. The name Hoornaar is derived from Hornedamme. A 'Horne' is a curve in a river. Years ago the river Linge joined the river Giessen behind the village of Hoogblokland. There a dam was built and a settlement originated. Because of the existence of so-called donken, which are hills of sand made by glacial sedimentation, and the lack of them elsewhere, it is known that Hoornaar has a long history. The history of Hoornaar is quiet. There was a raid on the village in 1481. In the 11th century an attack of Gofried of Lotharingen was prohibited by count Dirk III of Holland. In the 19th century Hoornaar became depended on the harvest of cannabis for its fibers to make rope with. Later on Hoornaar became more depended on potato and beet harvest. Besides stockbreeding, cheese trade and export companies became important to the village economy.

In 2013, the town of Noordeloos had 1816 inhabitants. The built-up area of the town was 0.14 km2, and contained 300 residences. The statistical area "Noordeloos", which also can include the peripheral parts of the village, as well as the surrounding countryside, has a population of around 370.Noordeloos was a separate municipality until 1986 when it became part of Giessenlanden.Noordeloos is also the name of a small community in Ottawa County, Michigan. It was created in the mid-1800s by Dutch settlers (who, at the time were also settling in nearby Holland and Zeeland) and was named after the original Dutch town.

Nederslingeland is a polder in the Dutch province of South Holland. It is located about 5 km northwest of the city of Gorinchem. The hamlet Pinkeveer is located in the polder. Nederslingeland was a separate municipality between 1817 and 1857, when it became part of Peursum.

Arkel is a railway station, located in Arkel in the Netherlands. The station is located on the Qbuzz line between Dordrecht and Geldermalsen. It was opened on 1 December 1883, was closed on 15 May 1938 and was reopened on 10 June 1940. Originally, Arkel had two tracks, in the 1980s this was reduced to a single track. Train services are operated by Qbuzz. The station building is now in use as an office.

It was a separate municipality between 1817 and 1956, when it became part of Giessenburg. In 1857, Peursum was enlarged with the former municipality of Nederslingeland.

Schelluinen (Dutch pronunciation: [sxɛˈlœynə(n)]) is a village in the Dutch province of South Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Molenlanden, and lies about 4 km west of Gorinchem. In 2017, the village of Schelluinen had 1,426 inhabitants. The built-up area of the village was 0.23 km², and contained 342 residences. The statistical area "Schelluinen", which can include the peripheral parts of the village, as well as the surrounding countryside, has a population of around 1240. Schelluinen was a separate municipality between 1817 and 1986, when it became part of Giessenlanden, which in 2019 merged into Molenlanden.

Arkel is a town in the province of South Holland, Netherlands. A part of the municipality of Molenlanden, it lies about 3 km north of Gorinchem. Arkel is a former municipality; in 1986 it became part of Giessenlanden.In 2017, the village of Arkel had 3.445 inhabitants. The built-up area of the village was 0.42 km² and contained 1.125 residences. The statistical area "Arkel", which also includes the surrounding countryside, has a population of around 3220. Though there are little places of cultural interest in Arkel, there is a 19th-century domed church and a 19th-century windmill.

Broek is a hamlet in the Dutch province of Utrecht. It is a part of the municipality of Vijfheerenlanden, and lies about 11 km north of Gorinchem. Broek has no place name signs, and the postal authorities have placed it under Meerkerk. In 1840, it was home to 293 people. A part of the hamlet has been placed under Ameide and consists of about 10 houses.
