Nederslingeland

Peursum is a former village and municipality in the Dutch province of South Holland, located on the north bank of the river Giessen. It was a separate municipality between 1817 and 1956, when it became part of Giessenburg. In 1857, Peursum was enlarged with the former municipality of Nederslingeland.

The statistical area "Schelluinen", which can include the peripheral parts of the village, as well as the surrounding countryside, has a population of around 1240. Schelluinen was a separate municipality between 1817 and 1986, when it became part of Giessenlanden, which in 2019 merged into Molenlanden.

Giessenburg (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈɣisə(m)bʏr(ə)x]) is a town in the Dutch province of South Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Molenlanden, and lies about 6 km west of Gorinchem. Giessenburg was a separate municipality between 1957 and 1986. It was created in a merger of the municipalities Giessen-Nieuwkerk and Peursum. In 2010, the town of Giessenburg had 4889 inhabitants. The built-up area of the town was 0.43 km², and contained 911 residences. The statistical area "Giessenburg", which also can include the peripheral parts of the village, as well as the surrounding countryside, has a population of around 2900.

Hoornaar is a town in the Dutch province of South Holland, in the Alblasserwaard, north of the river Merwede and south of the river Lek. It is a part of the municipality of Molenlanden, and lies about 5 km north of Gorinchem. In 2007, the town of Hoornaar had 1655 inhabitants. The built-up area of the town was 0.24 km². The statistical area "Hoornaar", which also can include the peripheral parts of the village, as well as the surrounding countryside, has a population of around 1580.Hoornaar was a separate municipality between 1817 and 1986, when it became part of Giessenlanden.The town hall of the municipality Giessenlanden lies within the town's borders. The small rivers Kromme Giessen, Giessen and Kleine Vaart flow through the town. The name Hoornaar is derived from Hornedamme. A 'Horne' is a curve in a river. Years ago the river Linge joined the river Giessen behind the village of Hoogblokland. There a dam was built and a settlement originated. Because of the existence of so-called donken, which are hills of sand made by glacial sedimentation, and the lack of them elsewhere, it is known that Hoornaar has a long history. The history of Hoornaar is quiet. There was a raid on the village in 1481. In the 11th century an attack of Gofried of Lotharingen was prohibited by count Dirk III of Holland. In the 19th century Hoornaar became depended on the harvest of cannabis for its fibers to make rope with. Later on Hoornaar became more depended on potato and beet harvest. Besides stockbreeding, cheese trade and export companies became important to the village economy.

Giessen-Nieuwkerk (Dutch pronunciation: [ˌɣisəˈniukɛr(ə)k]) is a former town in the Dutch province of South Holland. It is now called Giessenburg. It is also the name of a former municipality, that existed until 1957, when it merged with Peursum to form the new municipality of Giessenburg. The name means "Giessen-New Church", and refers to the small river Giessen. The town Giessen-Oudekerk ("Giessen-Old Church") is located 2 km southwest.

Giessenlanden (Dutch: [ˈɣisə(n)ˌlɑndə(n)] ) is a former municipality in the western Netherlands, in the province of South Holland. The municipality covered an area of 65.11 km2 (25.14 sq mi) of which 1.54 km2 (0.59 sq mi) is water, and had a population of data missing as of 2021. The municipality included communities of Arkel, Giessen-Oudekerk, Giessenburg, Hoogblokland, Hoornaar, Noordeloos and Schelluinen. On 1 January 2019, it merged with Molenwaard to form the new municipality of Molenlanden.

Goudriaan is a village in the Dutch province of South Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Molenlanden, and lies about 25 km east of Rotterdam. On 1 January 2006, the village of Goudriaan had 843 inhabitants. The built-up area of the village was 0.028 km², and contained 309 residences.Goudriaan was a separate municipality until 1986, when it became part of Graafstroom. Last one has become a part of Molenwaard in 2013.

The Steenenhoek Canal (in Dutch : Kanaal van Steenenhoek) is a Dutch canal in southeastern Netherlands. The canal runs from the northern part of Gorinchem where it connects to Linge. The canal goes west along the railway and A15 (Rotterdam-Nijmegen) motorway. Then it flows to the North of Boven-Hardinxveld to connect with Beneden Merwede (Lower Merwede) at Neder-Hardinxveld in the municipality of Hardinxveld-Giessendam where a pumping station is used to maintain the water level.

De Gieser Wildeman is a restaurant in Noordeloos, Netherlands. It is a fine dining restaurant that was awarded one Michelin star for the period 2006–present. The choice of name was inspired by two things: the River Giessen, flowing past the restaurant, and the Gieser Wildeman, a type of culinary pear and one of the favourite dishes of the head chef.GaultMillau awarded the restaurant 15 out of 20 points.Head chef of De Gieser Wildeman is René Tichelaar.The restaurant is a member of Alliance Gastronomique Néerlandaise since 2010.

The Boven Merwede (Dutch pronunciation: [ˌboːvəˈmɛrʋeːdə], Upper Merwede) is a stretch of river in the Netherlands, mainly fed by the river Rhine. The Afgedamde Maas river joins the Waal at Woudrichem to form the Boven Merwede, which at Hardinxveld-Giessendam splits into the Beneden Merwede river on the right and the Nieuwe Merwede river on the left. Its length is 8.8 km (5.5 mi). The Merwede is part of the main shipping route between Rotterdam and Germany. A road bridge connects the west side of Gorinchem on the north to the west side of Sleeuwijk on the south. There are three passenger ferries.

Noordeloos is a town in the Dutch province of South Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Molenlanden, and lies about 8 kilometres (5.0 mi) north of Gorinchem. In 2013, the town of Noordeloos had 1816 inhabitants. The built-up area of the town was 0.14 km2, and contained 300 residences. The statistical area "Noordeloos", which also can include the peripheral parts of the village, as well as the surrounding countryside, has a population of around 370.Noordeloos was a separate municipality until 1986 when it became part of Giessenlanden.Noordeloos is also the name of a small community in Ottawa County, Michigan. It was created in the mid-1800s by Dutch settlers (who, at the time were also settling in nearby Holland and Zeeland) and was named after the original Dutch town.
