Zeevang

Oosthuizen is a village in the Dutch province of North Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Edam-Volendam, and lies about 8 km north of Purmerend.

Etersheim is a hamlet in the Dutch province of North Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Edam-Volendam, and lies about 2 kilometers northeast of Oosthuizen. Etersheim was a separate municipality between 1817 and 1848, when it was merged with Oosthuizen.Etersheim is not a statistical entity, and the postal authorities have placed it under Oosthuizen. Etersheim has place name signs. It was home to 45 people in 1840. Nowadays, it consists about 25 houses.It was first mentioned in 1277 as Eitersem. The etymology is unclear. It used to be a village, but disappeared in the former Zuiderzee (nowadays: IJsselmeer). A new village was built within the dike.The old village church from 1730 was demolished in 1901, and used to construct the new church. The church was in service until 1971. In 1975, it was bought by the Church of Satan and was in service for a couple of years. It is now a residential home. The tower was partially demolished in 1984, because it was unstable.

Hobrede is a village in the Dutch province of North Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Edam-Volendam, and lies about 4 km northeast of Purmerend. The village was first mentioned in 1639 as Hobreet, and means the main side of the parcel of lands which connect the dike. The width of the land determined the maintenance fee of the farmer for the dike.Hobrede used to have a church, but it was demolished in 1826. In 1840, it was home to 115 people. In 1991, the inhabitants of Hobrede built their own village house.

It was a separate municipality from 1817 to 1854, when it was merged with Beets. In 2016, it became part of the municipality of Edam-Volendam.

Warder is a village in the Dutch province of North Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Edam-Volendam, and lies about 7 km northeast of Purmerend. The village was first mentioned between 1130 and 1161 as Werthere, and means "island". The original village was probably more to the east on the former lake Almere and moved inland as the Zuiderzee started to grow. The current Warder developed in the late 12th century as a peat excavation settlement. The elementary school was built as an L-shaped building with tower in 1885. It was renovated around 1920.Warder was home to 290 people in 1840. It was a separate municipality between 1817 and 1970, when the new municipality of Zeevang was created. In 2016, it became part of the municipality of Edam-Volendam.

The village was first mentioned around 1312 as Scaderwoude. The etymology is unclear. Scharwoude often experienced floods due to its proximity to the former Zuiderzee. It was flooded in 1375. The current shape of the dike and the village date from 1854. The former church dates from 1892. It was decommissioned in 1986, and is now a residential home.

Later Ast (east) was dropped from the name. Grosthuizen developed as a peat excavation settlement in the 13th century. In 1874, a church was built, but demolished in 1965. Only a belfry remains.Grosthuizen was home to 307 people in 1840. It was a separate municipality between 1817 and 1854, when it was merged with Avenhorn. In 2007, it became part of the municipality of Koggenland.
