Kanmon Straits

Karato (唐戸) is the downtown area of the city of Shimonoseki, Japan. It is known as the most famous sightseeing spot in Yamaguchi Prefecture.

Kameyama Hachimangū (亀山八幡宮, Kameyama Hachimangū) is a Shinto shrine located in Shimonoseki, Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan. It is a Hachiman shrine, dedicated to the kami Hachiman. The kami it enshrines include Emperor Ōjin, Empress Jingū, and Emperor Chūai. It was established in 859, and has an annual festival on October 15. The shrine can be reached by bus from Shimonoseki Station.

Akama Shrine (赤間神宮, Akama Jingū) is a Shinto shrine in Shimonoseki, Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan. It is dedicated to Antoku, a Japanese emperor who died as a child in the Battle of Dan-no-ura (aka Dannoura), which occurred nearby in 1185. This battle was important in the history of Japan because it brought an end to Genpei War in which the Minamoto clan defeated the rival Taira clan, and ended the Taira bid for control of Japan. The shrine is situated on the waterfront of the Kanmon Strait, between the centre of Shimonoseki and the tourist restaurants of Karato, Kanmon Wharf. The bright red main gate makes it a very visible sight.

Shimonoseki (Japanese: 下関市, Hepburn: Shimonoseki-shi) is a city located in Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan. With a population of 265,684, it is the largest city in Yamaguchi Prefecture and the fifth-largest city in the Chūgoku region. It is located at the southwestern tip of Honshu facing the Tsushima Strait at the entrance to the Kanmon Straits (also known as the Straits of Shimonoseki) across from the city of Kitakyushu and the island of Kyushu. It is nicknamed the "Fugu Capital" for the locally caught pufferfish, and is the largest harvester of the pufferfish in Japan.

Moji-ku (門司区) is a Japanese ward of the city of Kitakyushu in Fukuoka Prefecture. It is the former city of Moji which was one of five merged to create Kitakyūshū in 1963. It faces the city of Shimonoseki across the Kanmon Straits between Honshū and Kyūshū. The ward's area is 73.37 km². It had a population of 114,754 as of 2000.

Mojikō Station (門司港駅, Mojikō-eki) is a railway station on the Kagoshima Main Line in Moji-ku, Kitakyushu, Japan, operated by the Kyushu Railway Company (JR Kyushu).

Kyushu Railway History Museum Station (九州鉄道記念館駅, Kyūshū-Tetsudō-Kinenkan-eki) is a train station in Moji ward of Kitakyushu, Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan. It is on the Mojikō Retro Scenic Line, a heritage railway operated by the Heisei Chikuhō Railway.

The Kaikyō Yume Tower (海峡ゆめタワー) dominates the city of Shimonoseki and is the tallest tower in western Japan. Standing 153 metres tall, it was opened in July 1996. It forms a part of the Kaikyō Messe Shimonoseki building, which houses a conference centre and corporate offices.The tower was designed by NTT Power and Building Facilities and built by Takenaka Corporation.Upon paying an admission fee, tourists can visit an observation deck in the glass sphere at the top of the building for panoramic views over the city and the Kanmon Straits. Idemitsu Art Museum Station (出光美術館駅, Idemitsu-Bijutsukan-eki) is a train station in Moji ward of Kitakyushu, Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan. It is on the Mojikō Retro Scenic Line, a heritage railway operated by the Heisei Chikuhō Railway.

The Kanmon Bridge (関門橋, Kanmonkyō) (Asian Highway Network AH1) is a suspension bridge crossing the Kanmon Straits, a stretch of water separating two of Japan's four main islands. On the Honshū side of the bridge is Shimonoseki (下関, which contributed Kan to the name of the strait) and on the Kyūshū side is Kitakyushu, whose former city and present ward, Moji (門司), gave the strait its mon. The Kanmon Bridge was opened to vehicles on November 14, 1973 and connected to the Kyūshū Expressway on March 27, 1984. It is among the 50 largest suspension bridges in the world with a central length of 1,068 metres (3,504 feet).

Norfolk Hiroba (ノーフォーク広場駅, Nōfōku-Hiroba-eki) is a train station in Moji ward of Kitakyushu, Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan. It is on the Mojikō Retro Scenic Line, a heritage railway operated by the Heisei Chikuhō Railway.

Buzenda (豊前田, ぶぜんだ) refers to the downtown area of Shimonoseki City, Japan. It is located in the Shimonoseki Station area, and it is known as the most famous downtown area in Yamaguchi Prefecture. There are izakaya, karaoke bars, and other social venues around Buzenda-cho-2.
