Moordrecht (Dutch: [ˈmoːrdrɛxt] (listen)) is a town and a former municipality in the province of South Holland, the Netherlands, situated along the river Hollandse IJssel. In September 2006, 93% of the population of Moordrecht chose by referendum to pursue a merger with the neighboring municipalities Nieuwerkerk aan den IJssel and Zevenhuizen-Moerkapelle. Only 7% chose to merge with Gouda. Based on this result, the town council decided to form the new municipality Zuidplas in 2010 with Nieuwerkerk aan den IJssel and Zevenhuizen-Moerkapelle. International footballer Memphis Depay was born there.

The Gouwe is a channelized river in South Holland, the Netherlands. It runs in a north–south direction from the Oude Rijn to the Hollandse IJssel. From Alphen aan den Rijn, where the Gouwe begins at the Gouw Locks, it flows through Boskoop and Waddinxveen to Gouda. Here it splits into the old stream through the city and into the Gouwe Canal on the city's west side. The Gouwe was historically part of the primary (and prescribed) shipping route in Holland, connecting Dordrecht with Haarlem and later on Amsterdam. These cities, together with the Counts of Holland who collected toll at Gouda and Spaarndam, maintained this arrangement to the dissatisfaction of the cities Delft and Leiden which were bypassed by this route. Today the Gouwe is still an important shipping route. At the Oude Rijn, river travel can be continued north over the Aar Canal. It also functions as the main water outlet for the Rijnland region. Three striking vertical lift bridges cross the Gouwe at Alphen aan den Rijn, Boskoop, and Waddinxveen.

South Holland (Dutch: Zuid-Holland [ˌzœyt ˈɦɔlɑnt] (listen)) is a province of the Netherlands with a population of over 3.7 million as of October 2021 and a population density of about 1,373/km2 (3,560/sq mi), making it the country's most populous province and one of the world's most densely populated areas. Situated on the North Sea in the west of the Netherlands, South Holland covers an area of 3,307 km2 (1,277 sq mi), of which 607 km2 (234 sq mi) is water. It borders North Holland to the north, Utrecht and Gelderland to the east, and North Brabant and Zeeland to the south. The provincial capital is the Dutch seat of government The Hague, while its largest city is Rotterdam. The Rhine-Meuse-Scheldt delta drains through South Holland into the North Sea. Europe's busiest seaport, the Port of Rotterdam, is located in South Holland.

Broek was a municipality in the Dutch province of South Holland, located west and north of Gouda. A longer name of the municipality, Broek, Bloemendaal, Broekhuizen, Thuil en het Weegje names the polders that are part of the municipality. Broek was a separate municipality between 1817 and 1870, when it became part of Waddinxveen. The polder "Broek" is now part of the municipality of Gouda, as is part of Bloemendaal. Around 1850, the municipality had a population of more than 1300, on an area of 17.55 km².,

Schielands Hoge Zeedijk, formerly called Hoogendijk ("high dike") is a Dutch dike in the province of South Holland that stretches from the Schie at Schiedam to the Gouwe near Gouda. Constructed in the 13th century, the dike continues to protect an area inhabited by 3 million people from flooding by the North Sea.

Gouda (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈɣʌudaː] (listen)) is a city and municipality in the west of the Netherlands, between Rotterdam and Utrecht, in the province of South Holland. Gouda has a population of 72,338 and is famous for its Gouda cheese, stroopwafels, many grachten, smoking pipes, and its 15th-century city hall. Its array of historic churches and other buildings makes it a very popular day trip destination. In the Middle Ages, a settlement was founded at the location of the current city by the Van der Goude family, who built a fortified castle alongside the banks of the Gouwe River, from which the family and the city took its name. The area, originally marshland, developed over the course of two centuries. By 1225, a canal was linked to the Gouwe and its estuary was transformed into a harbour. City rights were granted in 1272.

Gouda is a railway station in Gouda, Netherlands. The station opened on 21 May 1855 when the Nederlandsche Rhijnspoorweg-Maatschappij (Dutch Rijn Railway Company) opened the Utrecht–Rotterdam railway. The Gouda–Den Haag railway to The Hague was opened in 1870, and the connection to Alphen a/d Rijn in 1934. Trains running between Den Haag Centraal / Rotterdam Centraal and Utrecht Centraal call at the station, as well as the RijnGouweLijn connection to Alphen a/d Rijn. In November 1944, during World War II, the strategically located railway station was bombed by the Royal Air Force. The main building of the railway station was severely damaged; traces of the bombing are visible to this day on platforms 3 and 5. In 1948 a new building was constructed out of the remaining first floor of the old building. This was replaced by the current building in 1984.

Groenhovenbad is an aquatic centre in Gouda, the Netherlands. It hosted from 21-28 March the 2016 Women's Water Polo Olympic Games Qualification Tournament.

Berkenwoude is a village in the Netherlands, in the municipality of Krimpenerwaard. Until 1985, it was a separate municipality, when it became part of Bergambacht. Now its a part of the Krimpenerwaard. The village has approximately 1,500 inhabitants and it is situated in the middle of the Krimpenerwaard.

Benedenheul is a hamlet in the Dutch province of South Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Krimpenerwaard, and lies about 7 km south of Gouda. The statistical area "Benedenheul", which also can include the surrounding countryside, has a population of around 240.Until 2015, Benedenheul was part of Vlist.
