Sawley, Derbyshire

All Saints’ Church, Sawley, is a Grade I listed parish church in Sawley, Derbyshire, England.

Harrington Bridge crosses the River Trent near Sawley in Derbyshire carrying the Tamworth Road (B6540) into Leicestershire. The stonework of the bridge dates from 1790, but the central section was replaced in 1905 after it was damaged by flood water. The central section is the only part of the bridge that is not a listed building.

Prior to 1866, Wilsthorpe was originally a hamlet and civil parish situated between the villages of Breaston 0.97 miles (1.56 km) to the west and Long Eaton 0.94 miles (1.51 km) to the east in Derbyshire and lies approximately 7.75 miles (12.47 km) east of the city of Derby. According to the University of Nottingham English Place-names project, the settlement name Wilsthorpe could mean 'Willow-tree wood clearing'; salh (Anglian) A willow-tree or a sallow, pers.n. (Old English) pers.n. Personal name, hlāw (Old English) A tumulus or a hill, and thorp (Old Norse) for a small village. The site where the hamlet once stood, along with 76% of the former parish area, is now a suburb of Long Eaton.

Breaston ( BREE-stən) is a large village and civil parish in the Erewash district, in the south-east of Derbyshire and lies approximately 6.81 miles (10.96 km) east of the city of Derby and 8 miles (13 km) west of the city of Nottingham. The population of the civil parish as taken at the 2011 Census was 4,455. The settlement name Breaston means 'Braegd's farm/settlement': (Old English) for a personal name and 'tūn' (Old English) for either an enclosure, farmstead, village, etc.

Derwent Mouth is a location on the River Trent, which at that point forms the border between the English counties of Derbyshire and Leicestershire. It is both the confluence of the River Derwent with the River Trent, and the point at which the Trent and Mersey Canal joins the natural River Trent. Derwent Mouth is situated closest to Sawley, Derbyshire and is 1 mile (1.6 km) to the east of Shardlow, 2 miles (3.2 km) west of Trent Lock, where the navigable River Soar and Erewash Canal join the River Trent. It is about 9 miles (14 km) south-west of the centre of the city of Nottingham, and 7 miles (11 km) south-east of central Derby. The River Trent is navigable, with the aid of locks, downstream of Derwent Mouth as far as the Humber Estuary. The Trent itself is also navigable for a short distance upstream, but most river traffic enters the parallel Trent and Mersey Canal, which provides connections to the River Mersey and the canal networks of the West Midlands region. The River Derwent is not navigable.

Wilsthorpe School (formerly Wilsthorpe Community School) is a co-educational secondary school and sixth form located in Long Eaton, Derbyshire, England.

The Trent College Ground is a cricket ground at Trent College in Long Eaton, Derbyshire, England. The ground has hosted five List A matches, all John Player League matches involving Derbyshire, who played one match each year at the ground from 1975 to 1979, with an estimated 6,000 spectators packed into the ground for the Derbyshire vs Kent match on 6 July 1975. Evidence of cricket being played on Trent College grounds date back to 1869, with records revealing two matches that year (one of them against Appleby Grammar School). Trent won both matches.

The Derwent is a river in Derbyshire, England. It is 50 miles (80 km) long and is a tributary of the River Trent, which it joins south of Derby. Throughout its course, the river mostly flows through the Peak District and its foothills. Much of the river's route, with the exception of the city of Derby, is rural. However, the river has also seen many human uses, and between Matlock and Derby was one of the cradles of the Industrial Revolution. It is the site of the Derwent Valley Mills, the first industrial-scale cotton mills. Today it provides a water supply to several surrounding cities, and its steep-sided valley is an important communications corridor through the uplands of the Peak District.The scenery of the Derwent valley attracts many tourists. The upper reaches pass through the Peak District National Park, whilst the middle reaches around the old spa town of Matlock Bath offer souvenir shops and amusement arcades, together with attractions such as the Heights of Abraham and its cable car.

Trent College is a co-educational independent boarding and day school located in Long Eaton, Derbyshire between Nottingham and Derby. Founded in 1868 as a local ’middle class alternative’ to the more famous public schools, it is now a coeducational school and a member of the Headmasters' and Headmistresses' Conference. It has over 1,000 pupils, including 760 pupils in the Senior School and 330 pupils in the Junior School (The Elms School). On the 28 March 2014, the governors announced that Bill Penty would be taking over as Head from September 2014 onward.
