Canton Junction station

Canton Viaduct is a blind arcade cavity wall in Canton, Massachusetts, built in 1834–35 for the Boston and Providence Railroad.At its completion, it was the longest (615 ft [187 m]) and tallest (70 ft [21 m]) railroad viaduct in the world; today, it is the last surviving viaduct of its kind. It has been in continuous service for 188 years; it now carries high-speed passenger and freight rail service. It supports a train deck about 65 feet (20 m) above the Canton River that passes through six semi-circular portals. The Canton Viaduct was the final link built for the B&P's then 41-mile (66 km) mainline between Boston, Massachusetts and Providence, Rhode Island. Today, the viaduct serves Amtrak's Northeast Corridor, as well as Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) Providence/Stoughton Line commuter trains. It is located 0.3 miles (0.5 km) south of Canton Junction, at milepost 213.74 (at the north end of the viaduct) reckoned from Pennsylvania Station in New York City, and at the MBTA's milepost 15.35, reckoned from South Station in Boston.

Canton Center is an MBTA Commuter Rail station in Canton, Massachusetts. It serves the Providence/Stoughton Line, including most Stoughton Branch service except for evening inbound trains. The station has 1 side platform on the south side of the track west of Washington Street; the platform has a mini-high section for accessibility.

The Canton River passes through downtown Canton, Massachusetts, tracing down Washington and Neponset Streets (flowing under the Canton Viaduct), and continues down Walpole Street. It is a tributary of the Neponset River, with a few tributaries on the side. It is also called the East Branch [of the] Neponset River.

The Canton Corner Historic District is a historic district encompassing the historic town center of Canton, Massachusetts. Centered on the junction of Pleasant and Washington Streets, it includes more than 25 properties and 170 acres (69 ha), whose architectural history spans 250 years of occupation and include the town's major civic buildings. The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places on September 9, 2009.

Signal Hill is a 150-acre (61 ha) open space preserve located in Canton, in the U.S. state of Massachusetts; it is centered on a 188-foot (57 m) rocky knoll by the same name. The property, acquired in 2005 by the land conservation non-profit organization The Trustees of Reservations, offers frontage on the Neponset River and views of Great Blue Hill and Downtown Boston from open ledges. The Signal Hill preserve also includes wetlands, open fields, and a car-top boating access point.Signal Hill contains the Wamsutta archaeological site, discovered during construction of Interstate 95, which was a seasonal camp for Paleo-Indians radiocarbon dated by nearby charcoal remains to 12,140 before present, around the time of the last glacial retreat, when rapid melting of the Wisconsin continental glacier created the mile-wide channel through which today's Neponset River flows. At this time, Signal Hill was a peninsula extending into a large lake of glacial meltwater.It is currently abutted by Interstate 95 as well as industrial and suburban land to the east, and river floodplain to the west. The preserve is open to non-motorized carry-in boating, hiking, picnicking, fishing, and similar pursuits. A trailhead for the 1.3 mile trail system is located on University Road in Canton.

Sharon Memorial Park is a Jewish cemetery located in Sharon, Massachusetts. This memorial park, established in 1948, the same year as the formation of Israel, is situated on 317 acres of land within the towns of Sharon and Canton.

Cobb's Tavern is a historic colonial tavern building in Sharon, Massachusetts. It is a 2+1⁄2-story wood-frame building, with brick end walls, a central chimney, and a pair of chimneys near the left wall. A single-story porch extends across the building's rightmost five bays. The original part of the house was built c. 1740, and is known to have served as a tavern for most of the 19th century. It also housed the East Sharon Post Office between 1817 and 1895. It is now a private residence. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.

Springdale station was a New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad station in the village of Springdale in Canton, Massachusetts. It was located on the Stoughton Branch. The station was built by the Old Colony Railroad at a cost $1,200. It opened in October 1891. It replaced an older building built in 1855. In 1919 the building was used in the filming of the now-lost silent film Anne of Green Gables, starring Mary Miles Minter.By the 1920s improvements in local highways led to reduced service on the Stoughton Branch, with both Springdale and West Stoughton in danger of being closed. They and other low-traffic stations were further endangered by the New Haven's 1935 bankruptcy. By the late 1930s service at Springdale was done to four weekday trains per day, handling a total of eleven passengers. The station was closed and demolished on July 1, 1940.

The 1956 PGA Championship was the 38th edition of the professional golf competition, held at Blue Hill Country Club in Canton, Massachusetts, a suburb southwest of Boston. Jack Burke Jr. won his second major championship of 1956, a 3 & 2 victory over Ted Kroll; Burke had won the Masters in April. It was the penultimate PGA Championship as a match play competition; stroke play was introduced two years later in 1958. This was the tenth and final year the PGA Championship was scheduled for a Tuesday finish. Defending champion Doug Ford was stopped in the third round by 1953 champion Walter Burkemo, 5 & 3.Blue Hill was not highly regarded as a championship venue and calls increased for a change in format to stroke play. Also, a five-year membership in the PGA of America was necessary to compete in the PGA Championship at the time; this excluded young professionals Arnold Palmer, Dow Finsterwald, Gene Littler, and Mike Souchak.This remains the only time the PGA Championship has been played in Massachusetts. It was the 8th major championship played in the state and the first in over 30 years, since the 1925 U.S. Open. The next major held in the state would be the 1963 U.S. Open. Burke was the second to win the Masters and PGA Championship in the same calendar year, following Sam Snead in 1949. Through 2016, it has only been accomplished four times, with the latter two by Jack Nicklaus in 1963 and 1975. The Open Championship was held two weeks earlier in England at Royal Liverpool Golf Club; neither Burke nor Kroll played in 1956 (or ever). In the skills competitions held on Thursday, Joe Kraak won the long driving contest at 300 yards (274 m).

Blue Hill Country Club is a private country club located in Canton, Massachusetts established in 1925. It has hosted professional tournaments on both the PGA Tour and LPGA Tour, including the PGA Championship, a major championship on the PGA Tour. It includes two courses: the 18-hole Championship Course, designed in 1925 by Eugene "Skip" Wogan and the 9-hole Challenger Course, designed in 1961 by Wogan's son Phil. Both courses were restored in 2003 by Ron Prichard who specializes in Donald Ross golf course restorations. The course is open to private and charity outings on Mondays between May and October.
