The Walters-Davis House, at 429 E. Tugalo St. in Toccoa in Stephens County, Georgia, was built in 1906. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.It is a one-story late Victorian Eclectic-style house. It was deemed significant architecturally and for its association with Judge Ben Davis, who occupied the house in 1912, purchased it in 1915, and lived in it until his death.Davis was President of the Stephens County Bar Association for 20 years and also served as Recorder for the City of Toccoa and as Judge of City Police and Justice Courts.It was built by master builder E.L. Prater (1872-1950), who also built the NRHP-listed James B. Simmons House (1903) and the Stephens County Jail, both in Toccoa, as well as a bank in Taylorsville and the NRHP-listed Candler Street School (1911) in Gainesville, Georgia.The listing included a second contributing building, originally an outhouse and coal storage building, now a storage building.The property was acquired by the Toccoa First United Methodist Church, located at 333 E. Tugalo St., in 1984, and serves as offices for the church.

The station is owned by Radio Training Network of Greenville, South Carolina, and is part of its His Radio Praise network carrying a contemporary worship music format. Prior to being owned by RTN, WTXR was the student-run campus radio station of Toccoa Falls College.

Currahee Mountain is a mountain located in Stephens County, Georgia, near Toccoa. The name appears to be derived from the Cherokee word ᏊᏩᎯ (quu-wa-hi) meaning "stand alone." Technically a part of the Georgia Piedmont or "foothill" province, Currahee Mountain rises abruptly about 800 vertical feet (240 m) above the local topography and is the highest peak in Stephens County. Part of the mountain is in the Chattahoochee National Forest. On clear days, the peak's 1,735-foot (529 m) summit is visible for many miles and is a prominent landmark to the southeast of Georgia's Blue Ridge Mountain crest. Currahee Mountain is one of the landmarks used in the Treaty of Hopewell. It was also used by Benjamin Hawkins to run the Hawkins Line.On October 12, 1864, Confederate troops defeated Union troops at the Battle of Narrows, also called the Battle of Currahee, during the Civil War. Casualties were small and the wounded were cared for by neighbors. The mountain is featured in Tom Hanks' and Steven Spielberg's television miniseries Band of Brothers, in which it was a training site of the American Paratroopers at Camp Toccoa, Georgia, where they ran up and down Currahee. The name of the mountain became a motto for these paratroopers, and inspired the quote "Three miles up, three miles down." The Colonel Robert F. Sink memorial trail follows Currahee Mountain Road from the site of former Camp Toccoa to the summit of Currahee Mountain. The start of the trail is marked by a commemorative plaque dedicating the trail to "Col. Bob" Sink from the Five-O-Sinks (506th Parachute Infantry Regiment Association). The trail is currently the venue for the Annual Currahee Challenge, a three- and six-mile race on the mountain that occurs in the fall. There is also a Run the first Saturday of June called the D Day Run held by the Camp Toccoa at Currahee organization. It is also a popular destination for rock climbing and rappelling. One of the radio towers at the top holds NOAA Weather Radio station WWH24, serving parts of northeast Georgia and upstate South Carolina from NWS Greer.

Camp Toccoa (formerly Camp Toombs) was a basic training camp for United States Army paratroopers during World War II, located five miles (eight kilometers) west of Toccoa, Georgia. Among the units to train at the camp was the 506th Infantry Regiment. The regiment's Company E ("Easy Company") was portrayed in the 2001 HBO miniseries Band of Brothers.

The Jarrett-Hayes House, also known as Liberty Lodge, in Stephens County, Georgia near Toccoa, is an I-house built around 1848. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994.It is a two-story plantation house built by slave labor, including for the making, on the property, of bricks used in its construction.It is located on the northeastern side of County Route 3, about 2 miles east of its junction with Georgia State Route 184.

Travelers Rest State Historic Site is a state-run historic site near Toccoa, Georgia. Its centerpiece is Traveler's Rest, an early tavern and inn. It was designated a National Historic Landmark on January 29, 1964, for its architecture as a well-preserved 19th-century tavern, and for its role in the early settlement of northeastern Georgia by European Americans.

Cherokee Creek Boys School is an American therapeutic boarding school for boys located at 198 Cooper Road, Westminster, South Carolina, United States. Cherokee Creek has been fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) since 2005, and is licensed by the state of South Carolina. The school is also a member of the National Association of Therapeutic Schools and Programs (NATSAP).

Tugaloo (Dugiluyi (ᏚᎩᎷᏱ)) was a Cherokee town located on the Tugaloo River, at the mouth of Toccoa Creek. It was south of Toccoa and Travelers Rest State Historic Site in present-day Stephens County, Georgia. Cultures of ancient indigenous peoples had occupied this area, and those of the South Appalachian Mississippian culture built a platform mound and village here. It was an administrative and ceremonial center for them. About six miles upriver was Estatoe, another historic Cherokee town in this area. (Other historic towns named Estatoe were identified in both western South Carolina and North Carolina.) Both the historic and prehistoric sites of Estatoe and Tugaloo were inundated by the creation of Lake Hartwell above Hartwell Dam.

Avalon is a town in Stephens County, Georgia, United States. As of the 2020 census, the city had a population of 233. Avalon was named for the Arthurian island of paradise. It was founded in 1882 by Richard Dempsey Yow, and incorporated in 1909. Yow and two brothers started a successful mercantile business there. Although it was at one time a self-contained village with a railway station, post office, school, and church, Avalon's tiny population now shares these functions with those dwelling in nearby towns.
