Wieselburg is a town in Lower Austria, Austria, located near the River Erlauf. Its name roughly translates to castle where two rivers meet, as there are two rivers that run together to create the Erlauf. Its population is approximately 4,200 (including surrounding villages). A brewery, an agricultural college and research institute (HBLFA Francisco Josephinum), a college of higher education (Fachhochschule), and one of the oldest churches north of the Alps dating from AD 976 are located in the town. Wieselburg was made a town 1000 years later, in 1976. Annually in the ending of June beginning of July an agricultural fair, Wieselburger Messe, takes place.

The Pielach Formation is a geologic formation in Lower Austria, Austria. It preserves fossils dating back to the Chattian stage (late Kiscellian to early Egerian) of the Oligocene period. The formation unconformably overlies basement rock, and is overlain by the Melk Formation.

Pöchlarn (Bavarian: Böchlarn) is a town in the district of Melk in the Austrian state of Lower Austria. The painter and writer Oskar Kokoschka was born here in 1886.

Schloss Weinzierl is a castle in Weinzierl, near Wieselburg/Erlauf in the southwestern Mostviertel region of Lower Austria, located in a park. The essential components of the existing building date to the early 18th century' on earlier foundations. The four-winged castle encloses a courtyard including arcades and corner towers in late-baroque style. The complex also includes an original early Baroque church with post-gothic elements. Originally used as medieval farm estate, Schloss Weinzierl was expanded in baroque style by Johann Carl Weber von Fürnberg in the 18th century. A prominent guest that should become very important in music history was the then unknown artist Joseph Haydn, who received his first engagement at this place. Here he also composed his first string quartets around 1755. This tradition has been continuing so far by the annual music festival in Schloss Weinzierl. At the end of the 18th century, the estate came into Imperial Habsburg possession. In 1883 the so-called "Emperor Franz Joseph Asylum Association" created a home for orphans at Schloss Weinzierl. Previously the Francisco Josephinum, a private two-year agricultural college, had been founded in Mödling in 1869. The patronage was again given by Emperor Franz Joseph. The castle is currently used for the direction and the administrative department of the Higher Federal Education and Research Institute Francisco Josephinum.

The Francisco Josephinum Secondary College and Research Institute (HBLFA) in Wieselburg is a secondary school for agriculture in Austria. Founded more than 100 years ago, it has been situated at Weinzierl Castle in Wieselburg since 1934. The school is divided into three departments: Agriculture, Agricultural Engineering, Food Technology and Biotechnology.

Erlauf is a river of Lower Austria and of Styria, Austria. Its drainage basin is 632 km2 (244 sq mi).The Erlauf springs at the foot of the mountain Gemeindealpe It is a right tributary of the Danube in Pöchlarn.
