Redding, Connecticut

The Daniel and Esther Bartlett House is at historic house and farmstead at 43 Lonetown Road in Redding, Connecticut. Built in 1796, it is a good local example of well-preserved Federal architecture, somewhat unusual for its shingle siding. The property, now owned by the town and managed by the local historical society, also includes an 18th-century barn. The property was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on April 15, 1993.

The Redding Center Historic District is a 55-acre (22 ha) located in Redding, Connecticut, encompassing its historic village center. It includes the town's current and former town halls, a church, a cemetery, private homes and barns. The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places on October 1, 1992.The district includes 46 buildings with a mix of architectural styles, including Colonial Revival, Greek Revival, and Italianate. They form the most historically significant collection of properties in the community.Fronting a central green is the First Church of Christ, a Congregational church built in 1837 in the Greek Revival style that was the first religious organization established in Redding, obtaining permission in 1729 from Fairfield church leaders to establish a separate parish. Also facing the green is Redding's old town hall, built in 1834 and still used today for some town functions like meetings. Redding's current town hall, police station, fire station, and the Read Cemetery, which has grave markers dating from 1786 to 1860, are also in the district.

Redding Center is a census-designated place (CDP) in the town of Redding, Fairfield County, Connecticut, United States, comprising the central village in the town. Connecticut Route 107 passes through the community, leading north toward Bethel and southwest toward Georgetown. The Redding Center Historic District is at the center of the CDP, around the intersections of Cross Highway, Sanfordtown Road, Lonetown Road, and Hill Road. Redding Center was first listed as a CDP prior to the 2020 census.

Stormfield was the mansion built in Redding, Connecticut for author Samuel Clemens, best known as Mark Twain, who lived there from 1908 until his death in 1910. He derived the property's name from the short story "Captain Stormfield's Visit to Heaven". The building was destroyed in a 1923 fire, with a smaller replica built at the same site the following year.

Highstead, formerly known as Highstead Arboretum, in Redding, Connecticut, United States was founded in 1982. It covers 36 acres (146,000 m2) of woodland, meadow, and wetland and ranges from 640 feet (200 m) to 758 feet (231 m) in elevation and hosts both native and cultivated plant varieties. Highstead includes the following collections: The Native tree and shrub collection, with indigenous plants from within a 100-mile (160 km) radius of the arboretum. The Mountain Laurel collection, includes three of the seven mountain laurel, or Kalmia, species. Highstead is host to a thorough collection of Kalmia latifolia, the Connecticut state flower, and a representative collection of the genus, for which it is also the International Cultivar Registration Authority. The Deciduous Azaleas collection, with 14 species of deciduous azaleas, including three native species. A Herbarium with more than 1,000 specimens.

General Israel Putnam, also known as Putnam's Escape at Horseneck, is an equestrian statue at the Putnam Memorial State Park in Redding, Connecticut, United States. The statue was designed by sculptor Anna Hyatt Huntington and dedicated in 1969 in honor of Connecticut native Israel Putnam, a military officer who served in the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War.

Putnam Memorial State Park is a history-oriented public recreation area in the town of Redding, Connecticut. The state park preserves the site that Major General Israel Putnam chose as the winter encampment for his men in the winter of 1778/1779 during the American Revolutionary War. It is Connecticut's oldest state park, created in 1887 at the instigation of Redding town residents. The park was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1970.In addition to its historic features, the park's 183 acres (74 ha) include facilities for hiking, picnicking, pond fishing, and winter sports. The park is located at the intersection of Route 107 and Route 58 and is managed by the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

The Aaron Barlow House is a historic house at the corner of Umpawaug and Station Roads in Redding, Connecticut. Built in 1730, it is a fine local example of Georgian architecture, with historic association to local figures active in the American Revolutionary War. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on May 29, 1982.

The Umpawaug District School is a one-room schoolhouse located near the junction of Umpawaug Road and Marchant in Redding, Connecticut, United States. The school was built in 1790 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places on December 1, 1988. It is the only surviving district schoolhouse in the town. The building was used as a schoolhouse until 1931. Once a year the Redding Historical Society will open the schoolhouse to the public. It is still owned by the town, but is managed by the Redding Historical Society as a museum.

Centennial Watershed State Forest is a Connecticut state forest of more than 15,000 acres with larger parcels located in the towns of Easton, Newtown, Redding, and Weston. Dozens of other properties are strung throughout much of Southwestern part of the state. In 2002, the lands were acquired from the Aquarion Water Company by the state in partnership with The Nature Conservancy. Those three entities continue to manage the property by committee. The forest was named in honor of the hundredth anniversary of the state forest system.

Redding station (signed as West Redding) is a commuter rail stop on the Danbury Branch of the Metro-North Railroad New Haven Line, located in Redding, Connecticut. The station has one two-car-long high-level side platform to the west of the single track.: 27 

The Saugatuck Reservoir is a reservoir in Fairfield County, Connecticut, United States, that straddles the border between the towns of Redding, Weston, and Easton. Its completion is marked by the creation of the Samuel P. Senior dam of the Saugatuck River in January 1942, and provides water to several of the nearby towns. The reservoir is surrounded by the Centennial Watershed State Forest and a small section of the Trout Brook Valley State Park Reserve on the southeast end of the reservoir. The Saugatuck Reservoir utilizes an uncontrolled spillway adjacent to the Samuel P. Senior dam that effectively limits the maximum water level. There is also a concrete levee positioned on the southeastern side of the reservoir that prevents water from flooding Trout Brook Valley. Bridgeport Hydraulic Company Holdings (now owned by Aquarion) flooded the Saugatuck River Valley after 1938, removing the villages of Hull and Valley Forge to create the Saugatuck Reservoir.Aquarion Water Co., owner of the reservoir and dam, allows tailrace fishing in one area at the Weston end of the reservoir, where it has constructed a handicapped-access area. However, anglers must obtain a permit from Aquarion before fishing in the Saugatuck.The Saugatuck is the largest of the eight reservoirs that make up Aquarion’s greater Bridgeport water system.
