KZ 1, formally called New Zealand, is a one-off sailing yacht built to challenge for the 1988 America's Cup. She was designed by Bruce Farr and is constructed from a carbon fibre and Kevlar/Nomex sandwich, skippered by David Barnes and crewed by a team of 40 from the Mercury Bay Boating Club in Whitianga, New Zealand. The unexpected challenge of Michael Fay and KZ 1 almost immediately after the 1987 American victory to the San Diego Yacht Club prompted syndicate head Dennis Conner to respond with an unconventional defence. Lacking time and looking to protect the planned international event in 1992, the defenders defended with one of two catamarans built for the challenge Stars & Stripes (US 1), a wing masted catamaran that Conner sailed to easily win the challenge, though most of the battle was later fought in court. KZ 1 is now on display near the New Zealand Maritime Museum in downtown Auckland.

The New Zealand Maritime Museum Hui Te Ananui A Tangaroa is a maritime museum in Auckland, New Zealand. It is located on Hobson Wharf, adjacent to the Viaduct Harbour in central Auckland. It houses exhibitions spanning New Zealand's maritime history, from the first Polynesian explorers and settlers to modern day triumphs at the America's Cup. Its Maori name is 'Te Huiteanaui-A-Tangaroa' – holder of the treasures of Tangaroa (the Sea God).

The First World War Memorial Beacon is a war memorial on Quay Street in Auckland, the largest city in New Zealand. New Zealand's first built World War I memorial, it was first unveiled in 1915, before being lost in the 1960s. It was rediscovered and restored in 1999–2000, at which time it was placed outside the New Zealand Maritime Museum. It was further restored in 2021–2022 and returned to its original, and present, location. The memorial was designated a category 1 historic place by Heritage New Zealand in 2023.

The Tepid Baths is a public indoor pool complex in Auckland, New Zealand. The baths opened in 1914 on a site that had previously been occupied by a small drydock and were very well-received by the public, with the new baths attracting 30,000 visitors in the first two months after opening. In 2010 the baths closed for a major refurbishment, re-opening in mid-2012 after a two year re-build. The main pool is 1.1m in the shallowest end, and 2.1m in the deepest end.

The 31st America's Cup was contested between the holder, Team New Zealand, and the winner of the 2003 Louis Vuitton Cup, Alinghi.

The 30th America's Cup was won by Team New Zealand, who swept the 2000 Louis Vuitton Cup winner Prada Challenge in all five races. It was the first America's Cup without an American challenger or defender.

Princes Wharf is a former commercial wharf on the Auckland waterfront, in Auckland, New Zealand, which has been redeveloped into a multi-story high-class mixed-use development and cruise ship terminal. While generally considered a success in redevelopment, as is the close by Viaduct Basin, some critics have called its architecture 'urbanely sterile', while others have remarked on the restrictions private owners have placed on public access rights. Also criticised was the fact that many of the public facilities (like art galleries or markets) that were envisaged in the original plan change from a wharf to a new use did not materialise, and in the view of some, have instead seen the wharf become dominated by uses like car parking.

PwC Tower at Commercial Bay is a mixed-use office tower and retail development in Auckland, New Zealand, completed and officially opened in June 2020.The development consists of a 41-floor office tower with leasable floors, three mechanical floors, one floor reserved for meeting suites/pods, and a SkyLobby, and a retail precinct with 18,000 m2 (190,000 sq ft) of retail space, replacing the Westfield Group Downtown Shopping Centre, which was previously located on the site.The PwC tower is the currently tallest building in New Zealand and the second tallest structure in Auckland behind the Sky Tower.

Commercial Bay Shopping Centre is a shopping centre in the Auckland CBD, Auckland, New Zealand. It is situated at 11–19 Customs Street West between Lower Albert Street and the Britomart Transport Centre. The centre was known as Downtown Shopping Centre, formerly Westfield Downtown, as a smaller shopping centre with 12,417 m2 gross lettable area In late 2012, it was sold by Westfield to Precinct Properties Holdings New Zealand Limited, formerly AMP NZ Office Limited (ANZO). The building closed on 28 May 2016 after 41 years, and by 23 November had been demolished. A high-rise and new mall building was built on the site, with the future City Rail Link tunnels going through the foundations of the building. The development is named "Commercial Bay", referring to the area's previous name in the 1900s. The first shop of the new Commercial Bay development, an H&M store, was opened in August 2018. Following multiple delays, the main shopping mall of the new Commercial Bay development was completed in June 2020.

On the morning of 20 July 2023, a mass shooting occurred at a building construction site in the central business district of Auckland. The shooter, 24-year-old Matu Tangi Matua Reid, killed two work colleagues with a shotgun, wounded seven other people, including a police officer, and then killed himself.A separate, unrelated, fatal shooting also took place in the Auckland CBD, on the same street, two weeks later on 3 August 2023.

The Auckland Ferry Terminal, also called the Downtown Ferry Terminal, is the hub of the Auckland ferry network, which connects the Auckland CBD with suburbs in North Shore, West Auckland, and South Auckland, and islands in the Hauraki Gulf. The terminal is on the Auckland waterfront, at the north end of Queen Street, across Quay Street from the Britomart Transport Centre, which is the hub for local buses and trains. The ferry terminal is composed of two main elements, a yellow Edwardian Baroque building facing Queen Street and the CBD, and newer wharves and a waiting area building (the actual ferry terminal of today) facing the Waitematā Harbour.

The ANZ Centre is an office skyscraper in Auckland, New Zealand. Located at 23 Albert Street, the tower stands at 151 metres (495 ft) in height and has 35 levels of office space, with a total of 33,187 m2 (357,220 sq ft) floor space. It was formerly known as the Coopers & Lybrand Tower and before that the Robert Jones Tower and it was the tallest building in New Zealand during the years 1991–1999, until it was surpassed by the Metropolis building. Today, it stands as the fifth tallest building in Auckland.
