Falkenberg (fort)

Skogstorp is a suburb of Falkenberg in Falkenberg Municipality, Halland County, Sweden. Until 2015 it was considered a separate locality, with 2,124 inhabitants in 2010.

Ätran is a Swedish river. The river is about 240 km long, and has its source in Gullered, Västergötland, at a height of 332 m above sea level. The river has its mouth in Falkenberg, Halland, where the river enters Kattegat. The drainage basin has an area of 3,343 km², of which most is forest. The river is well known as a good place for fishing. It is comparatively unpolluted A road used for thousands of years, Redvägen, followed the river. Along the road several battles took place during the medieval era.

Falkenbergs gymnasieskola is a gymnasium (secondary school) in Falkenberg, Sweden. It has about 2,000 students, including people in adult education (Komvux). The students choose between 16 different concentrations. The gymnasium share building the town library. The school is located in an old tannery, and was inaugurated in 1971. Major works on the school took place in the 1990s.

Falkenberg is a locality and the seat of Falkenberg Municipality, Halland County, Sweden, with 27,813 inhabitants in 2019 (out of a municipal total of about 45,000). It is located at the mouth of river Ätran. The name consists of the Swedish words for falcon (falk) and mountain (berg). Falkenberg is a popular tourist destination in the summers, and the main beach of the town is Skrea strand.

Falkenberg Old Town Hall (Swedish Falkenbergs rådhus) is a former town hall, built 1826. The building has given name to the adjacent square, Rådhustorget. The first town hall was built in 1760. It was a relatively small wooden house. The town centre was at that time located further south, around Saint Lawrence church. However, during the following centuries the centre would move north, giving the town hall a fairly central location. The building became increasingly run-down and was also too small for its purpose. It was therefore decided to build a new town hall. The building had two storeys. The lower was shared between Falkenberg's first school, Pedagogien, its head teacher's dwelling, the town's jail, fire equipment, weights and measures. The upper storey contained a session hall as well as a ballroom. The parts of the lower storey not used by the school became by time increasingly used by the police. A major refurbishment took place 1872–1874. Pedagogien was closed down 1 July, 1893 and replaced by an elementary schoolthat used the building until 1906. A minor extension was added in 1913. The ballroom was used as session room by the town's council between 1901 and 1946, whereafter it was used as an office. Upon the completion of Falkenberg Town Hall, the building was used as a police station. It has been used for administrative purposes by the municipality since 1972.

Falkenberg Town Hall is a listed modern building, built 1958-1959 and inaugurated 16 August 1960. Lennart Tham was chosen as architect after no less than three competitions, the last one in 1949. The building process was delayed due to the need to build a new fire station, as the town hall would be located where the old fire station had been situated. The building was to be Tham's last work and has been listed since 2006.The original building consisted of three sections (of which one is "the cube", the glassed section figuring prominently in the photo). It was extended with a new section in 1986.

Glommen is a locality situated in Falkenberg Municipality, Halland County, Sweden, with 761 inhabitants in 2010.It came to be formed in the later part of the 19th century, as a fishing port was established. The Glumsten, a glacial erratic is mentioned as early as in the 11th century. It was important for navigation in the area until a lighthouse, Morups Tånge, was built in the 1840s. The stone has an engraved message of the sea level in September 1816th. The text was written by Sven Petter Bexell, vicar of Grimeton and Rolfstorp, and reads as follows: "Wattenytans medelhöjd afvägd år 1816 i September av S.P. Bexell. Rätt i väster härifrån var vattnet 2 alnar 11 decimal tum 4 2/3 linier under detta märke." The largest company is Falkenberg Seafood with about 20 employees and a turnover of about 150 million SEK. The village is also home to two restaurants as well as two minkfarms. The football club, Glommens IF, has as best played in the fifth division.

Långås is a locality situated in Falkenberg Municipality, Halland County, Sweden, with 534 inhabitants in 2010. The footballer Patric Andersson is from the village.

The Falkenberg Bridge (Swedish Tullbron, literally "The Toll Bridge") is a stone arch bridge in Falkenberg, Sweden, built between 1756 and 1761. The bridge spans the Ätran river and is a listed building since 1984. It underwent major repair and restoration works in 1927 and 1994. The bridge is still in use and is used by an average of 3,800 vehicles a day. It was a toll bridge until 1914. The ruin of the fort Falkenberg is located close to the bridge, at the southern strand. The bridge has given its name to the nearby Tullbroskolan high school.

The Saint Lawrence Church (Sankt Laurentii kyrka) is located at Falkenberg in Halland County, Sweden. The medieval era church is situated across from Laurentii Park in the centre of old town Falkenberg.

Törngrens krukmakeri is a pottery in Falkenberg, Sweden, in a backyard of Krukmakaregatan, close to the river Ätran. It was founded in 1789 and claims to be one of the oldest, still manufacturing, potteries in Europe. The pottery is still in the ownership of the same family, now in its seventh generation. Since 2014 there is no continuous production, as the last potter, Bengt Törngren, retiredA little display in the old shop shows some exhibits from the history of the company, free of charge.

Falkenberg Municipality (Falkenbergs kommun) is a municipality in Halland County on the Swedish west coast. The town Falkenberg is the municipal seat. The municipality was created in 1971 when the City of Falkenberg was amalgamated with six rural municipalities (themselves formed by the 1952 local government reform) and part of a seventh. There are 24 original entities within the area. Today, Falkenberg holds a strong position in the food and beverage industry with companies such as Arla Foods, Carlsberg and SIA Glass having plants in the city. In the inland Gekås, a major department store, draws visitors from all over the country. Falkenberg is also a tourist city, mainly for its many beaches.
